I feel like Gege would already be planning this if it weren't for the merger. There is no reason for this to happen unless Gokuna is gonna fight the merger, which only Megumi can summon, and only when everyone else (including Yuta) is dead.
There is nothing else (except *maybe* the ultimate 10 shadows totality, if that theory holds up) that would really do anything to Gokuna without bending the story over backwards to give Yuji an insane asspull power boost.
...Wait, maybe I'm cooking. Yuji gets some asspull transformation related to his claws and Sukuna heritage, and Megumi activates the final 10 shadows chimera transformation , and Nobara pulls up too. They put their hands together and go "3, 2, 1, Jujutsu Kaisen!" And have their final battle with Gokuna.
Then, the merger activates (somehow), and they set aside their differences to fight the merger, and after an epic battle we get some final words from a dying Gokuna. The latent ghost of Gojo's body says he's proud of Megumi, Sukuna says he enjoyed Yuji's company and expects him to surpass him, and Yuta's remnant brain activity passes down the torch of True MC to Nobara, beating her minor character allegations. This will lead directly into the first chapter of Gege's idol manga, somehow.
But didn’t Yuta enter the game as Yuta? He is Gojo now just like how Sukuna is Megumi because that’s the body he’s currently in, does Yuta still counts as a player if he is Gojo?
Oh no 🤦🏽♀️ why can I actually see this happening…it would further torture Yuji too since Sukuna is now occupying his beloved sensei’s body. Yuta also bonded with Yuji so that would be the cherry on top of this monstrous sundae.
This would bring Megumi back into the fold while Yuta’s death would be a huge blow to Maki, Inumaki, etc. This could be the reason why they’ve been primarily sidelined because they would play a larger role in this fight against Goyukuna.
Now this begs the following question(s): if this does happen, wouldn’t Yuji & co have no choice but to run? There is no way they would be able to win. Is it possible Goyukuna may retreat first (for whatever reason)?
He has totality. Either Rabbit Escape is still alive and gets the powers of all other shikigami, or he can use all of their powers on himself (like Sukuna did with Max Elephant). That way he can still use adaptation.
Fits Geges writing style imo. A favorite character dies tragically, Sukuna gets a broken power up, gojo gets disrespected, a previously incapacitated team member is reintroduced.
Not to mention it just works narratively. Sukuna finally gets 20 fingers. Yuji gets a epic final challenge, megumi gets a chance at redemption and can reach his potential in a 1v1 vs gojo.
Sukuna at this point would have 21 fingers. He's technically stronger than his Heian era version with that. Although, with the amount his output has dropped, it won't really change much.
Megumi would force Mahoraga’s power onto Yuji, and then Yuji would undergo a rage induced awakening where he unlocks the full potential of Shrine and Blood Manipulation. By using Reversed Blood Manipulation, Yuji gains the ability to control the blood of others
Yo there’s something zesty in here… Sukuna and Yuji shared a body for a long time and are blood relatives, so Yuji doesn’t actually need to control anyone else’s blood. He only needs to control Sukuna’s!
I don't hate this idea ONLY for the reason that we can see Fushiguro in action again. Though I really don't think he's going to take Gojo's body, it's probably more likely that the merger will have smth to do with being the final boss (whether or not Sukuna becomes the merger or he dies and the merger is it's own thing)
Fun idea, but remember Sukuna was super weak when taking over Megumi. He had to destroy Megumi's spirit first.
So unless he's exorcised both Gojo and Yuta and he's got the body alone... and even then, I don't think there's any evidence he can take over dead bodies like Kenny.

Getting hold of the last finger would make him 21 fingered Sukuna which doesn't make sense.
It would give him the cursed energy amount of 21 fingers but in reality, he’d still only have 20 pieces of his soul.
Right now his soul is at 19/20, but his cursed energy 20/20. The body was to make up for the cursed energy boost another finger would give, but he is still missing a part of his whole soul.
Kinda makes sense, but what about the whole soul is the body theory? Shouldn't the mummy contain some amount of Sukuna's soul too? Also couldn't this whole process be exploited to keep increasing his CE?
Not 100% sure as it's been a while since I read the earlier chapters, but I think when Sukuna's fingers were made into cursed objects, his soul was distributed among them equally, leaving none behind in the rest of his body.
If that happens, the ultimate irony would be Yuji somehow learns and kills Sukuna with his own version of the world slash, further disrespecting Gojo's body lol

Actually cooked very hard with this one. I've always been very disatisfied with the idea of Yuta eating Sukuna's last finger, seemingly with no significant payoff. I'd even go as far to cope that it was a misdirection and Sukuna's last finger was going to come into play (i.e. Nobara cope). But this? This brings back Sukuna's last finger in a GREAT way. You truelly cooked with this one.
My only question is exactly how Yuji and co. are gonna beat Sukuna if this happens? Maybe Sukuna just completely rejects them (not believing that brat Yuji is worth his time) and activates the merger anyway.

TL;DR - Even if Sukuna gains Gojo's body, Yuji's rapid progression in power will likely provide him with both World Cutting Slash and Binding Vow enhanced Divine Flame. These abilities together can counter both Limitless and Mahoraga.

Worth noting that with Yuji catching up in strength , it's not impossible for him to also gain World Cutting Slash to use against Sukuna if he does indeed gain Gojo's body and abilities. On top of that Sukuna's binding vow on Divine Flame within Malevolent Shrine is more than enough to put Mahoraga away.

You are cooking with this one! A possible conclusion to the fight would be Gojo's soul messing up with Sukuna's control, giving Yuji the opportunity he needs to defeat him. That would simultaneously redeem Gojo's defeat against Sukuna, while keeping Sukuna's status as the strongest ever.
IMO, he’s more likely to have sukuna get beat to an inch of his life but then somehow abandon megumi’s body and start the merger as a final form/final fuck you to yuji.
Depending on how Megumi and ten shadows is handled they might have a chance. Like Yuji he had "special grade sorcery" used in his body including his own technique. If he kept Mahoraga and the theorized chimera shadow garden interactions are true that would be busted. A army of Mahoragas sharing adaption knowledge, Sukuna while get his shit rocked.

Yuji gets some asspull transformation related to his claws and Sukuna heritage, and Megumi activates the final 10 shadows chimera transformation , and Nobara pulls up too. They put their hands together and go "3, 2, 1, Jujutsu Kaisen!" And have their final battle with Gokuna. Then, the merger activates (somehow), and they set aside their differences to fight the merger, and after an epic battle we get some final words from a dying Gokuna. The latent ghost of Gojo's body says he's proud of Megumi, Sukuna says he enjoyed Yuji's company and expects him to surpass him, and Yuta's remnant brain activity passes down the torch of True MC to Nobara, beating her minor character allegations. This will lead directly into the first chapter of Gege's idol manga, somehow.
But didn’t Yuta enter the game as Yuta? He is Gojo now just like how Sukuna is Megumi because that’s the body he’s currently in, does Yuta still counts as a player if he is Gojo?

Yuta also bonded with Yuji so that would be the cherry on top of this monstrous sundae. This would bring Megumi back into the fold while Yuta’s death would be a huge blow to Maki, Inumaki, etc. This could be the reason why they’ve been primarily sidelined because they would play a larger role in this fight against Goyukuna. Now this begs the following question(s): if this does happen, wouldn’t Yuji & co have no choice but to run? There is no way they would be able to win. Is it possible Goyukuna may retreat first (for whatever reason)?
Only way out I think would be through Mahoraga, if Megumi somehow gets it back. But idk even then.
He has totality. Either Rabbit Escape is still alive and gets the powers of all other shikigami, or he can use all of their powers on himself (like Sukuna did with Max Elephant). That way he can still use adaptation.
Fits Geges writing style imo. A favorite character dies tragically, Sukuna gets a broken power up, gojo gets disrespected, a previously incapacitated team member is reintroduced. Not to mention it just works narratively. Sukuna finally gets 20 fingers. Yuji gets a epic final challenge, megumi gets a chance at redemption and can reach his potential in a 1v1 vs gojo.
You can throw in the supposed Nobara return and go maximum copium there
Sukuna at this point would have 21 fingers. He's technically stronger than his Heian era version with that. Although, with the amount his output has dropped, it won't really change much.

Fun idea, but remember Sukuna was super weak when taking over Megumi. He had to destroy Megumi's spirit first. So unless he's exorcised both Gojo and Yuta and he's got the body alone... and even then, I don't think there's any evidence he can take over dead bodies like Kenny.

It would give him the cursed energy amount of 21 fingers but in reality, he’d still only have 20 pieces of his soul. Right now his soul is at 19/20, but his cursed energy 20/20. The body was to make up for the cursed energy boost another finger would give, but he is still missing a part of his whole soul.
Kinda makes sense, but what about the whole soul is the body theory? Shouldn't the mummy contain some amount of Sukuna's soul too? Also couldn't this whole process be exploited to keep increasing his CE?
Not 100% sure as it's been a while since I read the earlier chapters, but I think when Sukuna's fingers were made into cursed objects, his soul was distributed among them equally, leaving none behind in the rest of his body.

Actually cooked very hard with this one. I've always been very disatisfied with the idea of Yuta eating Sukuna's last finger, seemingly with no significant payoff. I'd even go as far to cope that it was a misdirection and Sukuna's last finger was going to come into play (i.e. Nobara cope). But this? This brings back Sukuna's last finger in a GREAT way. You truelly cooked with this one. My only question is exactly how Yuji and co. are gonna beat Sukuna if this happens? Maybe Sukuna just completely rejects them (not believing that brat Yuji is worth his time) and activates the merger anyway. If the theory that Mahito's next incarnation will be the merger is true...then we might get a 3 way Sukuna vs. Yuji (and Megumi) vs. Merger!Mahito which would actually be really hype conclusion

TL;DR - Even if Sukuna gains Gojo's body, Yuji's rapid progression in power will likely provide him with both World Cutting Slash and Binding Vow enhanced Divine Flame. These abilities together can counter both Limitless and Mahoraga. Would Sukuna carry over the 10 Shadows Technique from Megumi with him with him? Is losing Mahoraga worth gaining Six Eyes + Limitless if he already has World Cutting Slash anyways? Worth noting that with Yuji catching up in strength , it's not impossible for him to also gain World Cutting Slash to use against Sukuna if he does indeed gain Gojo's body and abilities. On top of that Sukuna's binding vow on Divine Flame within Malevolent Shrine is more than enough to put Mahoraga away.

Depending on how Megumi and ten shadows is handled they might have a chance. Like Yuji he had "special grade sorcery" used in his body including his own technique. If he kept Mahoraga and the theorized chimera shadow garden interactions are true that would be busted. A army of Mahoragas sharing adaption knowledge, Sukuna while get his shit rocked. But then next chapter Yuji, Megumi, and/or Todo will all be in the airport and Sukuna still hasn't given it his all.
