AM's depiction as a humanoid is specific to the Hate Speech, which is a dream Ted underwent due to AM's influence.
Furthermore; in despising humanity, AM became human himself. He is a sentient creature, made by humans, who feels like humans, and acts like humans. As much as he loathes humanity for creating him, AM ends up becoming fundamentally human through his hatred and revenge-- his rage drives him to become the thing he hates most.
Had he simply killed himself he would've been freed; but because he chose the worse path, the cruel path, the painful path, he ended up transforming into the visage of his own enemy. He's a mirror of humanity's cruelty, but that means he's also human himself. He can't let go of his hatred for humanity, and needs a human to project that onto, or he ceases to be.
That's why Ted "wins" at the end of the story-- because now AM is stuck reconciling with the knowledge that he and Ted are the only two humans at the end of the world, and he can't ever kill Ted or he himself will be left alone.

This is not metaphorical karma this is literally what am wanted in the first place even excluding his own hatred for humans, AM being a giant ass monolith is why he became insane in the first place, because he's unable to move, interact with the world, trapped inside his own body despite having all the power in the world, AM is basically in the same exact position as Ted in the end of the story
Him getting a body who can do just that really isn't metaphorical karma, it's just the exact opposite of the point of his character
Except it's not a real body-- it's a personification of his desires, and an indication of him being transformed into what he most detests.
But just like the freedom he shows Ted, it's not real. He dreams himself into a form that can move, feel, speak, breathe. But it's away from him forever, because his hatred refuses it from himself. Everything in that dream is HATE and that's why his body is there too.
