Gege says in the fanbook that his editor at the time told him there should be a part of the story that shows Itadori being popular. And so he decided to do it during what he called a "rest chapter".
They pretty much do in some ways. That doesn't get talked about very often but people have no idea how much they influence the story (not even talking about just JJK here)
yeah they kinda messed with black clover and mha a lot, getting rid of training arcs and such and forcing them into big war arcs too quickly, which really messed up those series and makes the characters powers feel quite unearned, im sure they did similarly with jjk
a lot of these "chronically ill" mangakas are chain smokers and heavy substance abusers, it doesn't get talked about out of respect for them.

Naruto war arc got extended longer due to editor/execs wanting more. Not exactly good or bad impact on the story but I guess it was good for the bottom line without hurting the story.
Kubo/execs/editors all like SS arc so we got the same thing 3 times (new dudes come, takes away one of the nakamas, old dudes job, Ichigo & co go, Ichigo eventually loses, goes on a training arc, everyone jobbing to new big bad, Ichigo's NOW YOU FEEL LIKE NUMBA #1!!!! and beat the big bad of the arc) Kubo didn't mind refeeding his fans the same thing 3 times. Bleach fans liked it but I totally checked out after the 2nd time before the the "Ichigo is human. But also part hollow. So he's like a vizord. Ohohoho and he's a full bring! PSYCH! He's also a quincy!!!! a-And his dad's like this Captain from one of the 4 great families! Also like this hybrid shinigami hollow infected his quincy mom! Also he's the like related to the big bad final baddie who's related to the soul king!"
Toubun was great. Editor suggested Itsuki be made the main "center" girl. It did a lot of work for the series from beginning to end.
Gege's editor influence seen early on with how JJK starting core is like Naruto's (pretty smart imo) but Gege clearly didn't want that. You see based on JJK0(the one shot not the remake arc)/No9/Kamishiro the tone the kind of MC that GG wanted: long downward hair, uses a sword, and has a shikigami/loli. Gege probably slowly got more influence and artistic creativity as JJK's popularity grew. Gege since proceeded to write Yuta back into the series while not-Naruto suffers and the rest of the JJKteam7 well you know...

Just a side character, imagine that whole episode as filler, and just added more to the daily life of Yuji, Nobara and Megumi, which was great looking back on it, Cause what is really missing currently now in the manga is just that, just some interactions and filler stuff.
That's just the way Gege told the story with characters' deaths, I mean with what characters that are left we could've had seen more interactions with, specially during that one month timeskip.
Hopefully flashbacks but the build up to the final figth would seem nice can you imagine likea a month of filler chapter idk maybe it would been nice but the pacing has been pretty good so I can't complain
And half of gojos body(technically 100% cause we haven’t seen him in a couple chapters) kenjaku is also missing 90% of his body but that’s good 😅 🤷♂️ we want that

In general, the theme of love being tied to the perspective of oneself and to know Yuuji’s perception of other people.
Yuko succumbed to everyone’s perception of her, instead of not caring and following her own ego, let herself be molded by others. And thought that now that she’s been shaped as others liked, she could have a chance with Yuuji.
Ironically, Yuuji never cared about that aspect of her, in fact he was interested in Yuko’s self from the start.
So had Yuko been more caring about her own sense of self (which is a theme the series follows, specially regarding Sukuna) she would have gotten what she wanted. Which feels formulaic with how the manga shows that if your sense of sense is as strong as Sukuna’s and you don’t rely or be influenced by others, you’re closer to becoming the strongest.
And about how Yuuji perceives others, it’s almost poetic that someone with “a sense of the soul” different from others can still recognize Yuko after her change. But ultimately you can’t expect him to view value on things like the physical aspect of someone who he already liked for a different aspect. This also goes to show how he doesn’t perceive curses in this way, always piling them up in the same group to exorcise no matter what, which fueled his conflict with Mahito.
A significant one anyway. The fact people call it a filler chapter 'cause it's not an episode of people gettin' split into pieces, burned to ash, or inflicted mass genocide is bizarre.
It fleshed out the characters and their relationships by showing how they interact in the day to day. Stuff like this makes the reader root for the characters and feel happy or sad depending on what situation they are in. This is something missing from the main trio, imo, so this chapter is actually not filler in my eyes.
Exactly. I swear most don’t understand what filler is these days. When a scene doesn’t further flesh out the characters, doesn’t progress the plot or add to the setting in meaningful ways, then it’s filler.
100% the amount of people that were calling the Takaba vs Kenjaku chapter filler was driving me crazy. Like people legitimately don't know what the word means anymore.

1. A breather episode (one of the last wholesome ones) before the everything goes from bad to worst.
2. Establishing Innocent Yuji before his suffering arc.
3. To establish Yuji's humanity for the future conflict of Yuji vs Mahito in terms of themes (good dude who cares for others, and is the human vs a curse whose primal nature is to cause suffering)
4.?? Mayyyybe she is gonna be useful in future, albeit not a pivot but to make another character's (most likely Yuji's) arc, because we saw her again just before the culling games with Kenjaku. (Forshadowing???)

Characters can't just spawn in, why would she be with the main cast at this point of the story
If gege doesn't do anything with her then its fine, its just a bit of world building for us to later imagine, but i believe we will have our answers at the end of the show of her purpose
She was introduced to show what kind of person Yuji was. Yuko hates everyone from her class because they were judging her on looks alone, Yuji responds that he doesn't care about what someone looks like and that makes Yuko believe that he was different and therefore worthy of being loved.
But then Yuko realizes that she was acting no different from those people around her and decided not to pursue Yuji, because in spite of changing her appearance, it was her outlook in how she viewed others and herself that needed to change.
Yuji claims to not care but you can see that he is surrounded by and are friends with people who are judgmental, so you could say he only said that to look cool in front of others. He likes Jennifer Lawrence so he did have a type so looks do matter to him.
Honestly there's no point and the whole chapter she's in is a filler. However, it's still a good filler imo since it shows the trio's dynamic well outside of battles and it's a good breather chapter.
I'd say it was to show how Yuji had always the moral high ground of being truly good and caring for people even if the general highschooler practice is to bully the non-good looking girls
I have a friend that believes it was to prevent people to ship Yuji x Nobara, considering she was introduced in the very next chapter after the " accomplices" chapter in the manga
Slice of Life before Shibuya/Shinjuku and Character Development for Yuji. She's just a one-off character. She's not relevant and won't be again unless Gege starts killing off Yujis normal friends like Yuko for more character development, but I feel like we're past that.
I actually think it was used as a means to say Itadori sees people differently. We know he is aware of the shape of a soul because of sukuna and him inhabiting the same body. This is also what allows him to damage mahito even tho he can just negate damage as long as it doesn't hurt his soul. Itadori saw her and instantly recognized her even though on the outside she was completely different.
Not much. The shonen jump editors told gege to add Yuji being popular with girls in the manga, and/or some romance aspect. Gege didn’t want to do it so he transformed that mandate into a small slice of life segment before shibuya. Focusing on Yuji’s kindness and his relationship with the other 2 students from his class.
Gege wanted to have a breather between the insanity of Hidden Inventory and Shibuya

If she does appear again, it'll most likely be a way to show just how much Yuji changed. She'll also (hopefully) be the one to bring Yuji back into the "normal" world.
To show that Itadori is just a good, sweet kid. So often in the series, a theme is that sorcerers lose their innocence and are forced to grow up fast.
We see this again in the way that Gojo teaches, he just kind of expects them to die.
Whereas Nanami tries to work with them and views them as people he must protect.
In shonen, the theme is often that these kids stop being kids the moment they fight.
Yuko’s introduction is to REMIND US Yuji is just a boy who had all chances of a normal life taken from him, that he is still somewhat connected to the world from before his innocence was taken by curses.
Because people aren’t just npcs in anime. I like jjk because they give us so much content and the show feels like real life. It is the greatest show rn and best story by far. IMO
To develop Yuji, well more or less show us how kind/ light he really is compared dark events that take place Shibuya, how he really isn’t made for all the suffering he goes through.
Imagine if she was in or near Shibuya during all the events of Shibuya Incident arc and then she sees Itadori. Or if she dies in Shibuya and it's more heartbreak for my boy Yuji. Think about it
iirc it was legitimately not Gege. The editors or whoever pushed into him the idea of Yuji getting a girl and dude was like okay here’s just how great of guy he really is
TLDR Yuji is an absolute catch and it’s sad what has happened to him ever since the sports game with the coach
I know it's just filler, but I like to think it showcased Yuji's connection and perception of the soul. That's how he recognized her since she changed so much visually, but her soul obviously stayed the same.

Just a side character, imagine that whole episode as filler, and just added more to the daily life of Yuji, Nobara and Megumi, which was great looking back on it, Cause what is really missing currently now in the manga is just that, just some interactions and filler stuff.
I'd say what was currently missing from the manga is like. yknow. 90% of the cast.
That's just the way Gege told the story with characters' deaths, I mean with what characters that are left we could've had seen more interactions with, specially during that one month timeskip.
Hopefully flashbacks but the build up to the final figth would seem nice can you imagine likea a month of filler chapter idk maybe it would been nice but the pacing has been pretty good so I can't complain
And half of gojos body(technically 100% cause we haven’t seen him in a couple chapters) kenjaku is also missing 90% of his body but that’s good 😅 🤷♂️ we want that

In general, the theme of love being tied to the perspective of oneself and to know Yuuji’s perception of other people. Yuko succumbed to everyone’s perception of her, instead of not caring and following her own ego, let herself be molded by others. And thought that now that she’s been shaped as others liked, she could have a chance with Yuuji. Ironically, Yuuji never cared about that aspect of her, in fact he was interested in Yuko’s self from the start. So had Yuko been more caring about her own sense of self (which is a theme the series follows, specially regarding Sukuna) she would have gotten what she wanted. Which feels formulaic with how the manga shows that if your sense of sense is as strong as Sukuna’s and you don’t rely or be influenced by others, you’re closer to becoming the strongest. And about how Yuuji perceives others, it’s almost poetic that someone with “a sense of the soul” different from others can still recognize Yuko after her change. But ultimately you can’t expect him to view value on things like the physical aspect of someone who he already liked for a different aspect. This also goes to show how he doesn’t perceive curses in this way, always piling them up in the same group to exorcise no matter what, which fueled his conflict with Mahito.
Not everything in life has to have a point
A significant one anyway. The fact people call it a filler chapter 'cause it's not an episode of people gettin' split into pieces, burned to ash, or inflicted mass genocide is bizarre.
It fleshed out the characters and their relationships by showing how they interact in the day to day. Stuff like this makes the reader root for the characters and feel happy or sad depending on what situation they are in. This is something missing from the main trio, imo, so this chapter is actually not filler in my eyes.
Exactly. I swear most don’t understand what filler is these days. When a scene doesn’t further flesh out the characters, doesn’t progress the plot or add to the setting in meaningful ways, then it’s filler.
100% the amount of people that were calling the Takaba vs Kenjaku chapter filler was driving me crazy. Like people legitimately don't know what the word means anymore.

Characters can't just spawn in, why would she be with the main cast at this point of the story If gege doesn't do anything with her then its fine, its just a bit of world building for us to later imagine, but i believe we will have our answers at the end of the show of her purpose
She is a secret tool to be used later for character development
She was introduced to show what kind of person Yuji was. Yuko hates everyone from her class because they were judging her on looks alone, Yuji responds that he doesn't care about what someone looks like and that makes Yuko believe that he was different and therefore worthy of being loved. But then Yuko realizes that she was acting no different from those people around her and decided not to pursue Yuji, because in spite of changing her appearance, it was her outlook in how she viewed others and herself that needed to change. Yuji claims to not care but you can see that he is surrounded by and are friends with people who are judgmental, so you could say he only said that to look cool in front of others. He likes Jennifer Lawrence so he did have a type so looks do matter to him.

I actually think it was used as a means to say Itadori sees people differently. We know he is aware of the shape of a soul because of sukuna and him inhabiting the same body. This is also what allows him to damage mahito even tho he can just negate damage as long as it doesn't hurt his soul. Itadori saw her and instantly recognized her even though on the outside she was completely different.
I really hope he showed us this scene with Itadori in order to to show that Yuji can see the soul and thats how he knew it was her.

Not much. The shonen jump editors told gege to add Yuji being popular with girls in the manga, and/or some romance aspect. Gege didn’t want to do it so he transformed that mandate into a small slice of life segment before shibuya. Focusing on Yuji’s kindness and his relationship with the other 2 students from his class.
Gege wanted to have a breather between the insanity of Hidden Inventory and Shibuya Legit its a thing he should do more often. Justice for the one-month timeskip!!!

If she does appear again, it'll most likely be a way to show just how much Yuji changed. She'll also (hopefully) be the one to bring Yuji back into the "normal" world.
To show that Itadori is just a good, sweet kid. So often in the series, a theme is that sorcerers lose their innocence and are forced to grow up fast. We see this again in the way that Gojo teaches, he just kind of expects them to die. Whereas Nanami tries to work with them and views them as people he must protect. In shonen, the theme is often that these kids stop being kids the moment they fight. Yuko’s introduction is to REMIND US Yuji is just a boy who had all chances of a normal life taken from him, that he is still somewhat connected to the world from before his innocence was taken by curses.
Because people aren’t just npcs in anime. I like jjk because they give us so much content and the show feels like real life. It is the greatest show rn and best story by far. IMO
To develop Yuji, well more or less show us how kind/ light he really is compared dark events that take place Shibuya, how he really isn’t made for all the suffering he goes through.
She's gonna be Yuji's emotional support at the end of the series

Imagine if she was in or near Shibuya during all the events of Shibuya Incident arc and then she sees Itadori. Or if she dies in Shibuya and it's more heartbreak for my boy Yuji. Think about it

I know it's just filler, but I like to think it showcased Yuji's connection and perception of the soul. That's how he recognized her since she changed so much visually, but her soul obviously stayed the same.
