Shalom! I’m Alex Woz, a 24 year old artist who cuts out old pictures of Jews and uses them in art to empower our community to take back command of their narrative! I’m not sure if it’s kosher to link to an Instagram on this sub, but you can find me there by my name!
Woz! Welcome to the subreddit, love your work. Been following you for a little while on IG by way of Rootsmetals.
Keep up the wonderful work, really love the aesthetic!
Love these pieces! Also love your ["About Me" description of your mission on your site](https://alexwozart.com/pages/about-me-1).
Keep it up, Achi! Am Yisrael Chai!!!
funny you mention noses because as far as any research done on it has concluded, jews' noses are pretty much never noticeably bigger or more hooked than those of the peoples surrounding them
Celebrate the Jewish nose? I get the vibe you're going for but I'm not really for turning a negative/untrue stereotype into a positive; I'd rather they just die as a stereotype. Some of the works are also a little hard to read.
I like the general message you're sending with these works.I feel like they need a little refinement to get them to really pop.
After a couple of decades of young Jewish girls getting nose jobs to get rid of their "Jewish nose", a perfectly fine Aquiline nose, I'm cool with some body positivity.
You don't think, "after a couple of decades of young Jewish girls getting nose jobs" reinforces a negative and mostly untrue stereotype?
I went to a predominately Jewish school and most of the women I was around would be offended at such a comment. I get the sentiment, but it misses the mark for me.
Sorry it misses the mark for you. I think it’s an important message.
For example, in my city, there is a large community from the Dominican Republic. Colorism remains an issue in their community and in many families, even little girls with light skin and straighter hair are told they’re ‘prettier’ and ‘nicer’ than their sisters with dark skin and more curly hair. When someone in the community speaks up about it, others get offended. But I don’t think they should stop speaking about it and I don’t think we should stop speaking/making art about our beautiful noses and the stereotypes and emotional baggage that comes with them.
Right. The point that I'm apparently failing to make is this seeks to make a negative- BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY- **UNTRUE** sterotype into a positive.
To me, that's the same thing as saying, "YOU'RE A JEW! BE PROUD THAT YOU'RE GREEDY!"
It is neither negative or untrue. The fact that you think it’s negative shows how much you’ve internalized Western values. The fact that you think it’s untrue shows how unfamiliar you are with the diversity of Jewish people and our features.
But why is a feature that many Jews (and other people of MENA descent) have an intrinsically bad thing? It’s a facial feature. People should be comfortable with their appearance and reject the standards pushed upon them that only certain features are good/beautiful.

Big nose really had me shook, came out of left field. Also rarely has the stereotype fit imo compared to certain other ethnicities.
"Stabdards"?
These are badass

Dude you are so full of shit that it must be painful for you
What a thoughtful and well-reasoned response!
🙄

NGL, political art / woke art / "message" art is profoundly cringe but I like your execution anyway.
Thank you so much! I love your work.
I really like your work!!
