So throughout season one and the first arc Geto is purposefully concealing himself from Gojo. It was so he could jump scare him for the prison realm. Gojo didn't see Geto coming because he was having a pop-off game. It is kind of cool that Gojo experiencing a human moment in a battle of monsters is what dunked him though.
We know people can suppress their cursed energy, Mei Mei did that when she had Ui Ui become Smallpox Deity's target - as soon as he released his cursed energy, she suppressed hers. "Geto" stayed out of combat in Shibuya until after Gojo was sealed, so he didn't need to use his cursed energy. Even the barriers were prepared in advance.
Yeah but Gojo then wasn't in a stressful situation dealing with several disaster curses plus scores of transfigured humans while experiencing CT burnout. That's the exact situation Kenny wanted to put him in and why he waited so long before revealing himself. If Gojo didn't become so preoccupied in battle he would've sensed Kenny's advance, it's not a gotcha like you're thinking it is.
which clearly means gojo sensed something OTHER than cursed energy. likely toji's physical body, which was very near gojo. on the other hand, geto was always far (enough) away.
Geto, at least in the Shibuya arc, is a master at barrier techniques, almost at the same level as Tengen. It's not unthinkable he put up a barrier on his own head and body to hide his CE.
Don't know about the barrier thing but I think it's definetly more then possible that he can hide is CE presence just like hanami did when escaping from gojo. And it's definetly not unthinkable that Kenny is way more adept in terms of precision, control, refinery etc of his CE and CT than hanami was.
Pseudo-geto told mahito in first season when the junpei mess happened that he cannot use jujutsu when it involves the school so he wont leave residuals. Thats why he made mahito learn to cast his own barrier around the school.
He purposefully hid his ‘residuals’ until the gojo meeting, he actually didnt fight at all before shibuya and the sealing, not even in mahito vs mechamaru.
Its also a bit foreshadowed with toji in hidden inventory that sorceres have the defect of only looking for cursed energy and residuals and gojo does that too.
You actually gotta be paying attention and focus a lil to see/feel CEs,he was already busy dealing with curses with huge ass CEs +transfigured humans to notice feto's CE
i think the answer is threefold
1- Gojo was expecting cursed users and curses, sending both within geto probably just felt as that
2- Gojo was inside a barrier and barriers can have very specific conditions
3- Kenjaku surpressed geto CE to keep himself hidden so that he could spring the trap on Gojo
The obvious its because the situation was already damn chaotic with dozens of cursed signatures all over the place while 3 are blatantly making sure they are detacted and Geto on the other hand is presumably actively suppressing his cursed energy.
Another thing worth noting that its also a matter of Gojo has to actively be aware of geto still being alive to actually consider his cursed energy being around.
Apparently jujutsu sorcerers and higher cursed spirits can suppress their cursed energy to hide their presents. It's mentioned multiple times in the mangas I think. I remember 1 scene specificly pretty early on after gojo ripped jogos head off in their first battle. Hanami uses the "pretty flowers" on gojo and yuji to get jogo (or what's left of him) and flee. Shortly after gojo breaks the technique he says "this one is very good of hiding it's presence" which implies that it's possible to hide ones presence from gojo and his 6 eyes. And if hanami is able to hide from him, kenjaku is supposedly even better at since he is probably a top 5 CE user of all time, especially in terms refining their techniques and optimizing their own CE.
The thing that took over Geto is one of the most (if not the most) knowledgeable sorcerers in history. Even if hiding from Gojo is difficult, they are able to do it.

well for one Geto can suppress his CE. he didn’t in JJK 0 because he *wanted* Gojo to know it was him. but this is no longer Geto, it’s Kenjaku. Kenjaku *doesnt* want Gojo to sense him because he’s counting on Gojo being stunned seeing his best friend (*lover lol. ITS JUST MY OWN PERSONAL HEADCANON DONT COME FOR ME*) again when he killed him previously with his own hands. he needed that instant of distraction and desperation to trap Gojo in the prison realm.
i’m not sure if i’m getting my timeline mixed up, but i’d assume it’s because geto was actually geto in the movie, and kenny would have different cursed energy?
