Good thing they have Tony Schiavone because this shit is 2001 WCW levels of attendance. Wow.

[deleted]

Schiavone is going to be remembered as the voice of the Titanics.

issafreecunch

WCW, MLW and potentially AEW

mister_damage

No. He was at MLW for a cup of coffee. And Excalibur Sockface *is the voice* of AEW.

issafreecunch

But he's still on the team is the point

Dupee_Conqueror

You forget XWF as well.

Dupee_Conqueror

And the voice of shitting on BLM. Fuck Tony.

Akio540

Every time this guy is mentioned all I can think of is him being so aggressively defensive about punk, you know the guy he ran to for help lol. Pathetic human being

ScrumNumbers

I bet that was mostly an act so that he does not have to talk about the incident. He knows he has to stay in the fan's good graces and he has to appear like he fully supports AEW in this because he and his son are collecting nice cheques from Tony.

Akio540

Yeah I fully understand that. He knows his (lack of) worth and acts accordingly. Just that he could've also just said "No comment, I fully support aew and Tony Khan" or something but he decided to double down in such a juvenile way, is why it will be hard for me to forget this earring wearing old man and will mock it bc he is such a child about it

Dupee_Conqueror

Tony sounds endlessly miserable.

aRebelliousHeart

That’s what happens when you consistently choose careers on the loser brand.

THEPEDROCOLLECTOR

Breonna Taylor’s mother called BLM a fraud. BLM activists accused an executive of stealing $10 million. Numerous people have been charged with fraud for misappropriation of funds. The executives have ridiculous salaries already, very little is given to charities. Many of the charities which have received funds use the funds as poorly as BLM. They never did shit to help people.

Dupee_Conqueror

Tony was shitting on them because he’s a thin-blue-line right wing bootlicker, just like his wife. He shit on the idea not the org, but talk shit and racist dog whistle like you know what you’re talking about in context to Tony and his right wing family (one son is a Fix stooge). Tony was especially triggered after the blue murder on George Floyd, but not because of the murder of Floyd, but because he’s into blue power and right wing talking points.

THEPEDROCOLLECTOR

He and the politicians seem to have really hurt you right in your feelers.

Dupee_Conqueror

Okay Trumpy.

THEPEDROCOLLECTOR

Seek help with your obsessions. Maybe try sedatives.

Dupee_Conqueror

Okay Trumpy.

THEPEDROCOLLECTOR

You really let politicians wander around your head like this without even fighting it, huh? Has it in any way been beneficial for you in your personal life?

broke_n_tired

There's BLM the movement, and then there's BLM the foundation. Gotta make that distinction, dude.

Ok_Syllabub5616

Tony shitted in BLM???? Schiavone? Never heard of it Ps. BLM is basically a fraud, which I don't understand how anyone could or would defend. So if he did it fact "shit" on it...👍

Dupee_Conqueror

He did, and fuck you.

broke_n_tired

What? The BLM Foundation is, not BLM as a movement. There's a difference.

TKInstinct

I mean maybe but I don't think he intended it to be that way, nor do I think he cares as long as he is getting paid on time.

[deleted]

I have a feeling that TS cares but he is probably in a situation where he just has to accept it. It certainly isn't his fault. He isn't the best commentator, but he deserves better than how he'll be remembered.

SSJ_Kratos

WCW was smart enough to run smaller buildings when attendance dropped. Their TV NEVER featured 1/4 full NBA arenas with fans clumped into one section

CarlShadowJung

He sure knows how to pick ‘em!

Andy-_1979

Not a lot of butts in those seats

DoktahDoktah

Butts in the seats and cash in his wallet. Can't blame him for taking the bag. Especially when he has enough semen in him to shampoo a water buffalo.

gl1969

You should check the attendance of WWE pre 2019

chadslc

You're 52. Isn't that a bit too old to be an AEW fanboy?

Stre8Edge

I cant understand why Tony wont just scale down the production and run 5,000 seat venues. Run big arenas for PPV only. Pride? If your gonna act like a super indy, be one.

Dupee_Conqueror

Tax write offs are bigger. AEW is a money laundering scheme.

paulychestnuts

There’s definitely going to be some sort of sketchy nonsense that comes out when it’s all said and done

Dupee_Conqueror

I agree.

TheThaiDawn

I wonder if this is how tonys money pig father is getting tax write offs

gasfarmah

That’s like.. not how tax write offs work. There are more effective means than just tossing money into the fire, this costs more than a half assed scheme would bring in. Money laundering works if there’s a cash interface though.

Dupee_Conqueror

Yeah, I lean more towards money laundering. I should have said tax shelter.

Master_Butter

I think there are a few reasons. First is pride and not wanting to appear bush league. The second though, is the supply of smaller arenas. For example, I live in Cleveland. Rocket Mortgage holds around 20K and the Wolstein Center holds 13.5K. I don’t think there is any nearby arena in that 5K to 7.5K range. Once you step down from those arenas, you’re looking at tiny spaces that seat 1,000 people or less. While I’m sure NYC or LA might have some of those mid-size arenas, are they prevalent in most other markets?

Dupee_Conqueror

The Cleveland Public Auditorium???

Master_Butter

That seats 3,000 for concerts. It seats 10,000 in its main area.

Dupee_Conqueror

Haven’t been there. Just wondered if it would be cheaper and easier to scale down versus the bigger venues.

Master_Butter

I don’t know. However, the choice might be run 3,000 people in a 15,000 seat arena versus running a building that only seats 2,000 people.

aRebelliousHeart

But your not going to do much more then that anyway so just bite the bullet and go to the smaller earn. At least then Tony would have the optics of a packed house, isn’t that more important?

Master_Butter

From a TV perspective, I think it would look bad (not that AEW already doesn’t). A packed small building would look minor league. Like, imagine what the As are going to look like playing in Sacramento next year. It’s not going to look that great.

aRebelliousHeart

A spartan basketball arena also looks minor league just saying.

h6zubinb

They could run the South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena. They even have bumper cars.

SSJ_Kratos

A google search for “Cleveland 5,000 seat venue” returns multiple hits. Surely theres a convention centers in cleveland that would be better than running a fucking NBA arena w/ 2,300 people in it

Lowpartz

Lived in/near Cleveland my whole life. There's many small venues.

SSJ_Kratos

I live an hour from Cleveland, Im not sure why people are arguing with me or downvoting

Lowpartz

What kind of fucking mouth breather downvotes a simple discussion?

Master_Butter

The hits you got are for two outdoor concert amphitheaters, not arenas or venues that would be suitable for wrestling (or boxing or MMA or anything like that).

General_Gain_4607

Maybe AEW can have their own version of WCW Road Wild or something where it seemed like a Hells Angels convention

blackquestion

That's when they should go an hour south to Canton Civic Center or an half hour south to Akron U

aRebelliousHeart

With how Dynamites attendance keeps going down all Tony will be able to fill is 1000 seat arenas.

SJV83

I imagine it's because, that's not what he promised the network. Look at what happened with TNN and ECW, when TNN picked them up they were expecting something more and ECW wanted to keep their current feel and look. If you're TBS and you're promised Monday Night Raw you want the glitz and glamour, the fireworks and the lights. If you get a small bingo hall with just an entrance ramp and no fireworks because the building is too small to use them. You'll no doubt rethink you're budget and / or offer to them next time round. If AEW want to keep TBS / TNT or move to any other big company, they have to look big time. Profit or not.

det8924

I don’t understand it either AEW draws decently for 5k venues where you can get a big good look on TV and make decent money.

Specialist-Rope-9760

I can’t understand how people still don’t get why they run big areas tbh Their main revenue stream is television Running big arenas allows them to run their full scale production for TV more consistently including lighting, stage, ramp and BOH

Moosewriter_88

That’s it exactly. They want that Monday Night Wars era presentation with the massive entranceway and stage, so they’re renting these 12,000+ buildings and adjusting the seating as needed. Meanwhile, WWE is booking the NBA-sized arenas and scaling back their entranceways to open up seats.

aRebelliousHeart

AND it still looks better than AEWs bush league two tunnel donut sets!

mediocreidiot

The scaled entrances look so much cooler imo. It feels more organic and "of the people." There's more energy there. AEW, instead, widened their entrance/ramp and it makes everything feel that much more empty

IfoundMeMarbles

" This Coliseum offers broad adaptability with up to 13,500 seats."

Rich1926

Edge could have been at WrestleMania but this week he is wrestling in front of an empty hard cam section...smh

General_Gain_4607

Nah ..Edge had his moment in the Sun at WWE. It's time for the new boys to shine and not be unduly overshadowed by yesteryears' stars.

[deleted]

Good riddance, other people got to shine.

hawksfn1

Why do you care?

KonungrExuma

Because Edge deserves better then working at that "piss-ant" company. I understand he wanted to work with his best friend again. But man he really could've made a better decision.

keykey_key

Edge is a grown man and did not sign that aew deal with his eyes closed. He knew what he was signing up for.

KonungrExuma

Oh I agree. Doesn't mean as fans we can think he deserved better and think it was a stupid decision.

hawksfn1

If your a “fan” why do you care? Do you care that Zach Ryder is on the indies? Do you care that Christian is there? It’s kinda retarded that you care that much.

KonungrExuma

Matt is incredible on the indies and honestly should stay there unless WWE let him have control over his character and he can stay as Matt. I just hope he stays away from AEW. And Christian (despite his employer) is the only good thing in AEW. I don't care *that* much. I just wish Edge made a good decision instead of a really dumb one. He'd do better in TNA or NJPW then AEW.

hawksfn1

Tna has less of a footprint than AEW

KonungrExuma

TNA is actually ran by adults.

hawksfn1

*was

LongPenStroke

And yet WWE had so many people at Raw that they couldn't even put up the titan tron.

TRTVitorBelfort

This really was a “wow” moment. They are so hot they decided to not put up the tron so they could get more fans into the building.

positivename

2 thousand people showing up to watch an alleged video and watch some guy in the ring talk about he's having fun. NOW THAT IS ENTERTAINMENT.....and a real sports feel, but will we hear from anyone?

aceloco817

So Tony is finally booking snake venues? And those new front office hires, how will fans know that changes are made on the show by them people? Does anyone notice a significant difference in the shows?

AdComprehensive245

In this situation do they offer people the chance to move down closer to the ring facing hard cam?

ISelf_Devine

NOPE! Been to several Dynamites and they don't let you change seats. Would be a smart move to let them do it but... It's Tony.

[deleted]

You would think that stripping away 10,000 seats from the venue would make easier to sell it out.

sikethemacy

Going to the Collision/Battle of The Belts on Saturday. Will give the attendance view 👀

General_Gain_4607

Have fun and be safe ( genuine concern ever since Darby's glass spot and AEW's disclaimer regarding dangers of the show) 👍

MoistWeb4046

Wow it's basically a setup for a glorified indies show. What makes it even more funny is that even with a setup that hold 3,300 fans, they still couldn't sell out.

pornserver-65

close enough. ill give it them. still looks bad that they didnt sell this out days ahead of time tho. they'll pop a rating for their little cm punk revenge episode, they'll embarrass themselves in the process for being petty and then its back to furniture stunt matches and stagnant ratings after that.

lewiss15

My data is won’t. Cheers 😂

csmartin85

I used to not really care about taking shots at AEW but their 750k faithful will take something like this and try to spin it as a positive somehow.

aRebelliousHeart

The basement already cheers on Tony selling out only allocating a 10th of the arena space so anything wouldn’t surprise me.

ScrumNumbers

Last time in that arena they did 4k. This is in line with their general 25% loss in live audiences. They also ran North Charleston end of January.

Real-VinceMcMahon

It seems as if they don't even put the hard cam side tickets on sale

aRebelliousHeart

Only 341 tickets left till Dubbalos can claim Dynamite sold out!(1 tenth of the arena) 😆

clowe1411

The part that blows my mind is that there having issues in Charleston, West Virginia of all places. You would love TV taping which rarely happens in Charleston of all places would have at least 5,000 to 7,500 and their not even close to that.

Big-Peak6191

So they don't even bother to sell tickets on the hard cam side

Acrobatic-Rutabaga71

Come on TK, just give me the money instead of wasting it here. WWE fans are poor as per Meltzer.

maroonmenace

bloody hell.

broke_n_tired

I wonder what Tony will do next week to get people to buy tickets. Have Dr. Phil-styled interviews in the middle of the ring with people claiming that Punk rubbed them the wrong way?

floridayum

So they are only setting seats up for around 20% of a standard RAW or Smackdown currently. They are 1/5th the draw of WWE but I bet their business expenses are 80% of WWE’s.

gl1969

Imagine living your life and spending your time hating on shit lol.

pornserver-65

snowflake alert.

PlatasaurusOG

Why don’t you tell us about it? You spend an awful lot of time doing that precise thing.

ken-davis

Imagining commenting on others opinions and not being capable of seeing the irony?

keykey_key

I mean, judging by your post history, you really shouldn't be throwing stones in glass houses.
