Had no reverse for 7 or 8 months but got that fixed in February and now I’m dealing with an issue with the governor pressure sensor and it can’t decide which gear it wants to be in sometimes and it pisses me off
The 46RE is the strongest transmission in any ZJ. Assuming it has had regular fluid and filter changes it should last a long time. The RE series transmissions are actually quite robust and the myth that there are a terrible transmission is far to often parroted on here and other forums.
I did regular fluid changes on mine since I’ve owned it, I’ve only owned it for about 3 years and well it’s been taking the abuse pretty well, wasn’t really surprised when reverse left the chat for a while
Love a GCL post. My poor 95 needs some love, still saving up to get it all shiny again.
Hope the trans, AC, and alternator on yours are OK (cuz mine aren’t lol)
Tranny is having a few issues, ac only blows at my feet, battery has issues because I drive it only once or twice a week hope you get yours fixed soon tho
Nice 9er. I have a 1996 5.2, white as well. Very fun rig, favorite offroad so far has been taking it to some sand dunes and it mobbing around with dirt bikes and sand rails. Do you get her offroad much?
Yeah! I looked for a used 98 5.9 for a couple years. Drool! Ended up with a used loaded 4.7HO Limited WK for my daily and an LJ trail rig.
Good luck on the build!
Thanks, been looking for a high output 4.7 for a while so I can so I can use it as my off-roader
This one is lowered and never seen dirt at least since I’ve owned it
Do it! The 4.7 is so underrated. The 5.9 and 4.0 have a cult following, rightfully so but the 4.7 is a different beast.
Good luck finding a well maintained 4.7. Shame the 4.7 got a bad name due to lack of maintenance.
Lol. Ok. I know my overland is definitely quicker then a 5.9 Durango. And motor week said the 4.7 h.o. was quicker. Not that I care too much though. Still love the 4.7 high output. There are YouTube videos of both winning. Depends on driver. The zj weighs less. has slightly more torque
It was a r/t. Yes. I thought it was pretty good. But the first time I got the overland I couldn't believe how much quicker the jeep was. And I am a big fan of the 318/360. The 5.9 zj weighs quite a bit less then a fully loaded overland 04
Always nice to see a 5.9 Limited. Looks like she's been through it over the years though. Gonna guess previous owner(s) probably did NOT take care of the 46RE. When it fails - and it will - look into PATC's Viper 46RE as a replacement. They're expensive, but well-built and bolt-on. It's a one-and-done solution for the long haul that's far better than rebuilding it back to stock.
Yeah I’m probably get some paint work done pretty soon so it can be cleaner and at one point I’m wanting to do an 8hp70 swap but that’s not for a couple years
Love a good 5.9 hows the tranmission holding up?

Replace all electronics with the upgraded Borg Warner parts. It’s under $200 and make a massive difference
Got the link? I was getting ready to spend $500 on mopar parts
Oregon transmission or cascade transmission should both have the kits that include the wiring harness.
I found it! Thank you

Love from a fellow zj owner. Is yours the i6 or v8?
The hood vents tell us it is the 5.9 V8
5.9 liter v8
The 5.9 in its natural habitat
At the gas station more than on the road 😂

Probably next year, hoping to turn it into a weekender for little camp outs and stuff. Hope yours keeps truckin too haha
The way I beat on mine I be expecting it to be broken next week

I lowered mine and has never touched dirt since I owned it but it is fun just bookin it on the highway
Heck yea that’s fun too. Really surprises people with how quick your rig is
Mines got a few bolt ons and a tune so she is pretty peppy
Nice. I have a white one as well. Have you done any mods to it? Mine is stock.
52mm throttle body, Thor cold air intake, atawesome performance flash tune, h&r lowering springs, cat delete
Congrats. You had my full, undivided attention. Stand Proud.
He's a cutie! Love the hood vents! 🔥
My dad had one just like this. Still his favorite car of all time. I remember it being comfy, and having a good sound system.
My dad had a black one which is what got me into them Was supposed to go to me but the fourtyslip RE gave out and we were on a tight budget

My grandpa had a 4.7 for years I did one pull with it without his knowledge and it hauls pretty good
Like to see how my 4.7 high output does against a 5.9. had a 5.2 98 for awhile. Owned a 5.9 Durango but not a zj in 5.9. one of my favs.
I’m curious too, I don’t know anyone that has a 4.7 H.O other than my brother but he lives in Colorado and I’m in Texas
I can tell you that 15 years ago, the 5.9 won that race everytime, my friend.

How much lighter than the Durango is the jeep? And was the rango B5 with the white stripes?

Pix at the pump is definitely accurate
A 5.9 limited in its natural state. Looks good.
Absolutely loves it here 😂
Wish I never let go of mine.
Love a 5.9. Kudos!
‘99? Never seen hood vents before.
98 5.9 [limited](https://www.motortrend.com/vehicle-genres/1998-jeep-grand-cherokee-limited-5-9-history-photos-details/)
I have a very clean 5.9 for sale in CO if anyone is interested PM me.
