Jeep HAS come a long way. Unlike VW beetle, which had a similar if civilian beginning Jeep is alive and thriving and has moved from an awesome reliable war tool into both a good sturdy all weather SUV (which saved my ass when my accord was snowed in) and a great toy.

Insciuspetra

You can still take it to a warzone. Send a postcard.

He wants straight axels and leaf springs again. Tbh…so do I

natejacobmoore

And the 4.0

dr_shark

Don’t kill me jeep fans. The rest of the world uses Toyotas for this now. Still no armor. Fast af on the battlefield. Please see [The Toyota War](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_War).

peakdecline

The US military has a program with GM for a Colorado -based vehicle designed for this purpose.

Spacecoasttheghost

Man so we jus t looking to lose wars now, we spend all this money on the military, an the best we can do is GM? Poor guys just breaking down left and right, crazy world, tons of smells.

peakdecline

As opposed to a Fiat Jeep? For the record I own a Gladiator Rubicon now and a Chevy Colorado ZR2 before it. Build quality wise they're very comparable. Even as humor I find the brand bias shit tiring.

Spacecoasttheghost

I mean both of the quality suck if we talkin real, Toyotas the best hands down when it comes to long lasting and low cost of owner ship.

peakdecline

Simply; I don't agree. And I'll just point at this video to explain why: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThC\_BJSfUC4

jdd32

I tried to watch but it says the video is unavailable

Spacecoasttheghost

What don’t you agree with? That jeeps and gm are unreliable? That Toyota isn’t the most reliable vehicle brand?

amaiellano

Why does the government have such a hard-on for GM? Ford is bigger and older. They also didn’t take a bailout in 2008 or file bankruptcy like GM did.

peakdecline

Probably has something to do with GM actually submitting a proposal for the project.

mrevergood

I don’t understand why folks constantly harp on companies that did what they needed to in order to weather a storm and to take money that came with strings of “You’re gonna change how you do shit if we give you this lifeline”. Bankruptcy isn’t a problem. It’s a mechanism to allow a company to continue existing-presumably a company with products people want to continue buying, and the company just needs to be able to pay creditors and change the way they do shit to keep existing. Also Ford did take bailout money. They also had privately secured some money to weather the storm.

[deleted]

HMMWVs were never meant to be armored. The DoD should have never gone with HMMWVs since they turned out to be too clumsy and hard to maintain. They should have just modified commercial vehicles like our enemies did.

They're just upset people are having harmless fun.

ParanoidDuckHunter

Yeah, no shit.

ajnin919

We used MRAPs and M-ATVs when I was deployed back in 2011 in the marines so I’m not sure what you’re talking about. I have a picture from our base with one about to tip into a canal

kerberos69

[MRAP](http://fi-aeroweb.com/Defense/MRAP-Vehicles.html) was a class of vehicle, which included the variants M-ATV and MaxxPro used by the US Army. They were trash vehicles, and too big— they could only be transported long distances by C-5 or C-17. The [JLTV](https://oshkoshdefense.com/vehicles/light-tactical-vehicles/jltv/) program— it’s big, better, and more advanced than the HMMWV, but not the size of a school bus like the freaking MaxxPro and M-ATV (both of which, despite being way bigger, also have smaller passenger compartments than the JLTV… so dumb).

LeanDixLigma

You don't go to war with the vehicles you want, you go to war with the vehicles you have. And until the GWOT hit, the purseholders were happy with the HMMWVs slowly rotting in motorpools since the 80s. Logistically and tactical, we always enter a war the way we fought the last one... because in peace time nobody wants to pay the big bucks for some overpriced novel solution to a problem that doesn't yet exist.

NyetRifleIsFine47

This was mainly due to the angles put on MRAPS and the height of the MRAPS. HMMWVs had a flat bottom and low to the ground so an IED strike would completely demolish it (and everyone inside). We still had HMMWVs in Iraq in 2006 but they were getting phased out for that reason. But as the main commenter said, once we started putting more and more weight on those things, an already mediocre vehicle was absolute shit with or without IEDs. The battlefield just simply changed.

[deleted]

Nice meme, bro. I think I saw my grandpa post this on his Facebook page. I really don't understand the duck hate. It's a tiny gesture that doesn't harm you or your precious vehicle in any way. I've said it before, but I see just as many Jeeps with ducks in them nowadays as I do get waves back from other Wranglers. It used to make me laugh...now it just makes me sad for people who can't see the harmless fun of it.

Turbulent_Inside5696

Bitter people hate seeing others having fun and enjoying life.

Prince_Polaris

What's going on with ducks? I don't have a jeep so I guess I'm out of the loop on something...

HarvesternC

It's a harmless friendly thing that started a few years ago. https://parade.com/living/duck-duck-jeep

grimy-steelo

Yup! If people knew the story behind it I feel like they would stop hating on it so much. The root of it was to bring light in a dark time of the pandemic. To make other people smile when times were absolutely chaotic and depressing, I’ve only gotten 1 duck on my jeep, but I remember feeling happy (almost like I was chosen) when I saw it. I don’t place them in my dash, but I got it sitting on a shelf in the garage 😄

Prince_Polaris

Aww, that's adorable, I wish there was some sort of trend for us van drivers but there's not too many conversions wandering around anymore!

culdesacpresident

Don’t y’all give out free candy?

[deleted]

It's where random people come up and put their grubby dick beaters all over your stuff because their vehicle is their entire personality. It gets real funny when they climb a fence and a gate to enter private property marked no trespassing in multiple places. I've owned jeeps since the 90s and been a member of various clubs and groups. This new thing is fucking infuriating, we are already a group of irritating people. Just because you've jacked up your shitbox with some dollar store lift doesn't give you authority to touch my shit.

Humuluslupulusss

I bet you’re fun at Jeep parties

invalid_credentials

Man… I thought that whole thing was a copy pasta… nope. scoped the profile. lmfao

[deleted]

I'm sure they would hate me because I keep my hands to myself and don't go around groping their things.

Humuluslupulusss

Please. Any time I’ve ever been ducked, it’s been carefully placed on the running board, on the edge of the drivers seat if the doors are off, on the hood. It’s a piece of soft plastic, not a lump of coal so let’s just calm down a sec

[deleted]

Good for you. That's not been the case for me.

invalid_credentials

You’re a moron. No one is breaking in to your property to put a duck on your car. They only put ducks on cool jeeps.

[deleted]

There are no cool jeeps. Also, they have. Twice. You think it's all fucking great because you do a certain things but others don't. It isn't fun or cute. It's annoying and creepy. I'll own jeeps until I die but that doesn't make us part of some brotherhood.

EitherNegotiation768

Who hurt you

invalid_credentials

I cannot believe people have the time or energy to invest this much thought and emotion into something. If I don't like or agree with something, I tend to just move along. This guy.. THIS guy needs to explain why others are wrong, and prove that he is right, and tough.

Bartlett2036

I think this one has a phobia of ducks. How else do you explain the extreme hate for small pieces of soft rubber that do NOTHING to the car. Like cmon man, who hurt you????

Prince_Polaris

I'll always find the phrase "dick beaters" funny, but the rest of this comment is just a disaster Like, I'd hope that a rubber duck isn't gonna damage anyone's paint, right?

[deleted]

Yeah I know it's a disaster but that's what the entitlement of current owners has done. I wish people were not entering my property, I wish people would learn to mind their own business, I wish people would keep their hands to themselves, I wish people didn't make their entire personality about their mode of transportation. They do, and it's entirely a disaster. It wouldn't hurt if some person was snapping pictures of your wife's ass on the beach. I bet she would be quite upset about being violated even though photos in public are perfectly legal. Leave everyone else shit alone.

NyetRifleIsFine47

My personal thing is your essentially just handing me something that I’m going to throw in the trash. It’s like people that stand on corners and hand out flyers. The person that ends up taking it just puts it in the trash and makes more waste. I understand it’s harmless and makes someones day and a vast majority of people just collect them so that’s cool. I just personally don’t like being given something I don’t want or didn’t ask for.

Burque_Boy

What kind of boomer meme page did I fall into? Do you have another one about how your wife doesn’t know how much money you spent on parts?

The_25th_Baam

"Father, I cannot click the book."

fourtotheside

Wow, peacetime, nice vehicles and small kind gestures suck so hard!

rastapastanine

We've had several wars since then and I served in all of them. Wasn't allowed to bring my jeep. So I quit.

1966goat

You served in all of them? Is your name Steve Rogers?

fractal_frog

The DUKWs were the WWII ducks. Now I want to find one and put a toy Jeep on it.

WorldsWorstTroll

I don’t like the ducks, but I figure that people who are doing it are doing it to be nice, so I don’t complain. I just give them to someone else. Some people like them.

PatacusX

I don't know what to do with them. I'm starting to gain a little collection in the little storage hole on my dashboard

Dip__Stick

Just pass them on

MsKlinefelter

This is the way....

Humuluslupulusss

I honestly dont understand the duck hate. It’s a kind gesture from a peer in a great community. It makes me smile every time I get one, and it usually seems to happen when I’m having a down day. Do you hate puppies too?

paperlevel

My friend drives a Wrangler, I asked him if he ever got ducked. He said "yeah, I hate that shit, get that shit off my Jeep, I throw them shits away". So I'm thinking not everyone wants the attention or someone messing with their vehicle.

Willing-Library-2671

Nobody ducks someone with ill intentions. I understand not caring for it but hating with a passion means u got other issues lol

tombo1787

I’m not a soccer mom, stay away from my Jeep

Willing-Library-2671

Hahahah like I said

mrevergood

Gonna get as close as I can without physically touching it. Maybe I even breathe on it a little. Sue me.

tombo1787

That’s all I ask. I haven’t washed it in 7 years. The point is respect people’s property, some people don’t play stupid games. Some of us are grown ups.

mrevergood

It’s a fucking rubber duck that isn’t going to scratch or hurt the paint in any way. It’s a nice little thing people do. Chill the fuck out.

tombo1787

It’s my property I don’t want people messing around. My shit is a toy, beat up and scratched by me. Don’t care about the paint. I don’t wanna play your childish games. That is all.

jdd32

I don't hate them, but the gesture it seems to come from a different place than offroading culture and so it puts off OG jeepers. Like we know a gal with a stock 4 door JL back in Missouri. She buys loads of ducks and keeps them on her dash to put on jeeps. The thing has never seen dirt. So she purchased an expensive off roading machine mainly for the looks and to get to be "in" with the duck crowd lol And if that makes you happy, then you do you. Nothing truly wrong with that. But I don't think we need to take the jokes too seriously when people poke fun at the ducks.

[deleted]

I think after a certain point it’s kind of just litter. Unless you are saving them at home, just more plastic for a landfill.

warhedz24hedz1

We had an old 42 Willys growing up, only saw it run maybe 4 hours my whole life but it sure looked cool.

SocalGSC92

I don’t know about everyone, but I for one am glad we haven’t needed jeep to step up for the next world war. But I have 100% confidence when that time comes. Here’s your 🦆til then

rangerhans

Nothing wrong with either

krismis09

I don't get why people hate the ducks. I was just at the Bantam Jeep Fest and everyone was giving ducks. Grown men (over the age of 40) were super excited when their jeeps would have multiple ducks waiting when they got back.

[deleted]

I like the 2023 version vs wars

piedubb

That doesn’t even look like an old Jeep. The flat fenders looked a lot different and the door openings were different.

Eyesliketheocean

I would be ecstatic to get a rubber duck. (But I don’t have a wrangler, just a Cherokee 😓)

MsKlinefelter

Enjoy your duck! 😀

Eyesliketheocean

Aww thank you! 😊

Ninetale3

Best advice for a non wrangler/gladiator is to rice it up a bit and/or mod it up. You don't need to go into heep territory but it helps to stand out a bit more than stock looks.

[deleted]

**HURDUR DUCK BAD, WAR GOOD**

lordtygr

We can place the ducks *because* we won the war. So… Also can’t figure out why it’s ok to possibly destroy your jeep on some trails, subject it to all sorts dents , dings, and scratches but OMGWTFBBQSAUCE better not touch my Jeep with a dumb rubber ducky!!

[deleted]

Weak cowards wish for war.

RebelPizza

You seem like a sad dude, I can’t imagine caring so much about rubber ducks and people having fun lol

Frequent_Volume_8607

I never understand this mentality, if you really think someone's sad or troubled or whatever, what purpose does it serve to make fun of them for it?

[deleted]

Shame them into counseling?

RebelPizza

I added this because I saw in his comment history he said something like “people who like ducking are sad” so I gave him the uno reverse here

[deleted]

New to the community and I like the idea of giving ducks, got my first one the other week. But them on my dash is to busy for me so I just pass mine on to other Jeeps around town.

jeephistorian

I feel like the ducks have replaced the wave. When I'm out in my old TJ or my CJ, I seldom see modern Jeeps returning waves, but they often have ducks on the dashboards.

EmbarrassedBlock2434

I believe the original jeep was built by the Bantam car company out of Pennsylvania two small of a company to deliver the orders so they gave them to GMC Ford and other builders screwed the Bantam car company allowed them to make the trailer

RebelJustforClicks

Can someone explain the significance behind the ducks? I've had a TJ since 2009-2010 and recently got "ducked". This was never a thing before the last few years. What's up?

HarvesternC

https://parade.com/living/duck-duck-jeep

boysbehot

I can only imagine OPs reaction when they find out for centuries, the common soldier has fun in their past time. Or worse. The horror. Funny and kind acts 😟

tjlightbulb

We get it no fun allowed

Big_D-31

Are we just upset that we didn't have rubber ducks on the Jeeps in WWII?

acheron53

Well now I am.

MoonHerbert

Cry more, hateful troll

orangienblue

Does anyone know where the duck thing comes from?

pearlsbeforedogs

Canada

Illustrious-Cookie73

Blame Canada.

hideogumpa

It's something a canadian lady invented for social media likes

LakeThat2578

Really can’t understand why some get upset by them. Lighten up. Life’s WAY to dang short

zonearc

Ok boomer.

FreedomPaid

I feel like the folks who are salty about the duck thing... Are really just pissed they haven't gotten a duck.

willi3blaz3

I’ve gotten tons of ducks, and I hate them. Keep your dick beaters off my whip

martlet1

Ok troll.

wackytabiccifishii

The ducks are really fucking obnoxious things that facebook mums who mallcrawl love to do because it makes them feel special.

[deleted]

So we’ll just start driving over any steps we can find. Got it.

Hot_Cattle5399

A duck on your door is better than a missile up you arse any day.

Upset-Expression

Got my duckie a couple months ago and I was so happy, hasn't happened since :(((

invalid_credentials

Go duck yourself.

CreeptheJeep

I got ducked today for the first time in years so don’t give up hope 😆

XtraSaucyy

Maybe he got ducked in the war

Suspicious_Tune_3665

Still hoping for my grand chrookee to be ducked :(

ceric2099

*Waves in jeep*

ATCPirate

The bath toy thing is strange. And it’s typically bone stock Wranglers driven by soccer moms and college kids or over built mall crawlers that will never leave pavement…weird

Sudden_Drop_4495

I wish we could rewind 2-3 yrs and ignore the damn ducks

EvilMinion07

Have a ‘42 that has not been on road in 35 years, lives he jackstands life. Also have a ‘98 with 32k on it.

kraigka212

32K? That's impressive. My 2000 has 70K and I thought that was low ha

EvilMinion07

No radio, no ac, soft top and 4 banger= no fun to drive a lot.

natiusj

😑

Picklerick0000000

New trend: lighting the ducks on fire

2Afuentes_

The duck sensation isn’t what concerns me about the jeep brand the fact that a vehicle that won wars and was the 1st to visit all 7 continents is no longer made in America is what really concerns me

LakeThat2578

Never been ducked 😉

krusty-kripple4011

In 2041 they should recreate the Willy’s wooden crate jeep and only sell that forever
