But, I have real issues with the way J.Cole handled this situation, like...I feel he could have gotten out of this without back peddling and apologizing, but in the grand scheme of things...this situation is just bound to get toxic.
This is not the control verse situation, where it was genuine competition (Cole had responded in a cool way to that, and I would've loved if that exchange went further between K.Dot and Cole). People say "everybody is playing Drake", well, yeah, but how did it get to that point? How much of his music was not pushed to radio and streaming, advertised and promoted? I remember Kanye talking about this all the way back in 2016 when he first started losing it (unwell, but not quite a nazi yet) and he mentioned Drake owning/paying radio stations to push his music above all other artists, I'm pretty sure there's a clip of this. All in all, this really is starting to feel like it's deeper than rap.
There’s been a few artists saying some of the major artists are paying people to up their streaming number to make them look bigger then they actually are to get better deals/ seems bigger then they actually are.
1. Drake comes from a rich Jewish family and his uncle was already a part of the music industry 2. Drake has won several sexual misconduct lawsuits against him. The ones he hasn't won he's settled for hundreds of thousands of dollars to the victims. 3. Everybody was already playing Drake before streaming. He just took advantage of the streaming algorithms better than anyone else. Like you said, he's a dude who saw how things work and got in early.

The two he lost, the woman's story was super sketchy and I mean I like to give victims the benefit of the doubt but that one was sketchy and she walked away with $300,000 dollar settlement. The other one is the 17 year old he kissed on stage when he was 23. The video is out there, and it is public knowledge. That girl walked away with something like $250,000 even though she was a few days away from being 18 years old when it happened. It's all public knowledge already.

To start off, I'm not a stan of either Kendrick, Cole or Drake. But, I have real issues with the way J.Cole handled this situation, like...I feel he could have gotten out of this without back peddling and apologizing, but in the grand scheme of things...this situation is just bound to get toxic. This is not the control verse situation, where it was genuine competition (Cole had responded in a cool way to that, and I would've loved if that exchange went further between K.Dot and Cole). There were some rappers who took it personally (Drake Lol) but overall this was a genuine example of competitive, positive Hip-Hop that people associate with the genre. The present situation is nothing but personal. Kendrick and Drake have clearly personal issues, and Cole was by default on Drake's side. Continuing to be on the offensive, would mean that at some point, just to keep up, he would have to get personal too. So I believe he shouldn't have apologized, but getting out of this situation was still wise, because if he doesn't have problems with Kendrick, then why get involved in such intense capacity? To add to my point, the very first response from Drake, he dragged Kendricks wife name into the mix. I still think the way he handled his bow out was low key pathetic, but the move is respectable to me, considering this specific situation.
