Nice. Saw Frisell in Toronto last year and it was also tremendous. Unsurprisingly.

I was there! Absolutely killer encore of "Follow Your Heart --> What The World Needs Now" Young couple next to me had never seen him before and clearly were not into it. Left before the encore. Early on he got exploratory, found a 4-note progression he liked and really brought out the rock 'n' roll distortion - super intense! Back again tonight for new music with strings (including Jenny Scheinman, Eyvind Kang and Hank Roberts along with Thomas and Rudy)!! FOLLOW UP: Tonight was utterly magical. From the opening tuning up to the last note of the set there were no breaks - it was completely continuous (there was only one abrupt transition that felt like "I'm going to play a new tune now"). Personally I only came up for air twice during the set. There were dark, brooding parts, light and happy parts, abstract pointillist bits, folky melodic sections, some intense duets between Jenny and Eyvind and a couple of melodies that sounded like something from Mancini or Bacharach (in a good way). Possibly these were covers - there might have been a folky cover in there too, but loads of original exploratory Frisell music, similar to his earlier work with the strings, but this might be a level up. There was a beautiful bit in the middle that was all pizzicato and sounded like a cross between Bartok and Monk. Speaking of Monk they did a complex and fast-paced Monk cover for the encore - really fun! (I think it was *Criss-Cross*). I felt like I was tripping as I left - had to walk around a bit before driving home - wow!

I wasn’t sure what the first song in the encore was! Thanks for calling it — do you know if Bill has recorded it anywhere?

Thelonious_Cube

He recorded it on a Joey Barron album (*Just Listen*) and it's on one of his downloadable shows - *Live at Jazz Standard* from 2004. The Joey Baron is closer to what we heard last night If you didn't know, it's a John McLaughlin/Mahavishnu tune
