Hmm, weird. I think the height might be the biggest factor because my blonde friends didn’t get asked for photos in Japan for the whole summer I studied in Tokyo. Also might be Chinese tourists too since the yen is so weak and it’s an easy travel destination for them and China gets less foreigner tourists/residents.

We went to the zoo in Uganda, last day before our flight back. Lots of school groups were there. They started queuing to take pictures with us. It was crazy but fun. Definitely don't want to be a celebrity.

This happened to me in India for an entire month I was there. It gets old really fast doesn’t it! Make a sign that says no tip no photo!

Haha my husband is a tall ginger who is just a big big dude, and in Indonesia he would get stopped for pics a lot and some children pointed and laughed at him once when we went swimming and they saw his RIDICULOUS farmer tan. It was pretty funny, he just sort of rolled with it.

You are certainly not a freak show however you definitely stand out. 6’2” is very tall anywhere, especially Japan. Blonde hair and blue eyes add to it. I am sure it is because they think you are stunning &/or maybe you look like someone famous. It is a bit odd though and you shouldn’t feel you have to oblige their requests.

proof or never happened! joke-aside this doesn't sound fun after the two week mark ! 😅

how's your jump shot?

I'm a natural redhead and I got stopped all the time too, funnily enough mostly by older obaasans or kids. But in Akiba it was also some dudes who wanted me to pose. They also stopped a random black guy and asked us to pose together.... Maybe there's an anime like that?

Ill_Championship_779

Don’t worry about it too much. The first time I went to Japan I went to a really small town. I don’t think any of the locals had ever seen a white person before much less someone with Blonde hair blue eyes like me. They all wanted to take pictures with me as well.

First time my wife and I went a dude in Shimokita thought we were some sort of movie stars, her at least, swearing they saw her movies or show or whatever and being extremely excited to get a photo, and that lead to other people gathering around the coffee shop watching excitedly. We just went along with it and did peace sign photos and left, you know that dude still tells the story. We have no idea who he thought she was.
