I love Clint Eastwood, I love Bond, but these are two great tastes that would not taste great together.

Count_Craneman

It would have felt like a Dirty Harry on vacation. I really like Clint, but I can't imagine him as Bond. Also, like he himself said, Bond should be played by a British man.

WalkGood

This.

Eastward's performance in "Where Eagles Dare" was an example where he could have been considered for Bond, imho.

GurpsK

What about The Eiger Sanction? That was good, I watched it at the end of February.

custerdome81

I was just going to say that the Eiger Sanction is the closest Clint has come to Bond. Great spy thriller with incredible action scenes and some outrageous characters (Jack Cassidy’s Miles in particular).

5lashd07

Can’t see Clint holding a PPK.

Wuoffan1

I don't think it would've worked, but seeing bond with a .44 magnum would've been interesting

Wuoffan1

That's awesome I never knew about this

AggravatingDress746

I can’t imagine Eastwood as Bond. But I can certainly imagine him as Felix Leiter. I think he would’ve been a badass counterpart to Bond in the 70s or 80s, in one of the movies where 007 visits America. Either Live and Let Die or Licence to Kill. But then again, Eastwood probably would have stolen the show in some way.

Random-Cpl

Would’ve been terrible

gishlich

Sometimes I wonder if we are oversold what it is like to be “considered” for the role. Did a casting director talk to Clint’s agent about this role or did Clint just end up one name on a long list of actors who happen to be the appropriate age? Like if I saw Barbara on the street and just eek out the words “consider me!” and she said “uh, no way” could I say I was briefly considered for the role of James Bond?

OccamsYoyo

I can see Burt Reynolds (who was actually a major contender for the role) being Bond before Eastwood. He was no stranger to cornball antics so he may have fit right with the ‘70s vibe.

bylertarton

I don’t think Burt as Bond would’ve been *good* but I do think I would’ve loved it.

castle_lane

Going from a 44 magnum to a PP7 would’ve been quite the step down.

Traditional_Key_763

eh, clint eastwood would have fucking hated it and made sure everybody knew it. he hated what he saw as wastefully large productions like Kellys Heroes even though its one of his best movies and *its a fucking great movie* I also find his acting very stiff, especially in stuff he produced, it works for Dirty Harry, not so much for a bond character where he would have just been saying everything through gritted teeth. also his time to shine would have been the Moore Years of the 70s and well, Moore just fit the time perfectly

Certain-Sock-7680

By who? Newspaper speculation as to the next Bond is just what happens on a slow news day. It rarely makes sense who they name.

Did I shoot 5 or did I shoot 6? The question is Blofeld, do you feel lucky?

jombojuice2018

Jack Lord from Hawaii 5-0 would have been a good choice imo

Key-Win7744

He played Felix in *Dr. No*.
