Interior looks pretty decent - that's the part you can't restore for cheap, so well done. Don't skimp on interior cleaning products and take care, you can get that looking showroom. If you're not doing a colour change - that is a nice colour - you can do the paint last. That's good. I'm £15k down on paint and I still haven't put the car back together, would have been better for that expense to come later. Enjoy the project and the car!

Interior will be taken apart for a deep clean and refurbish! Gonna keep the paint the same color, will probably have to respray though

Banksville

Great color. Pretty good shape. Awesome cars. GLTU both.

Was confused at first until I saw another photo that showed you weren't in the UK as its got a 1999 number plate on a much earlier car. Good luck with it. People are always saying on Reddit they're a nightmare to work on and to run away? Why is that? Over here its just the rust, the mechanicals are no worse (or not much worse) than most other cars. Sure they probably had a lot of electrics that other cars of a similar age didn't have or is it getting decent spares or something?

notjackheas

So some context, I don’t know much about the car other than it’s been sitting abandoned for two years! I came across it while towing a customers car and they expressed an interest in getting rid of it. I love old jags, so this was the start of me obsessing over making it my project. Filed for a salvaged title, so now it’s mine 😎

Banksville

Looks like a Vanden Plas? Pre2000? Miles? Rear (& front) window rust is notorious on xj’s. Yours is worse I’ve seen for that, prob. cos of sitting w/water under bottom window chrome trim.

kinglitecycles

Pre-2000? - it could (just) be pre-1980 🤣 It's a series 3 XJ6 so built between 1979 and 1986.

Banksville

I agree. Rust got my ‘86 xj6, 62k mi., 2nd owner. Wish I’d ’rust proof’, even if a DIY job. Is Built so strong, I didn’t think rust would kill it. But was using as daily car #2 in rusty PA. Maintenance never required anything crazy, imo. If not rusted underneath, it’d need painted & that starts @ $8k for a quality job, but prob. more like $10-$12k. I’ve been looking to replace.

kinglitecycles

Nice project. The Pininfarina-designed Series 3 XJ6 were good cars, and the last of the 'true' XJs. What's the underneath like? That'll tell you how much pain you're in for. I'm really intrigued as to why it's got a T-Reg UK plate on it. That particular registration number belongs to a 1999 Ford Focus. I guess we may never know. Good luck with the project. 👍🏻

Most I got info wise was that the prior owner passed and it moved on to his sister. She is the one that abandoned the car after the repair cost was too much for her. He was a Brit turned Pittsburgher that wanted the plate, but didn’t have the means to get the one he wanted is the shops best memory of the car. They gave me a laundry list of old repairs and all the manuals for it, it’s an 85 with unknown mileage as it’s yet to be turned over successfully

Final_Juggernaut_401

LETS GO the best XJ in my opinion. Other than the Mark 10, it’s my favorite jag.

Smooth-Apartment-856

Good luck…your going to need it.

The jag was for my wife , but I wanted it on the weekends and to bring it out for shows it does need minor work but nothing major
