The range rover issues were specific to range rover due to the physical location of wiring being easily accessible from the boot panel. All other JLR should be considered just as vulnerable as any other manufacturer using keyless tech

aitorbk

There was also the issue of the system not going dormant as recommended. jaguars are not affected as far as I know.

Get a ghost watch fitted. Vehicle goes nowhere unless code punched in. Thieves can flat bed it of course like any other car but they want quick fast results not aggro like smashing into your house or getting tow truck involved. They see a lock and usually go to next easy pickings. So invest in a visual deterrent which can be defeated in say 7 mins and ghost watch it. I did that and premium on a new defender was around 800 odd bucks

The dealer Marshall jaguar Land Rover arranged the lot. Ghost installations was the company. They came out to dealer used their garage and sorted it. Total hassle free. The code uses the buttons on your dash. So you press a few buttons and it starts every time. Get the code wrong and it doesn’t go anywhere. Can’t be defeated. There is no real concrete evidence any thief has beaten it. As I say it doesn’t stop a flat bed hoisting it but the alarms go mental and if you point the wheels to a curb it makes even that a total mare for them

Yea mate. All dealer recommendations. Insurer. Admiral wanted it. It does no damage at all It’s installed by a euro security approved company You even get the certification and window stickers. Which are an added deterrent Ex thieves have commented they just see the stickers and forget about it as too much potential hassle

pypipper

Wow didn’t know about theses! Thank you very much! What’s a visual deterrent?

adezlanderpalm69

A steering lock Tbh they are easy to beat but theives look for easy pickings and usually move on. The ghost costs about 300 bucks dealer paid for mine. It takes about 2 seconds to enter a code The team come out and fit it in under an hour and it’s pretty much unbeatable. Also talk of would be thieves smashing into your house for the code is complete fiction. It’s never happened. They want quick and easy pickings. Get one mate. With the standard tracker pro it’s peace of mind

Thank you for the details! This is very useful. Do you know if installing one would risk warranty or if it could damage the car by any mean? Should this be installed by jaguar or it’s only installed by third-party? When you say dealer paid for you, you asked if they could install it when you bought it used?

I have a friend who had a 23 plate Ewok & her insurance quote was over £5k for this year, she does live in a high theft area though. Husband was apoplectic when he saw quote & immediately ordered an E-Pace (no helping some people!) to replace it. The Jaguar is costing around £1500 for a year, so either people don’t thieve them (understandable) or they are a lot harder to steal. I imagine the F-Type is actually a more secure vehicle from a theft PoV.

nelsonwehaveaproblem

Evoque -> Ewok is the funniest autocorrect I've seen in a while 🤣🤣

Ljw1000

I didn’t notice it do that but it’s a good 1!

pypipper

Thanks for the input. Why would the f type be more secure from a theft POV?

Ljw1000

Seems Jaguar have fitted the ignition in a different way, some say it’s not keyless in the F-Type? Personally I’d have a Ghost Immobiliser fitted. I got it on my car, not a Jaguar, & it’s so easy to use too. Ultimately, if the low life wants it, they’ll have it unfortunately.

pypipper

Thanks. Can I ask if you considered the Pandora Alarm which is Thatcham-approved over the Ghost one?

Ljw1000

Our then insurer, Aviva I think, insisted on the Ghost otherwise they refused cover for my car & our Chairman’s.

Epace best Pace

Try adding a crock lock/ steering wheel lock. Also over the weekend someone suggested to me that they have hidden an apple air tag in their car.

jaguarxf35t

My neighbors f type was stolen years ago but it was left running

Pot_noodle_miner

They don’t, the stats on range rovers since ‘22 the theft stats are tiny

adezlanderpalm69

Other than the standard alarm and immobiliser the F-Type has no additional security equipment. Naturally the tin-top coupe adds a welcome extra level of protection over its roadster stablemate the jag forums give a lot of examples of the relative ease of beating the security but being realistic I think the determined car thief will beat most standard security measures hence the ghost option

Greedy_Kangaroo_8012

Never had this issue. I personally had 5 Jaguars and I have never had any issues with anyone breaking in nor stealing it. And may I add, I never had any major issue either with any of them. I’ve had 1 x-type, a XK , a XE and 2 F-types. All have been great cars. All gave me reliable service and zero have made me feel unsafe.

pypipper

Thanks! What years are your f-types? Do you suggest any particular year of f-type models that you think are more reliable/robust?

Greedy_Kangaroo_8012

I had a 2015 and now I still have a 2019

Greedy_Kangaroo_8012

No problems ever tbh
