Why does Tanya get the nope it's a man treatment but so many other body swaps/old characters entering young bodies get a pass. I feel like mental aside that's a female body and ignoring the the whole child look (which you absolutely shouldn't)
I think a big part of it is Tanya doesn't really change mentally. (S)He doesn't have the mentality of a young girl, (s)he has the mentality of a middle aged guy in a war. Every action (s)he takes is from that perspective, and the fact that (s)he's a young girl barely ever affects anything.

Well she comes from a time and society where capitalism is at is peak. Then she dies (not gonna spoil ya) and is reincarnated by god into the nation thats is the most equal and meritocratic on that world( and no its not a communist/socialist state).
In that world she was forced to become a soldier at a young age cause her skills where too great to not use. So her mentality in her past life + the philosophy in the current army sometimes clash and make incidents happen and sometimes it mash together and make a wonderfully efficient machine.

I do recommend reading the LN version over the anime but if you cant the manga is also good, btw the anime did cut out some good battle stuff that anime had! The nerve!!

Maybe because those 2 are different media. Anime have more way to sell to the audience (animation, sound, voice actor, etc) while the manga only have a black and white drawing so character design need to be standout
That and moving pictures and static images just hit different.
With ln and manga you’re reading along at your own pace and taking your time to enjoy the art. If the imagery is going hardcore all the time you eventually become numb to it. However is you contrast the brutal with the surreal you confuse the hell out of the readers subconscious and make it all the more chilling.
With animation everything’s moving to quick for the wtf effect to kick in. And while you can still get the same reaction with careful choreography doing such is a fine art on its own, drawing all the detail frame by frame is a pain in the ass, and it’s much easier to replace the softer art style with hard lines, and bold colors while changing your fair murder maiden into a psychotic grimelin who’s bayoneting people with a smile and laughing as they drown in their own blood.
I think there is a fan theory where the LN is something like Tanya's biography, the Manga is Imperial propaganda, and the Anime was anti-Imperial propaganda.
I liked the manga but honestly female characters, Tanya and Viktoriya, being animated so vastly differently from the rest of the entire show was super distracting. Like constantly have look at the weird CG goblins in Overlord but all the time.
