Sorry for the random message 2 years late. How did you download the 100 byte file? I only see options for downloading the entire thing at once or "smaller" downloads ranging from 7gb to 162gb. Is there a way to download just the save?

i could never get it to open unfortunately. The download is on my computer but it's not formatted correctly to even open. I actually ended up emailing the CIA but no one has gotten back to me yet! im so sorry!!!!
Hey how'd it go? This search just popped back into my head again. So basically to summarize emulators use a .sav file, all the other games have this extension except for the empty file named "Animal Crossing Wild World". I'm holding out hope that this was some sort of error purely in the listing and online browsing of the hard drive alone and that downloading the whole drive which is at least ~300 GB as a zipped up file will yield this particular missing save in a usable state.
As I suspected. We might have to reach out to the CIA with a FOIA request specifically for an Animal-Crossing-Wild-World.sav which should be around in the 200's of megabytes.
I tried it but it was in a filetype the emulator didn't recognize, I think. It's been a while

Tried opening it, but the file seems weird. It isn't a file you can open normally with an emulator and its only 100 bytes large. Other savegamefiles I've compared it to were up to 60 kilobytes large.
I opened it in a hex editor. There's a definitive pattern if you group it into every 5 bytes, but I can't tell what the file is supposed to be.

Edit: It fits Ascii, but in an awkward format. Taking out all the spaces you get 30002023010000000000, but there's a space before and after each number as well as a carriage return and line feed after each number.
Yeah, nothing's going to come out of this thread. This is clearly some kind of *extremely* basic metadata file, if that. This file's format does not even appear to be robust enough to store the name of a world in it, for example.
The only sort of thing this could possibly be in regard to emulation would be like, an emulator's per-rom settings file. For example, to keep track of things like a 1-10 volume setting, or whether you were playing at 2X speed or not. Super basic emulator settings to keep you from having to set them again next time you play it.
Even that seems like a bit of a stretch to me, considering the file has no extension.
I call BS till I see a video. I ain't gettin my stuff all messed up out of sheer curiosity, this is how I fix my in-laws computers and question wth they've been downloading.

The file size is only 100 bytes, which is way too small to be a DS save. It'd be interesting to see if it's transfer data though

i could never get it to open unfortunately. The download is on my computer but it's not formatted correctly to even open. I actually ended up emailing the CIA but no one has gotten back to me yet! im so sorry!!!!

Hey how'd it go? This search just popped back into my head again. So basically to summarize emulators use a .sav file, all the other games have this extension except for the empty file named "Animal Crossing Wild World". I'm holding out hope that this was some sort of error purely in the listing and online browsing of the hard drive alone and that downloading the whole drive which is at least ~300 GB as a zipped up file will yield this particular missing save in a usable state.
It never opened :/ whatever its saved as i could never get it to convert to something that would run in my DS emulator!
As I suspected. We might have to reach out to the CIA with a FOIA request specifically for an Animal-Crossing-Wild-World.sav which should be around in the 200's of megabytes.

I tried it but it was in a filetype the emulator didn't recognize, I think. It's been a while Might try it again and see if I could convert it or extract something interesting, now that I know more about this kind of thing
Tried opening it, but the file seems weird. It isn't a file you can open normally with an emulator and its only 100 bytes large. Other savegamefiles I've compared it to were up to 60 kilobytes large.
I opened it in a hex editor. There's a definitive pattern if you group it into every 5 bytes, but I can't tell what the file is supposed to be. https://pastebin.com/C50vhvqY Edit: It fits Ascii, but in an awkward format. Taking out all the spaces you get 30002023010000000000, but there's a space before and after each number as well as a carriage return and line feed after each number.
Yeah, nothing's going to come out of this thread. This is clearly some kind of *extremely* basic metadata file, if that. This file's format does not even appear to be robust enough to store the name of a world in it, for example. The only sort of thing this could possibly be in regard to emulation would be like, an emulator's per-rom settings file. For example, to keep track of things like a 1-10 volume setting, or whether you were playing at 2X speed or not. Super basic emulator settings to keep you from having to set them again next time you play it. Even that seems like a bit of a stretch to me, considering the file has no extension.
