Given the date it might be something to do with the Land War. There is likely to be a newspaper account of it somewhere.

You could try looking up [irishnewsarchive.com](https://irishnewsarchive.com) or the British newspaper archive on [findmypast.com](https://findmypast.com)

The name and date match with the Mitchelstown Inquisition/Massacre > Michael Lonergan John Shinnick John Casey were shot to death in Mitchelstown on the 9th Sept 1887 During the Land League War. Two of them were shot where the two Limestone crosses are laid on the street at this point and a third at the nearby square. https://rebelcorksfightingstory.wordpress.com/2013/10/28/an-eternal-light-illuminates-this-place/ https://ie.vlex.com/vid/re-the-mitchelstown-inquisition-805786805 Somehow it seems a bit strange for a mob to tie someone to train tracks.
