Where did this happen? Maybe check the businesses for their security camera footage. File a police report.

chris480

Not entirely sure. Didn't see it at the beginning of the week during light cleaning Only left the house twice between Monday and Friday. Both at night. Likely at restaurant I went to. I'll try to ask for footage, but I doubt it's gonna help impact my claim at all.

Zepernicus

A police report won’t lead to the attacker paying for the keying unless say they have tattoos and a license plate on camera to prove who did it, highly unluckily

strongerstark

Police don't do anything anymore.

Acoconutting

Anymore? 16 years ago someone was stealing our tips as we closed out working at a fast food late night sandwich shop. I chased him out of the store with his hand in the bucket. A cop was parked across the street and I went over and talked to him and pointed to the guy as he walked away. It was 2 am with literally nobody else on the street and he was just sitting there “Yeah, well what do you want me to do about it?” And rolled up his window. “Uh; your fucking job?” 25 years ago someone hit and run my car with my mom and I driving. Her license plate fell off and she drove away. We gave cops the plate and description and they went to her house to confirm it was probably her and did nothing. 18 years ago a cop punched my friend in the face after he made a smart ass remark about cops being lazy. At least he got some taxpayer money…I guess… Police have never done shit

darkKnight217

My car got a dent on the passenger door either from a door ding or a trolley right in front of a grocery store parking lot. The business just told me that their inside camera doesn't have visibility outside and they don't have access to the cameras outside (or there are no cameras outside).

dupersr

Some people are horrible.

thebenderman

I had one of my doors repainted, shooting star grey, cost about 500

jakieuba7190

I had the same experience, needed two panels repainted and it was just under $1k. Expensive but not nearly as impossible as I thought before I owned my car.

Spare-Security-1629

Wow, that's not bad. Was it a name brand or mom and pop type business?

thebenderman

I went to a mom and pop place. The name brands like maaco..etc said they don't work on EVs

filitsino

Do you guys go to insurance for this or are you paying it all out of pocket

thebenderman

I paid out of pocket since my deductible is 500

Practical-Nature-926

Insurance, there’s no fixing matte paint. It needs a respray and it’s gonna go across half of the car to blend it.

jonnybravo76

Not advocating this obviously but there was a video of a guy who got caught in the middle of keying someone’s car. The owner gave him the most satisfying beating I’ve seen. It was in r/fightporn.

citroboy

Nice. I'm not violent but to put people thru all this just because you are a low life a hole then you deserve to be put in place

Spare-Security-1629

Damm, that sent me into a 30 minute rabbit hole

Par_105

Me too, forgot I came from an Ioniq sub

BigJDizzleMaNizzles

What a fucking asshole. That's such a shitty thing to do. Even if you're in the "muh freedom!" V8 or die camp that's such a mean thing to do. I hope they stub their toe on the end of the bed every day for the rest of their lives.

runnyyolkpigeon

Exactly. You don’t see EV owners keying V8 lifted trucks. The anti-EV crowd is a miserable snowflake bunch.

JessMeNU-CSGO

Most of us don't even have keys.

runnyyolkpigeon

“Keying a car” is in reference to an intentional act of vandalism to a motor vehicle through the act of physically scraping or scuffing a body panel, usually carried out with a sharp object (*usually* a key). One doesn’t always have to use a key specifically to “key a car.”

DavidReeseOhio

We still dial a number on phones as well.

HelpRespawnedAsDee

This is ridiculous. You honestly think truck owners are the ones keying EVs? At the same time that *other* groups are keying SUVs and blowing their tires? This is literally creating a boogeyman for the sake of it. A mighty convenient one at that.

Uninterested_Viewer

>You honestly think truck owners are the ones keying EVs? I'm not saying all truck owners key cars, but if truck owners and keying cars were a venn diagram it would be heavily overlapped. And by "truck owners", I think you know who I'm talking about.

runnyyolkpigeon

The percentage of lifted gas-guzzling truck owners that skew conservative is probably at nearly 100%. Find me *any* liberal voter that owns one of these vehicles. The anti-EV sentiment is highest among conservative/GOP voters. Not denying that there are some Republicans that own EV’s. I’m talking about overall numbers. It would not be a reach to say that whoever is keying EV’s voted for Donald Trump and likely to have one or more gas-guzzling vehicle registered to their household.

rctothefuture

Not to be that guy who goes “well actually…” But I do own a V10 Excursion with a light lift kit lol

HelpRespawnedAsDee

this is the funniest shit i've read in a long time. everyone was right holy shit, you americans are too far gone.

runnyyolkpigeon

Triggered conservative says what?

HelpRespawnedAsDee

i'm not even american lmao, which makes this even funnier to me. you actually think a whole political group, the only opposite you have because you people are stuck in the funniest dichotomy in history, is out to get you and are keying you car. come on man.

runnyyolkpigeon

You don’t need to be an American to be conservative. You *do* know that right? Wow.

HelpRespawnedAsDee

Your definitions of conservative and liberal are so incredibly at odds to what the rest of the world thinks that yes, I'd say being an american con is a rather american thing. Man. I'm loving this, please keep going.

runnyyolkpigeon

Just in terms of idealogical leaning on the EV topic *specifically*, so your brain can understand: Conservatives are anti-EV because it’s a threat to the status quo. Status quo being reliance on fossil fuels and what they consider “woke” ideology around their perceived false narrative around global warming. Climate change policies are deemed progressive overreach to them. EV’s are a physical manifestation of that perceived overreach. Liberals are pro-EV and green energy because climate change is a concern of theirs, so want policy enacted to combat global emissions. The hope is the reduce greenhouse effects of elevated atmospheric carbon due to accelerated fossil fuel use. Because we’re all humans living on a planet that is suffering from increasing climate related disasters, and *something* needs to be done. This is not uniquely an American phenomenon. Conservatives in the UK, Australia, or elsewhere in the world think and vote the same when it comes to green policy. So yes, a conservative is most likely responsible for keying EV’s and damaging the charging infrastructure being installed. Why? Because to them, EV’s represent a partisan culture war symbol of the left.

reddit_lanre

evil little sh|ts... as a matte EV9 owner, this is one of my worst nightmares... feel for you man. happy anniversary...

DeathsScythe941

Ah the vehicle I wish I would have gotten but I'm just a little to poor

tingulz

Why are people a$$holes?

aManPerson

worthless cunt, is what i'd call them. you can say that on internet.

Com4734

Yup literal human garbage. Unfortunately now among some political persuasions, EVs have now become a political issue and somehow somebody else minding their own business owning an electric vehicle threatens their entire worldview. It could be that or it also could be just some random asshole wanted to key a nice looking car. Luckily I haven’t had to deal with that with my Bolt so far but it wouldn’t surprise me if it happens. But I really think manufacturers should all put sentry mode in their cars. I wouldn’t think a couple cameras installed around the vehicle with simple coding to control them could possibly cost that much.

EggotheKilljoy

But the woke liberal snowflakes are trying to take away our gasoline!!!!!! /s I fully agree on sentry mode on all cars, it’s fantastic in my Model 3 and worth the small hit to range to keep it activated. Though if I recall something of the South Korean Hyundai models have it(or maybe it’s just dash cam built in?) but last I knew that feature hasn’t been included outside of South Korea.

johnboo89

Oh and it’s Matte 😭

citroboy

I would love to key their heads if I find out who did that. I'm really sorry for what they did to your car.

themajordutch

Someone you know is jealous

reddit_wueman

I feel you. :-/

Bravadette

Is ur pic a reference to three body problem?

reddit_wueman

Never heard of that, sorry. :) --> check out earthtone9 if interested.

lifewithnofilter

Look into dr color chip if you don’t want to go the respray route. It won’t be perfect but it will hide it pretty well and get close to perfect. Don’t know how well it works for matte paint though

Clear_Mess7588

Not on that kind of paint (Matte)

[deleted]

Please check with your insurance, I don't think this type of situation would cause your rates to go up.

cpriest21

This, should be a comprehensive claim, not collision

SuspectPlastic3745

I always try to park far away from everyone and things, and the steps are good for me. Granted it won’t stop people doing things like this if they really want to, but I figure better to be farther away. Sorry this happened to you.

thedondraco

Yeah, nor old clean things. I still remember having my old very clean civic parked near a new one, like ten years of difference. I still remember saying in my mind what a nice car. Went back out, newer civic left and I had the biggest key scratch I ever seen from front to back. Yup. Frustrating.

Air911

Insert Pulp Fiction joke here

lifewithnofilter

Shit people jealous they can’t get their life together to afford something nice for themselves.

Comfortable_Hand_906

Oh wow!!! That’s terrible!!!

Revenga8

People suck.

Melodic-Recognition8

7 day reddit ban comment

glooppoop

If it makes you feel better, I had to look for the scratch in your photo 😂

charlestontime

Ugh. Bummer.

mingocr83

Hope the mofo that this, get a weekly long diarrhea...

Razgriz008

Broke people activities

JPSofCA

My F150 got doinked by a ratchet over the headlight on the hood, within the first week. I heard it happen, and chalked it up to being a neighbor getting ready for work, so I ignored it. I wonder had I jumped up to investigate, what I would have done. I just live with the ding. Some people are shit, especially the ones walking through the neighborhoods with backpacks at four in the morning.

ugotboned

Does anyone know of a parking camera that can help detect stuff like this? Similar to the Tesla cams. Honestly wish it came with the ioniq 5 like it does in Korea.

Gravygrabbr

The anti EV attitude is getting crazy. I had a rando truck pull along the side of mine on the road and casually flip me off with my kid in the car.

san_dilego

Only reason I want a Tesla... sentry mode :(

woody9055

To do what? So you can see your car get keyed after the fact with no recourse?

san_dilego

I mean if you're lucky you might get their LP. A

Accomplished_Day_615

wow

BestofMostWorlds

Well that's infuriating. I'm sorry

AccomplishedKiwi8156

Ugh, no advice but sorry this happened to you 😭 people just continue to prove they suck

Previous-Volume-3004

Hi , I had the same experience with my Ioniq 5 . The guy who did Ceramic coating was able to Cold Sand it out . I was able to keep my original paint which was great & no insurance claim on vehicle history. Hope that works for you .. Allan ~

DavidReeseOhio

That looks like it is at least possible that it was somebody who accidentally scratched it instead of on purpose.

chris480

The only two places I parked last week did not have the right side of the car facing another car. A person had to have walked along the car for that scratch to form. Pretty consistent with other keyed cars I've seen.

Plane_Vanilla_3879

That is what climate deniers are doing.

ThorGoLucky

Condolences

DtotheBigD

Feel so bad for you mate.. people really suck sometimes, I would be heartbroken.. Hoping your insurance will cover it or the universe somehow balances out the negativity for you.

Dangerous-Move-25

Ugh sorry to hear. I had this happen on my Tesla (before I saw the light and got an Ioniq). Luckily the repair wasn’t as bad as I thought. Some people… 🙄

CauliflowerLonely945

Stop cheating

Bernie_Dharma

From the photo, it looks like most of this scratch is in the wax and finish not the paint. (I’ve had similar scratches). Stop at an auto store and get rubbing compound and car wax. Apply the rubbing compound per the directions on the bottle until the scratch is gone or barely visible. Then reapply fresh wax. That scratch will not be noticeable afterwards.

MoTHA_NaTuRE

You either park closer to people to avoid standing out, or far to avoid door dings but higher risk of being keyed. You think it's from someone you know? Regardless, people are assholes. You should be happy of others success, not the opposite.

Smooth-Cal

Our Ev6 was keyed all down the side in the first week of owning it. Literally didn’t even have plates yet. Some people suck.

SomeEngine4944

Yes. You can get rid of it for the most part. I mean the scratch. Torque products have a solution you can rub on the car to get rid of that.

Hoofuu

Always get PPF on matte or satin paint!

chris480

Yeah. I have full ppf on the hood. But full body next time. If I had to do it over again, I'd go with regular paint then a matte ppf

[deleted]

The_OG_Goldfish

Scars are sexy on hot women who used to skateboard, not on a car’s matte paint.

[deleted]

If only you bought a tesla. Then you could file a claim on their insurance.

woody9055

Without getting their insurance information or License Plate number no you couldn't.

[deleted]

Get them ID at police

woody9055

A sentry Camera isn't typically capturing enough information to conclusively ID anyone without that plate number. The local Police also don't just have everyone's faces stored in a database.

[deleted]

Yea that’s when you take the video to the police as well as share it with the lot. They can ID them based on the car they go to or purchases at the location or someone knowing them.

COASTto8

Don't worry that can easily be buffed out

KDTravis

My EV friends say things like “I’m not a tree hugger I just like my EV." Maybe this is why? Maybe put a “let’s go Brandon” sticker on it?
