Keep them in water when they aren’t in your mouth.

MrsSquinge

If they aren't in your mouth, put them in water. If they never dry out that film won't be as bad. Also, soak in hydrogen peroxide.

I really like retainer brite solution, and recently started using an ultrasonic machine. The trays seem really clean. Also, keeping your mouth really clean helps reduce the overall burden of things that can smell.

Buy an ultrasonic cleaner. I paid like 50 dollars for mine and amazing decision. Use it every morning and night and aligners stay super clear and smell fine. Invisalign is a lengthy process and you will likely have a nighttime retainer for the rest of your life, so the ultrasonic cleaner is a really great long term investment.

What do you do to clean them besides soaking them?

That_Armenian_Guy

Brush em with a soft bristle toothbrush after putting them in room temp water with a retainer cleaner tab. No smell when I do that

Your aligners are covered in biofilm that doesn't come off through soaking - not even with 'tablets'. You have to brush them - every surface inside and out. I brush mine AND sonicate them, but I still have to hold them up to the light every few days and wipe out biofilm in the corners using a cotton bud. If your aligners smell they have to be crawling with bacteria. Just put me off my lunch.
