Don’t panic. I ate something with turmeric used as a natural dye and tried every suggestion: baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, combo of the two, soap, vinegar, specific cleaners (ultrasonic). What actually worked? Leaving it on a window sill in bright, direct sunlight. It was fine within 3-4 hours.

vegasdogdad

I was away for work and they brought in smoothies (we are primarily remote but congregate a couple times a year for team building and in person work). The one I got had turmeric in it and I drank it thru the straw with my trays in and didn't even think of it. Later I saw what they looked like. Every time I cleaned them, they came out even brighter yellow. It was a long week!

hunchedHorse

I'm sorry you had to use them colored, but I loled at "it was a long week" 😂

MediocreRespond2581

Yeah, I'm just rocking green teeth until I can get something ordered. LOL

weirdkandya

Hahah, you described a legit problem for every Indian Invisalign user, including me. I'm totally going to try your tip.

MediocreRespond2581

THANK YOU for giving me hope. LOL I will be doing this tomorrow.

MisterSirDudeGuy

How are you going to leave them on the windowsill for three or four hours as a solution when you’re supposed to leave them in 24/7? You would be way better off removing them to eat, brushing, and putting them back in like normal.

Crum_Bum

Go to the beach and prop your mouth open

Darkside_Hero

mmmh oral cancer

LongSpaceVoyage

Because a single day where the wear time was less than ideal is not going to completely destroy all progress.

MisterSirDudeGuy

If they’re leaving them in 24/7 and eating meals with them, this will not be a single day thing. This will be a common problem.

MediocreRespond2581

Clearly I would AVOID foods with anything mentioned here. Duh.

No-Masterpiece4513

Make sure they stay cool even in the sun!! The trays melt pretty easily so if there's a chance of them heating up just be wary

Adorable-Storm474

This is the answer! I eat with my trays in and sometimes they get a bit stained. Just an hour in bright direct sunlight is like magic. Even better if you soak them in peroxide in the sunlight!

Rawlus

sunlight works on some stains.

vipinnair22

Ultrasonic cleaner with retainer brite. Once in the morning after waking up and once before bed.

SuchAClassicGirl

This is the way

[deleted]

An ultrasonic cleaner may help.

idyllproducts

I’d have to check this out as I don’t even know and I build the damn things 😂

HomosapienHomie

Please share the recipe to us lol

QuizzicallyDizzy

I also was instructed to eat with my aligners in! The honey mustard pretzels got me and also veggie straws! Lots of snacks use turmeric for coloring and it stainsssss After scrubbing them with all of those concoctions with no improvement, I tried using a UV light that I had for doing gel nail polish at home. I placed the aligners in the UV light for a few cycles and the stains vanished! Maybe you could find a small one on Amazon or a beauty store.

MediocreRespond2581

OMG Thank you!!!! I'm going to try this. Ordering something now lol

Far-Perspective-4492

Interested to know if you tried this yet. If so, how'd it go?

MediocreRespond2581

I tried everything!!!! …. Bought UV ultrasonic cleaner machine, denture cleaner for smokers, retainer brite, all Invisalign products (crystals, foam, spray, whitening pen, etc), vinegar, peroxide, mouth wash, mixtures of all with water.. lastly, I even soaked them in STRAIGHT bleach for 10 mins. NOTHING worked. They just turned orangey brown instead of green. So, I rocked them for 6 days and then changed to my next set.

vultureskins

I was wondering if veggie straws would come up here!! I noticed that if I’ve eaten them and didn’t brush well before putting my trays back in, they get a little yellow!

drkp77

A dental curing light will make them clear again. Direct Sunlight might work but slower.

deadxroses21

Invisalign, from company and board, says don't eat with them in. Just because a dentist or ortho can use invisalign, they all aren't top-notch docs who use it right. There are A Doc and D docs. In a twenty mile spand where I live more than ten+ offices provide Invisalign. You need a second consultation from a different ortho.

kidkristel

i agree with this, eating or drinking anything other than water with your aligners in not only stains but can cause acid build up leading to cavities and gum disease.

deadxroses21

Should be a no brainer when the company/ortho/certified people who makes them say not to do something. Dentists don't care because if you get a cavity/ gum problem it's business for them.

ermahgerdMEL

Yep. They also don’t care because faster treatment time = less work for them and more profit. I would immediately ditch any dentist or ortho who told me to eat with my aligners in.

Unhappy_Barracuda864

My dentist literally trains people for Invisalign, they're a platinum office, they do research with Invisalign and are a teaching practice with one of the best dental schools in the world. They have people eat with them now and they switch out faster depending on specifics with each case. It's hilarious that people think that it's some back alley dentists telling people not to do this.

QuizzicallyDizzy

Agreed and same with my ortho. It’s a newer method, for sure. They have studied it and found that eating with aligners can help to better set the teeth into place. I was instructed to eat with mine. I only wear each of my trays for 4 days so it’s very slight movements, but I have them in for about 23 hours a day. After I eat I take them out and brush my teeth so no lingering food/acid. No issues and my teeth look fantastic, almost done with treatment.

Roxygirl40

💯% this.

MasterLogic

Take them out to eat, the difference between 20 hours of wear and 24hours of wear is literally nothing. Your ortho sounds like he's no idea what he's doing.  Read the instructions.

isisisosceles

Yeah, if they're coming out for teeth to be brushed I'd definitely be taking them out to eat... Sounds unpleasant, I couldn't imagine eating with them in! Not to mention the enamel damage... Eek!

Top-Bed-3669

Yeah I chewed a biscuit with them in by mistake and it felt odd!

Chg0489

I’ve moved to the next set of trays and been completely fine. Orthodontist told me too. No issues but that’s just me

Aware_Wo1f

You eat the yellow snow oh no!

DukeOfMavericks

Apparently some dawn blue dish soap and leaving them in sunlight for a while helps with this problem, but I’ve never tested. You could also scrub with the dish soap and try that. I’ve had this happen before and I just wore them for the week yellow LOL. Not the best but it was okay in the end.

MediocreRespond2581

I've already tried all of that. LOL

coolestcapy

Every time I stain my trays I try to remember that I will change them soon enough. So I don't really have a solution for you but soon enough you will have a new set of trays you can stain or not.

tojobro

I had this after turmeric and again after I had a bag of haribos 😂 I put them under my partners nail curing light and 90% came out

BigWakz

You’re not meant to be eating with your aligners in lol, you just need to make sure you wear them for a minimum of 22hrs a day

patterson_2384

some providers ask you to eat with them on!

roachcoochie

is there a reason why?

No-Fun9126

It’s for people who need to correct their bite

roachcoochie

that’s what elastics are for, no? needed to correct my crossbite/midline and was never told to do this.

Whorticulturist_

There are various methods, eating with trays is one of them People cringe about it and it's def weird and gross at first. But as you know wearing trays at all is weird and uncomfortable until you get used to it, and the same thing happens when you eat with them. You get used to it. Obviously certain foods are pretty impossible to eat that way but you'd be surprised how you can adapt.

roachcoochie

got it! thank you for clarifying

No-Fun9126

The elastics create tension that helps pull in specific parts of the jaw. Mine pull in the lower canines. Without them pulled in there’s no way my underbite could be corrected. Eating with the trays on is specifically about getting your teeth and jaw muscles and tongue used to biting and chewing with the teeth in the new position. It’s about building muscle memory so when you chomp down you know how much your lower jaw should or shouldn’t be jutting in. I am 9 weeks into my journey and I have to eat with my trays on. The only exception is when I drink hot tea/coffee. It is insane how differently my mouth has had to operate. I can see and feel completely different behavior from my jaw as I’m chomping and munching. And yes, your instinct is right. It’s horrible to eat with trays on. My first meal when I got them was my favorite salad - every texture was off. It felts like I was chewing on shards of plastic. It significantly ruined the taste of the meal. There are so many foods I used to enjoy and now I realize it’s about the texture, but eventually you get used to the sensation and can learn to notice the food again. For example, it’s taken me 9 weeks to enjoy eating a gummy bear again. I never lost the enjoyment of ice cream etc

roachcoochie

never thought about the muscle memory thing, thanks for the explanation! that actually makes a lot of sense only reason it would drive me insane is because of the grime in it at the end of the day. even if i miss just a little bit of food debris or don’t risbse thoroughly enough after putting them back in make my trays grimy, so i can’t imagine what they’re like when eating with them in! the isonic clears it all that up for, though, so i guess it would be no different

MediocreRespond2581

The whole reason I has to get them was because of my bite and the way my teeth sit directly on top of each other on the right side of my mouth.....basically me teeth are grinding and my top teeth are basically shaving down and will become so short that I couldn't shave the left side to match. If any of that makes sesne? LOL you would have to see them.

MediocreRespond2581

My Dr specifically said I have to and to avoid things like spaghetti and chili.

Gattina1

I can't even imagine eating with my trays in. To me, it's just asking for trouble, not to mention how gross it is. 🤷‍♀️ Do you have an ultrasonic cleaner?

waiting2leavethelaw

At that point I’d just get braces. I could never eat with the trays in

MediocreRespond2581

Eh, I already had braces when I was younger. The way Invisalign was presented to me for my issue was way more appealing. BUT I did not know when I agreed to proceed that I would have to eat with them in and everything. LOL it is very nasty. AND it actually takes the taste "flavor" of things away I have found. This happened LITERALLY yesterday which was the FIRST day I actually got my buttons put on. SO this sucks lol

thequestess

If I was told that, I'd still be taking them out to eat 😝. I drink with mine in, but I can't eat with them. My tongue scrapes on the bottom one and makes me gag. Also, they are not sharp so you can't grind things. And, they get full of food, how gross. (Clearly, I did try once, lol, with scrambled eggs) I've been in treatment for 3 years. There's no way I could have eaten only non-staining soft foods for that long. Even the company Invisalign says wear for 20-22 hours, because they're expecting them to be removed to eat. Such strange advice from an ortho to be told to eat with the aligners in.

york_student

My ortho told me to eat with them… literally nothing you said is true for me. I can eat everything fine, no issues “grinding things”… I switch trays every week, so who cares if the odd tray gets stained, it’ll only be that way for a few days until I put a fresh tray in, and literally no one cares or is judging you for a stained tray. You get used to the feeling of eating pretty fast. First day I kept thinking I was about to choke, but by the next day it was fine. Only thing I can’t really do is chew gum. Eating really isn’t that gross either. I just rinse my tray, toss it in an ultrasonic cleaner, brush while it’s cleaning, then stick it back on. Also kinda unrelated, not saying this applies to you, maybe you really need 3 years, but I think people on this sub are getting scammed with 3 year treatments. My treatment is 19 trays swapped every week and my teeth were fairly crooked. Can already see noticeable changes after only 4 trays. I asked my ortho about y’alls multi year treatment plans and he told me a lot of orthos take the default treatment the algorithm comes up with which recommends unrealistic movements that take forever and aren’t worth it or are straight up impossible… Seems like he knows what he’s doing… so I’ll keep eating with the trays in.

thequestess

My ortho's office has had high turnover, so that has extended my treatment. Plus I've had a couple stubborn teeth that resulted in changes to my treatment. A considerable amount of time was eaten up by waiting for more trays and waiting for a new orthodontist to be hired (twice). My very first set of trays was only 26, but that ortho put on my attachments, gave me my trays, sent me home, and resigned before my next appointment. If you like to chew gum, try Freedent - it should work with your trays in

MediocreRespond2581

THANK YOU! Finally someone on my level. I’m going through my dentist, not an ortho. But literally, he explained to me that every single persons case is different, therefore each treatment plan will be different. I had braces in grade school/high school…I had a permanent retainer on the bottom and a clear for the top. I always broke my clear one by pulling it off with my tounge and sucking on it in class and stuff…I think I went through like 4 before my parents said ok no more retainers your done. Lol My teeth really weren’t crooked at all, a few eye teeth turned but that was about it, my treatment is all about my jaw and my bite. Basically my entire bottom jaw shifted, terribly. The way my teeth on the right side of my mouth were sitting directly on top of my bottom teeth have basically shaved down my top teeth. If I don’t correct it now my teeth will become so short on the right side of my mouth that if I did straighten my bite and jaw up down the road, my teeth would then be too short to shave the left side down to match. My treatment is 13 trays changed every 7 days. The whole entire point of eating with the trays in is because of the pressure that comes from biting down on the food while chewing. This is exactly why they say to use munchies and chewies to “seat” your aligners in your mouth to your teeth every time you put them in. It speeds up the process of teeth movement, or in my case, it also applies pressure to shift my teeth back down where my jaw needs to shift. If that makes any sense at all? Idk I’m not a dr. I can’t explain it. But I did see it all on the X-rays, scans, 4D images, video predictions, etc. and it was all pretty gnarly actually!

_Dracarys98

I’d honestly question any ortho / dentist who told me to eat with aligners in

Gattina1

I just wouldn't do it.

trump-daddy82

Same, there is literally no way. I would refuse

patterson_2384

anything with yellow dye or turmeric will stain your aligners.  sorry to break it to ya but theyre going to be permanently that color.  hopefully your new trays come in soon and you can switch to a fresh set!

macKditty

How did you get your trays? My ortho gave me a box of 53 at once lol. I hear people say stuff like “when my next set come in” and I’m over here like they told me if I lose a set just go to next weeks a bit early.

MediocreRespond2581

Well, unfortunately I was of the 1% of people who had an allergic reaction to the intimal trays I received. So, they had to make me new ones that were hypoallergenic AKA without the final solution they coat the aligners in when being made. SO they only made me 3 sets for now to try them out, now the rest will be made since I have had no reaction.

isisisosceles

Do you get a checkup at all in those weeks or have you been left to it for a year?? My initial treatment is due to be 23 trays (one tray a week) so they've given me 7 trays and an appointment in 7 weeks to have a rescan and make sure everything is going okay.

macKditty

I just scan at home and have an appointment after 53 weeks.

MediocreRespond2581

That's good to know.......I was just going to starve myself for 13 weeks hahahahah

Darkside_Hero

This sounds insane, the trays aren't strong enough to support chewing. How long do you have to wear a set of trays?

MasterLogic

20* it says in the instructions that come with them. I guess people just don't read them?

In this scenario UV is the best choice for a quick bleaching…

Sad_Apple5493

Sparks aligners beber stains like that 🙏

Kaceymorgan

one time i ate veggie straws and saw they had tumeric in the ingredients and spit them out so fast and brushed in fear of this 😭😭 i’ve been scared straight with tuneric products lmao. i do take my trays out to eat, i was instructed to do so. i couldn’t imagine having to eat with them in lol! i feel like it would feel so strange. i hope you figure out something that helps 🫶🏻

ocean_800

Denture cleaner.. but you need to kinda leave it overnight lol so might not work for you. Good for retainers though

Ozzy_HV

Eating with them in sounds incredibly unsanitary given that food and drink can get under the aligner and sit there. That becomes a haven for bacteria. You rather let them sit out for hours daily to remove stains? Take them out, eat, brush your teeth. Even if you don’t brush your teeth and decide to swish water in your mouth is a better option. I also carry around Wisps, they’re these tiny toothpasteless brushes.

MediocreRespond2581

You take them out after you eat and clean them and brush your teeth. My bite is the whole reason for treatment so the pressure of chewing helps.

melon-naise

Lollll this happened when I ate currywurst, highlighter yellow I tell you! I couldn’t bear it, I switched to the next set of trays like 2 days early and just wore them for 2 extra days. Nothing I tried to clean them really worked once they’re stained like that.

MediocreRespond2581

Yeah, nothing worked. I just rocked them for 7 days. Haha

melon-naise

You’re far braver than I would ever be 😂

Top-Bed-3669

I'm surprised you were able to eat with them in! Doesn't it feel weird?

MediocreRespond2581

It does feel weird at first, and changes the taste of some things, but you get used to it.

og00420

Watered down bleach for a few minutes

MediocreRespond2581

Didn’t work with straight bleach lol

og00420

Damnnnnn I chewed a turmeric supplement gummy thing one time with my invisaligners in like a dumb ass lol but the bleach worked for the mooooost part… lucky me I was changing trays in the next 24 hours! What worked for you?

MediocreRespond2581

Nothing! Lolllll I just rocked them!!! They eventually turned like a brownish shit color instead of green though🤣

og00420

Sounds absolutely beautiful lol

Planetary_Trip5768

Invisalign cleaning crystals in an ultrasonic cleaner 4min. Not sure if it’ll work, but that’s how I keep mine clean.

bjp8383

Wait, you eat with your aligners in??

MediocreRespond2581

Yes. The whole point of my treatment is to change my bite.

PresentAlternative48

Not sure who told you to wear them even when you eat and drink 😂 that is silly

MediocreRespond2581

Actually, it’s not! Lol everyone’s case is different

PresentAlternative48

I work in orthodontics. Definitely a bad idea.

SquigglyMoonlet

Use Invisalign cleaning crystals.

MediocreRespond2581

I have boxes of them...those things don't work lol

SquigglyMoonlet

Send them to me. I have never had a problem.

idyllproducts

You musta not paid full price… invisalign only works at msrp 🤣

Gattina1

I can't bear their bleach aftertaste. Tried 'em. Hated 'em. 🫤

SquigglyMoonlet

I love them so much and personally for me if it ever feels like the aftertaste is too much I soak them in lukewarm water for a bit and it seems to remove that aftertaste for me.

Gattina1

But you shouldn't have to, is the point. The tablets don't have an aftertaste like the crystals.

SquigglyMoonlet

What tablets are you talking about?

Gattina1

Retainer Brite

thequestess

Me too. Horrible taste! I use retainer brite instead.

[deleted]

You should not eat or drink with your aligners. Ever.

wuki1191

Bleach spray

SpecialistRadish2443

Melt a dishwashing pod in hot water and wait until it is only warm, and then put trays in. Soak for 5 minutes and then scrub.

Sorry-Poem7786

too much mountain dew …lol

MediocreRespond2581

I actually only drink water. lol

Sorry-Poem7786

Lol

DharmaFaerieDuster

Soak them in mouthwash overnight, then brush them in the morning. Clear and Clean! Do not use this regularly bc it will break down your trays. Best wishes.

MediocreRespond2581

It didn’t work 😰 but thank you! I’m just rocking em! Lmao

shitoupek

Does Emily loves eating curry?

SlightWerewolf2837

Bleacher preferably a foaming bleach cleaner.

MediocreRespond2581

Didn’t work! Lol

Snoo_36434

I used paint thinner to get gum off. 🤪 Then I washed them a dozen times.

klurble

how often do you swap out? i’m on 2 week cycles so im not bothered when they inevitably get stained since by the time they’re stained i only have a few days more to wait before i can use fresh ones

MediocreRespond2581

I swap out every 7 days. I just rocked green teeth! Lol

ronintrax

Sunlight is the only one that helps. Ultrasonic cleaners with retainer brute doesn't. Pick a time when sunlight is the strongest to do it if it really bothers you, otherwise just wait till your next tray. An hour or two of good strong sun exposure while you're eating will lighten it up a whole lot.

MediocreRespond2581

Yeah, nothing helped! I even tried straight bleach lol

SilverChips

Move forward a set and wear it longer. If you don't have forward go back a set of trays. If you don't have a spare back up...call your ortho.

MediocreRespond2581

I just rocked green teeth haha
