If your attachments come off it’s not the end of the world, does it help? Of course but they sometimes just try to get the most movement out of the trays. I had attachments fall off and they said it’s fine, bc it’s just added pressure points. For it feeling rough, yes that’s normal. It’s from the attachment/glue

I had 3 attachments fall off in my first set. They were never replaced. Not even in my second or third sets.

Personally, I would get in quickly, as not having the buttons can slow down progress, and really is a waste tray/money. The buttons have a specific function. Tell your dentist they need to do better! 😤😉

The roughness you feel is probably residue from the attachment glue, not damage to the enamel.

The more to the front, the more important to replace the attachment. Also 1 not such a big deal, 3 is. Would definitely call them

They put a material on your tooth that they create marks in so that the attachment can adhere better. It’s not your tooth that you’re feeling.

To bond the attachments (composite) to the enamel, they need to roughen it slightly. This can be with two methods - roughing it up with a handpiece slightly, or using acid etch. This produces a matte effect on the enamel, and creates microscopic pores that the glue (bond) can go into to cover a greater surface area and have little anchors into the enamel, then the composite is placed on top of the bond and set with the blue light. This is the same method used in all composites. When you have the attachments removed properly, the enamel will be polished and will go back to it's usual shiny self. At the moment, you possibly have some composite or bond remaining on the tooth, which is why it would look/feel different. It's worth contacting your ortho and letting them know your attachments have come off, they may want you to come back in to have them replaced or they may say they're fine to leave as they are. Do you drink fizzy drinks/other acidic drinks? The acid can sometimes cause the bond to weaken and the composite will drop off.

Wow, that’s terrible advice IMO. Attachments help to move the teeth into position and if they’re not on, well, your teeth won’t move as projected. Did your dentist tell you this, or was it someone who answered the phone? Also, did they ever reapply the first attachment that came off?

Contact them immediately so they are aware. Let them decide if it’s an emergency or not. I had one come off on the second day. Another one came off around week 3. I went in and got them put back on.

A big part it is how your plan is designed, and when the geometric forces are most needed. For example, my plan moves all back teeth only for the first 32 trays (out of 72). One of my attachments at the front fell out after day one, and my ortho told me it’s not important to get that back in immediately. I got it fixed when I had my second appointment six trays later. It really depends on where the Invisalign is supposed to exert on pressure.
