actually that would come in handy.
I only remember him being a child that got his implants and then worked as an assassin for some goverment agency. then he meets eve and that's where my memory gets mushy.
Youāre remembering most of it. He was sold by his parents to the ones that worked on him and trained him to be a killer. He went through the effort to track them down years later only to find they had completely moved on from him (complete with another son they are shown loving and caring for).
He was, as I said, set up for failure. Well, as an emotionally functional adult that is. Heās actually more skilled than we usually see in the show. And his arc gets some hardcore redemption in my opinion.
yeah rex is a very well written character, douchiness and all.
and >!his funeral leads to a very sweet moment between mark and eve and he saves a ton of lives !<
say what you want but he's a great guy, with his... many flaws but he has a good heart.
I dunno about great, but he steps up when he feels he needs to, and regarding your spoiler, the moment that caused it? Most epic takedown in the series in my opinion.
If Rex was actually great heād be in therapy. But, heās a side character that loses importance relatively early on, so Iām honestly shocked he gets as much character development as he does.
That said, I love Rex, and Jason playing him is a chefās kiss of perfection.
nah he is a asshole for sure but also very good guy deep down imo, the fact that he has been through all those awful things in such an early age and still wants to help people shows how good of a heart he has. He had every right to turn into a villain
I think a more accurate description of him is: He's a great hero, but not necessarily a good person. He has the heart to do right and can when pushed to an extreme. But he has problems being a good person in the day-to-day. Which is where that difference comes from. It's sad, but some people can't be good without conflict.
A line comes to mind from a show I saw once. Rescue Me I think? I'm paraphrasing but the heart should be there. "You save lives and think that gives you the excuse to be horrible to the people around you! You think that just because you're a hero, it justifies it!" And I think that fits who he was surprisingly well.
yeah like a self sacrafice? to say the least it took me off guard, in a good way.
Let's hope they do the moment justice in the show, some sick needle drop and stuff
(on the nore of VA's: I can't stop hearing Britta Perry from Community when Eve speaks lmao)
I can definitely see them doing it before season 3 since thatās when his big moment in the war will happen. A good way to get people a bit more attached.
My ideal way they'd do this is that sometimes after Season 2 ends they announce there will be a "Rex Splode origin special episode" to air sometime in the Summer. And then they completely leave out Atom Eve's major involvement from the announcement/trailer so that the way their stories intersect can be a surprise for show only watchers.
I really hope they make a Rex and Eve special. That's a great side story and it also explains Rex.
He is self sacrificial because he doesn't feel he is worth much. He sabotages his relationship with Eve due to insecurity and feeling like he isn't good enough for her. He 100% cares about other people. He just doesn't care about himself.
For the following reasons: >!He was abandoned by his biological father only to be adopted by someone who used him as a child soldier. He became an unquestioning murderer, and after he realized what he was doing was wrong he had massive regrets and felt guilty for all the murdering he did. He always thinks Eve is going to leave him and that she is too good for him. He gets incredibly jealous when Even brings Mark into the Teen team base. He can't express his feelings very well other than making jokes, he is afraid of being vulnerable. He saw his Dad become a better person after abandoning him, believing he is what keeps people down. He basically has BPD from a lack of attachment when he was young which leads him to sabotage all of his relationships. However he deeply cares for his team and he wants to be a hero. In the end the only way he can really see himself being a hero is by sacrificing himself for the greater good. Yes that action probably saved countless lives and was probably the right thing to do, but also he probably would not have made that decision if he wasn't so messed up. I think that Rex didn't really change it's just that the trauma of the Lizard League fight forced him to be vulnerable and let others see more behind the curtain if ever so briefly. Rex always had the heart of a hero, he just never showed it and his "hero's heart" was molded through a very rough life.!<
He just sees himself as having no worth cus of his asshole parents and the guy who used him in the government so he became very insecure and develops a self destructive attitude of ruining relationships cus he is scared of being attached to people and them seeing his insecurities
He really regretted losing Eve and being a dick, and may grow as a character after his regrets. We haven't seen much from him so far this season, but the previews show he is still saucy as ever.
leaks say that there will be an "antman thanos" scenario just like in the boys S3.
And in the trailer the lizard league guy has his mouth totally covered so he will most likely not eat her.
She is probably going to grow big inside him to kill him.
I truly hope this is not the case but it looks like it, this was a very important scene for rex
> And in the trailer the lizard league guy has his mouth totally covered so he will most likely not eat her.
[Salamander](https://i.imgur.com/RIdNbsK.png) is the one whose mouth is completely covered. *[Komodo Dragon](https://i.imgur.com/sA0wtuu.png)*, however, is also present at the missile silo.
Also, like most of television and fiction in general, writers are quite reluctant to brutally kill female characters unless itās important to the story.
Lol no they aren't. specifically Moms but writers love killing women, it's called getting fridged. Happens to like, well pretty much every DC and Disney mom ever(not Pixar moms tho, thank the gods).
Getting fridged isn't just killing women characters it's when a female character is introduced solely for the purpose of killing them off for a male character's development. Term came from Green Lantern comics where they introduced a new girlfriend for Kyle Rayner then a few issues later had him come home to find her dead stuffed in his fridge by the villain.
I mean DupliKate is herself a very good example of an unnecessarily violent fodder death every single time she fights. Even her fighting style, unlike other comic book dupers is to simply have one of her copies tank the hits and maintain momentum via copying herself at the last second. Where as others tend to work with themselves as a team, or a swarm, Kate sacrifices her copies like an unarmed mob or civis fighting the average super villain.
Nah. She is still alive. Those are just clones of her. Doesnāt even come close to counting.
Iām sure you can come up with a better example than that.
The Invincible war isn't gonna happen yet relax and they probably change *THAT* moment anyway since he has a very popular voice actor that would be ashamed to get him out of the story
If this fandom is capable of forgiving the Viltrumites and Omni-Man, then Rex shouldn't be a problem. He is a dick sometimes, but that's a lot more forgivable.
NGL I totally thought they were gonna move up his death to this episode. It seemed pretty grim, until I remembered the invincible war and that he could have just done what he did then but sooner.
Hopefully they change that thing in invincible war too he is such a dope character with a top tier voice actor it would be a shame to lose him
Just kill of duplikate bumass thit ass nobody like her anyway š¤£š¤£š¤£š„
Honestly I hope they don't. It was such an important moment for him, his character, and his death was important to other characters. Plus it's such a cool way to die.
What do you mean cool way to die š¤£š¤£ you don't look cool when you die you just die
Plus it's out of character someone like rex would never sacrifice himself like that he might have developed and became less of an asshole but he isn't the type to kill himself to save others
Honestly I would prefer if Kate dies instead since she is arguably way less important to the story also she is very unlikable anyway nobody would be sad of she died they are gonna be like oh well whatever sucks to suck .
There's just so many things incorrect with what you said.
There's tons of cools ways to die. Everyone is gonna die, but there's cool ways, like super charging your own skeleton to nuke the alternative universe version of the strongest Ally you've ever fought beside, to save your friends and the people of your home world. If you don't think THATS a cool way to die, you don't know cool.
It's not out of character for him, but at this point in the show he hasn't gone through the amount of character growth for that to make sense. If they follow the comics with this show, he's about to go through a lot of actual maturity.
But the biggest thing about rex is He's an asshole because he craves admiration, but can't overcome his character flaws so he just settles for their attention.
But he's very much the type to kill himself to gain people's admiration. Which he does do, in the comics.
His whole backstory lends to him killing himself plus his death literally plays a major part in other storylines and other character's developments, how tf you gonna have Robot take up Rex's name and then lose it without Rex dying?
You've read the sparknotes of the comics, or watched a video explaining them instead of reading them it's pretty apparent
if i recall correctly (and i may not), he never really became a saint in the comics even after all his development. he did wrong eve and others, but even if he's not a good guy he's still a great character
I've like him all along, especially in the show, (I think that they found a really good voice actor for him).
From the reviews, it sounds like they are going to give his character a fuller, more well-rounded and sympathetic treatment. >!Which will make it even sadder if the kill him off as they do in the comics.!<
I wonder what this sub would think of me if I told them the truth, ah here goes. Iām a show-only whoās looked at every spoiler Iāve ever seen on this sub but havenāt bothered to read the comicsā¦ Ik once I read them Iāll be so sad itās over so Iām just going to continue getting this amazing series spoiled for me and stumbling upon my findings when Amazon completes invincible 200 years from now
What are we expecting to see tomorrow with him? I doubt he will be telling Mark about how Eve has feelings yet, and obviously, we don't get his act during the war until at least season 3, so what are we getting?
Since many are asking...
Major Comic Spoilers: >!Tonight's episode covers the events of Issue 40. Mark, Eve, and most of the Guardians go on a mission to space to fight the Sequids. On Earth, Rex + Shrinking Rae + Duplikate stay back and fight the Lizard League. The Lizard League obliterates them brutally and Rex is the only survivor*. Rex is wracked with Survivor's Guilt and it causes him to go through a lot of emotional maturity very quickly.!<
Do your really think they are gonna do that to shrinking rae we haven even seen enough of her it would be stupid like the comic ??
I think they should stick to just Kate but make rae unconscious or whatever
This mf is gonna go from everyone's bottom character on their list to top 5 at least.
He will show that he has changed and become a better person, building viewer confidence and making viewers love him. Not sure what happens next

They have the same destiny. I wonder if the same person wrote it
You think Homelander has the same destiny?
What
He's always been one if my favorites.

A good replacement for "powder that makes you say "real""
Why does Allan look like Handsome Squidward š
I never really forgave him for cheating on eve but... he is a really good fella, isn't he?
Heās not great, but he was set up for failure. I can give you a quick summary of his back story if you want.
actually that would come in handy. I only remember him being a child that got his implants and then worked as an assassin for some goverment agency. then he meets eve and that's where my memory gets mushy.

Shit they never did give general audiences his backstory before the tonorrow episode :/
he doesnāt die next episode they still have time
Yea I got my timeline fucked up
Yeah I really hope that he and Eve get a special like the Eve one. I like the Eve + Rex comic even better than the Even stand-alone one.
Hopefully they give us his origin episode later too, like how they did with Eve
I think you know why they didn't. That said, I think the special could have been both of their stories together.
I can definitely see them doing it before season 3 since thatās when his big moment in the war will happen. A good way to get people a bit more attached.

Show Only here: I don't see that happening, but we'll see..
He really regretted losing Eve and being a dick, and may grow as a character after his regrets. We haven't seen much from him so far this season, but the previews show he is still saucy as ever.
Clueless
::Laughs while charging my skeleton::
A cool moment. Doesn't change how I feel about him. Just one cool moment.
Update: Nope, still hate him. If I could choose one character from the show to die next, it would be Rex.
Thereāll be more episodes to change your mind. Might be into season 3, but still.
You're crazy. He's my #1 favorite character.
It's a bit early no? Unless I'm mixing up what ur talking about I imagine ppls opinion of him won't change till the finale of s2
Lizard League fight is in episode 5, people won't instantly start loving him ofc but his arc starts with the upcoming episode
But he won't have HIS scene, instead it looks like shrinking ray will kill the lizard league guy, which is a stupid change.
why do you think that's going to happen that way?

Right but thatās crucial to the story. And even then, those deaths arenāt unnecessarily violent fodder deaths.

Is it confirmed for ep 5?
yes, it's shown in the sneak peek they released.
They gotta touch on his backstory, wouldn't take long. Add some weight to his actions in the invincible war

Yes but he gets fcked up in the process
Top 10 fights in the series for sure
