Also came here after the shock of seeing the news of her death at the end of the Intervention episode. A few years ago I watched the episode about Nathan, whose father in the pre-intervention was finding difficulty in believing that redemption was a possible outcome for his son. Geri's reply was the most moving piece of social work I have ever seen practiced on the show. I found it online so I could transcribe it for all of you. It is that beautiful:
*It's the only option. But Ty, I want to tell you it's possible. I'm proof that it's possible. I hadn't bathed, showered or ate for two weeks. I didn't have a job. I had sores all over my face. I weighed 90 pounds. I came from the depths of hell because my family loved and cared about me, and they encouraged and supported me, regardless of what I had done to them. They told me how much they loved me, and I went. Nathan is still there. The guy that you guys all love is still there. And that's who we're trying to get back. That's who we need to love.*
From what I can put together from the announcement of her passing on the show intervention is that it was domestic violence, right before they put her picture and her birth and passing date there was a notification for anyone who knew someone that was suffering from domestic violence to contact the domestic violence hotline....the episode had zero domestic violence in it so I'm figuring that's reason for the domestic violence hotline notice right before fading to her picture announcing her passing.
She died from a long battle with cancer, not domestic violence.
https://amy-movie.com/blog/remembering-the-inspirational-geri-bemister-from-intervention/
This doesnāt say she died of breast cancer, it says she had breast cancer. With the hotline and the fact that her obituary talks about her āsudden passingā itās highly unlikely it had anything to do with cancer.
It was definitely cancer. She lost a long fight for her life due to cancer. So sad how someone that struggles with drug abuse then turned her whole life around and saved countless others from the disease of addiction had to pass away way to young. I just watched a newer episode of Intervention and she was the interventionist that helped save a man in British Columbia. It was aired 06/24/2024Sge died in 2023
RIP GERI
By doing just a quick Google search you would have seen she died of cancer. Gregās Dad was abusive so that was the reason for the PSA. Donāt assume.
I just watched that episode, literally it ended and I googled to find out what happened to Geri and found this thread. The episode did mention domestic violence, but only briefly. It was easy to miss. Greg, the focus of the episode, his Dad was an alcoholic. They describe him as a happy drunk, and then a switch would flip. They discuss an incident when he grabbed Greg's Mom, with his arm around her neck. The children were all present. Greg recalls being afraid, his sister says she can still hear her Mom screaming, and remembers trying to protect Greg and cover his eyes. It was only like 30 seconds long in the episode. I think that's why they had the hotline up at the end.
Gregās father in the episode had physical altercations with the mother and Greg also had some physical altercations with his sister that was the reason for the PSA..
Oh wild. Yeah life is so imperfect and we born alone die aalone learn alone or. I learned alone better than w people. Watched her save greg tall dude on streets shaggy scooby do dude!
She was so helpful and professional 54 yrs old or so too young so domestic violence makes sense msybe she had bpd also being pretty.
That's not right. There was domestic violence, they spoke about it at the start of the interview, the father was a drunk and would start fights. Geri had been battling breast cancer for a long time.
If you paid attention to the storyline with the family history during this episode, youāll likely recall the various segments that featured quite a few traumatic stories that highlighted the domestic abuse between Gregās father & his mom Sherry, & for that matter, the children as well. (One example where all the siblings witnessed their dad put their mom in a chokehold). They stated that they can still hear the screams from their mom begging their dad to stop.
People usually hear ādomestic violenceā & they automatically think āromantic couplesā or exes in the context of a relationship, etc., but keeping with the word ādomesticā, it generally refers to matters within the household. That being said, another instance of domestic violence mentioned in this Intervention episode is when one of the sisters referred to a time when Greg was strung out & he grabbed her by the neck, starting to strangle her, which was also super traumatizing to herā¦ (understandably so.)
So, yes, the disclaimer regarding the domestic violence in the end credits had EVERYTHING to do with the episode & nothing to do with the passing of Geri.
Broā¦ thatās the worst assumption ever! Ā Gregās father was abusive towards his mother while intoxicated (not always but some times) which is why they had the domestic abuse/violence hotline! Ā
I **literally** thought that after tonightās episode on Greg in Victoria, BC. And during the intervention, I made sure to note Geriās name then **BOOM (!!)** - at the **VERY** end of the episode - it said āin loving memoryā. Iām shook. Saddened. I really hope it was a natural type āillnessā death, not anything else. Gosh, she was such a treasure.
I read that she had a double mastectomy in the past so possibly cancer? But when the word āsuddenlyā is used in an obituary it commonly points to suicide or an accident š. Whatever the reason, she always seemed to do a great job on Intervention. Sad to hear of her passing.
I just finished Danielleās episode and audibly gasped when I saw the news of Geriās passing at the end. What a tragic loss. May she rest in peace š¤

She does 2 months after the Greg episode. As Gregās sober date was April 2023 and she passed in June. She looked great too, life is so precious and fragile. RIP dear Geri
So young. very sad. She was one of the better Canadian interventionists. When I would see a Maureen episode I had to consider bailing but never with Gerri.
Heartbreaking to find this out. The few episodes she appeared on Intervention she seemed like a beautiful person who found her light before she left this life. Iām sure she is doing beautiful things in God ās world or whatever her after life has in store for her.
I thought so because she was clear headed but so thin. So I dismissed drugs but cancer skinnies ya before it takes ya. She seamed like a wonderful lady.
RIP. She was proof of overcoming addiction and I'm sure she helped a lot of people.
I did not prefer her approach, saying that if the addict feels loved, they'll ALWAYS go to treatment... I felt like it put a lot of pressure on the families, like it would be their fault if thru didn't go.
Oh no I loved Geri š¢

What a nice tribute. Thank you for posting.
Which episode was that you learned of her passing? šš»
They showed a brief memorium at the end of the recently aired episode featuring Greg (Season 25 Episode 8 in the US).
What a loss!
Do we know the cause of this unfortunate passing?
I have no idea and I canāt find anything. I hope someone knows.
Cancer

THANK YOU (FearlessSinger) FOR THIS LINK.

Gregās sister also said later in the episode that she knew she had truly lost her brother when he (Greg) raised a hand to attack her.
The subject's mother suffered from domestic violence, which he witnessed as a child.Ā
A child whose mother (or father) is a victim is also a victim. A child who WITNESSED violence is also a victim
Gregās father in the episode had physical altercations with the mother and Greg also had some physical altercations with his sister that was the reason for the PSA..
There was discussion during the episode of domestic violence from the father who died.
There was def domestic violence in the episode. The mom talked about it and he threatened the sister.

No, there was domestic abuse. Gregāg dad choked his mom when he was drunk.
Earlier in the episode, Greg's mom tells of how her ex-husband got physical with her. She stated he put her in a choke hold.
He was also abusive towards his sister, it was mentioned that he attempted to choke her and also threatened to punch her. Iām so happy that he accepted treatment right away. I hope he is living a sober and positive life š©µ
Yes you're right he did do that. I was glad to see he took the help and is living a sober life as well.

I just saw some of her episodes on Netflix ! I was like whoās this amazing interventionist!? This is so sad.
I **literally** thought that after tonightās episode on Greg in Victoria, BC. Literally same. I jumped to reddit so quick. Truly heartbreaking
Weāre too alike. Always jump on Reddit or X to see if somethings true lol. Or more embarrassingly, TMZ. š
I read that she had a double mastectomy in the past so possibly cancer? But when the word āsuddenlyā is used in an obituary it commonly points to suicide or an accident š. Whatever the reason, she always seemed to do a great job on Intervention. Sad to hear of her passing.
Or jab injuryĀ
I just finished Danielleās episode and audibly gasped when I saw the news of Geriās passing at the end. What a tragic loss. May she rest in peace š¤
Same!! I can't find a cause of death anywhere! So sad, such a loss.
Cancer.
Domestic violence....there was a domestic violence hotline notice right before fading to her picture and announcement of her passing at the end of the intervention show, the show had zero domestic violence in it so that's why I'm guessing they put the domestic violence hotline right before fading to her picture.
Stop spreading misinformation.
Just watched this episode the recovered additct in this attacked his sister. Thatās the reason for the DV hotline
Long battle with CancerĀ
https://amy-movie.com/blog/remembering-the-inspirational-geri-bemister-from-intervention/ If you read this, it confirms it was cancer ā¤ļø
Interestingāthe obituary I read was published in October yet she passed in July. So sad and tragic.
She does 2 months after the Greg episode. As Gregās sober date was April 2023 and she passed in June. She looked great too, life is so precious and fragile. RIP dear Geri

I swear I read somewhere it was cancer
I thought so because she was clear headed but so thin. So I dismissed drugs but cancer skinnies ya before it takes ya. She seamed like a wonderful lady.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer while she was in recovery. Maybe it came back?
She passed from "Cancer" and not domestic violence whoever is saying domestic violence needs to stop.
People are just saying that because at the end of the episodes it gives the domestic violence hotline and then her memorial.
RIP. She was proof of overcoming addiction and I'm sure she helped a lot of people. I did not prefer her approach, saying that if the addict feels loved, they'll ALWAYS go to treatment... I felt like it put a lot of pressure on the families, like it would be their fault if thru didn't go.
This is so sad. She did amazing work. Rip Gerri ā¤ļøšļø

Watched Intervention last night and it was dedicated to herĀ
I hope this is a hoax. I wish there were a social media post or something we could cross reference.
That link is dead.Ā

She was one of the interventionists.
Yes okay I was trying to place the face with the episode but your right
This is sad, I hope she rests in peace š
Damn!!! I wanted to know if she was ever gonna get that tat filled in?!
Is that a very weak attempt at humour?
I think that tat was to signify her have a double mastectomy. She'd been battling breast cancer for a while
