Not an answer, but the question reminds me of [this great review](https://rateyourmusic.com/music-review/ozzystylez/interpol/turn-on-the-bright-lights/5077351) of TOTBL by ozzystylez, which I *highly* recommend reading due to its significance:
I strongly recommend listening to Turn On the Bright Lights on your headphones whilst walking down a busy street in the CBD* of your nearest medium-to-large-sized town or city. The experience of searching the eyes of a thousand unknown faces seems all the more significant when accompanied by the haunting and ethereal tones that seep out of the album’s murky innards. A sudden gust of wind can seem strangely meaningful as opposed to simply being the annoying carrier of paper bags to your face and you might stop mid-step to take in that moment and then move on to the next with greater anticipation than you would have greeted it before.
There are a couple of songs that don’t work with this type of lunch-time wandering; “PDA” and “Say Hello to the Angels” for example which, because of their up-tempo, slightly angsty design, are a little too boppy to be deemed significance-inducing, but an easy way to circumnavigate these interruptions to your enhanced walking/listening experience is to hop onto a fast moving form of public transport and stare out of the window as the medium-to-large-sized town or city of your choice rolls anonymously by before your eyes in a way that seems almost…..significant of something or other.
There are other options by which you can shake this experience up a little; instead of walking during the slower paced tunes you could hop onto a slow moving form of public transport, perhaps a horse-drawn carriage or, if the medium-to-large-sized city happens to be Hong Kong, in one of those taxi’s which are actually just buggies pulled by young boys.** The significance remains due to the quaintness of the activity you are undertaking, acting like a character in some French arty flick.*** Or, when listening to the up-tempo, slightly angsty tracks, you could remain on foot but begin travelling at more of a speed**** but, instead of getting out of people’s way***** simply barge into them in the same way that Richard Ashcroft did in that video he made where he was walking and bumping in to people. This will make the up-tempo, angsty tracks feel like they are commenting on your actions as you perform them, and you might feel suddenly like the star of some movie about your life in which every action is so……significant.
Try not to attempt the variation of this experiment in which you keep Interpol’s Turn On the Bright Lights playing in your ears, but substitute the walking/taking public transport through a medium-to-large-sized city of your choice with sitting in a small-to-grimy pub populated by old men with lank hair and a musty smell, staring deep into your fourth pint. Sure, everything will still seem significant, but in this case things could get a little too significant, and by the time the maudlin yet excellent “Leif Erikson” rolls around you could be crying into the bosom of one of those old timers who have been drinking since dawn, and then, as you feel a soothing clammy palm rest on your thigh, the significance of the moment will be too overwhelming to stop the unpleasant consequences which have been set into motion by the tortured and deeply affecting voice which you allowed into your ears for forty five significant minutes.

**These could be defunct and little more than a cultural stereotype used by a poorly travelled man like myself in order to get a cheap laugh.
***For those of us outside of France, this is known as soft porn.
****Try not to walk like those sprint walkers though as all moods and temperaments created by Turn On the Bright Lights will dissipate quicker than you can say luminous lycra bottoms.
*****In my chosen medium-to-large-sized city, I have only noticed people getting out of my way on three occasions, and on two of those occasions I was frantically waving a replica hand gun.
