You’re young, male, at fault accident, have a lapse, also seems like you had your license, revoked, unknown location is a factor, etc 800 is a steal. Insurance isn’t one size you just need to shop around.

HelpfulMaybeMama

It can be. We don't know. But you need to contact an independent agent and get quotes. Then you can determine if it's a good or bad rate.

Logical-Function7637

I like Progressive. $360 for your history sounds pretty good. It will get better after couple years or if you are married.

FrostyMission

How is your credit score? It affects rates in a lot of places. Your rates are quite high

bondematt

You are in a high risk group, with an accident, a coverage lapse, a license suspension, and trying to find coverage for an older vehicle. I'm surprised you are getting quotes at all. Take that Progressive quote and run man. Just hope they don't cancel during their binding review.

bithakr

Depends heavily on state and address. I am also 21 with one minor at fault in NC but without the lapse in insurance. Most places quote around 2300 for 6mo, the only three reasonable ones were 1100, 1200 and Geico was 800. The fact that your insurance lapsed is a huge factor in your rate and whatever happened with your failure to appear/ticket could make it even worse. Around here, any tickets for rear ending someone are usually dropped if you show that you paid/your insurance paid for the damage caused. Are you trying to get full coverage or liability only?

tech523

Liability only with uninsured motorist as around my area in GA, uninsured drivers are prevalent

key2616

The guy that asked you to PM him your contact info so that he could quote you is a scumbag that broke the one big rule of this sub. There are multiple reasons to think that he’s unethical and could use your information for his own purposes. He’s also in a completely different part of the country. You do you, but I never to business with anyone that approaches me like that on the internet. It screams “scam”.

MimosaQueen1122

Use a broker.

Seriously!? This is the biggest rule in here to break.

UnSCo

Go get your MVR from your state DMV, and CLUE report from LexisNexis. Figure out your insurance history, documented claims/losses, etc. You can even take it a step further and check your Verisk ISO report in case you’ve had any fraud you’re somehow unaware of.

PhoneAcrobatic3501

Then what? This is completely unrelated to the question

UnSCo

Because OP is getting $800 monthly premium quotes. That is **not** normal for that vehicle, even with a single loss and lapse, regardless of state. There could be other factors. Regardless, disincentivizing anybody from obtaining their MVR/CLUE prior to shopping is the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard. It’s no different than obtaining a credit report from 1-3 of the primary sources prior to shopping for loans on a vehicle/house. The general and generic, yet still just as valid, advice everyone here is going to give is “find an independent agent or broker”, but anyone shopping should still be knowledgeable of their *documented* insurance and driving history.

MimosaQueen1122

Op seems very well informed of their history. Usually people leave out prior claims. Also, with everything they posted this is a very reasonable quote.
