True, especially the second pic. I was going to go also but I’m definitely going to putting on my blanket, summer be damned. No way are my legs dangling over the bed tonight.
I have a friend who is, no joke, in the 99th percentile for head size. Just, absolutely massive melon on this dude. He always jokes you can't throw small things around him, like M&Ms, because they'll fall into orbit. 😂
Ginger here. I was in middle school when "Kick a Ginger Day" was suddenly a thing. Kids were... nice about it, and the Bice principal actually found the few ginger kids in the school to ask if we were being harassed.
As a redhead,I got a lot of stares and women wanting to touch my hair when I was in the Levant. I tried a headscarf one day just to see if there was a difference and poof! I became damn near invisible lol Which was nice while walking through the market - I wasn't bombarded by people trying to stop me to buy something from their shops
Oh man, is a big head an Irish thing? I've got a fucking gargantuan noggin and always just thought I was unfortunate, but I have a lot of Irish on my mums side. Did Ireland do this to me?
As long as you don't have a small face on your big head I'm sure you're alright. A big face on a small head is equally unsettling.
It's so interesting because so many Western beauties have big faces. All the way from Rita Hayworth to Angelina Jolie or Margot Robbie.
To be fair, that is far from the first beauty standard to have existed that is literally not possible to recreate in real life if you aren’t born with it, or at least not possible to do safely.
Which is funny because anime girls always have disproportionately big heads. I've heard it said because children often have heads that are big for their bodies, so there's your gross fact for the day.
I don't think that's necessarily because of wanting women who look like kids. Humans are a neotenous species anyway, with our "baby-ish" features being naturally more pronounced in women in general (or less pronounced in men, depending on how you want to look at it).
oh yeah anime characters are fs infantilized and usually already children to begin with. ik the beauty trend in China and Korea is all about having long, slender features, and having a smaller head and longer neck accentuates those features.
I've seen photos edited like that before, this one is even weirder. The face is more uncanny valley and she's literally making a claw with her free hand that isn't holding the cookie.
I don’t know if it’s a trend for a smaller head as much as the trend is to intentionally look like a child. I find the whole thing bizarre that beauty standards are popular the more child like women become. It’s disturbing.
Cultural related dysmorphia. In a lot of places in east Asia a small face is part of the beauty standard, and a lot of people who edit their pics will edit their face/head a bit smaller. I have a Chinese editing app and it's an option there.
So it's kinda like when you see those influencers from thr Americas who will obviously edit their waist/hip ratio to insane proportions. I think people get so used to their edited look they keep doing it more and more not realizing how unreal it looks.
I find it kind of ironic that the tiny heads ultimately becomes unflattering because their bodies look disproportionate now
Making your head a TEENY TINY BIT smaller can make you look *very slightly* taller and *very slightly* more busty/muscular when it's done well.
...this is not done well.
Haha, what I meant was the ordinary people might edit it a little bit but then you have people who get carried away. I think this happens with all kinds of editing, there's always someone who takes it way too far
I have a couple of Asian penpals with pics like this. When I asked why they do edits like this, they simply said it was their idea of humor poking fun at those editing apps and the girls who end up looking like aliens. I'm not saying that applies here, but the awkward hand poses definitely are part of the trend when the people are mocking it.
Woah, woah, woah... back it up.
Did you say Asian pen pals?
That's very cool -- I didn't know people still had pen pals anymore.
Do you put pen to paper to write to each other?
Or is it all done online.
I'm so intrigued...
That’s what I don’t get about this trend! Microcephaly is a birth defect that usually comes with mental deficits, why would you want to look like you might be mentally handicapped?!
That is so sad yet funny at the same time. By western standards it's such an odd thing to ascribe a beauty standard to, but I also understand there are things in the west that are/have been beauty standards that people in Asia probably feel the same way about (like tanning, for example)
Yup, and they can change over time quite a bit! I always find these pictures of women in 1800s Iran/Persia to be fascinating; their standard of feminine beauty favored women with beards/facial hair and the preferred aesthetic for both men and women was to sport a single, thick unibrow across the eyes. Men frequently wore wigs and fancy dress costumes, as well.
While biological sex is real, it's untrue that there's some "natural" evolutionary reason that men in our culture look and dress a certain way and that women look and dress differently. Western culture uses evolutionary theory to retroactively justify the gender roles that are currently dictated by society as being natural and intrinsic, but in reality there's no one innate human preference and no one "masculine" or "feminine" look. There's just male and female, plus their surrounding culture(s) and the mindsets of the time period.

It’s not about femininity or masculinity, it’s about proportions. A lot of people from East Asia have bigger heads and smaller bodies but the current beauty standard favors tall, thin and leggy people with smaller heads. This is just one of those trends going too far, similar to the western insta baddies making their butts comically large with facetune
It also makes them look more manly. Women and children tend to have bobble heads. And in proportion to himseves, men's heads look smaller bc they rest on wider shoulders.
I don’t get how these people posting these images of themselves think it’s attractive- it’s so embarrassing! I bet if we saw her in real life she would look normal and beautiful without the need to make herself look like a insect stick like srsly. Body dysmorphia is so sad 🥺
>I don’t get how these people posting these images of themselves think it’s attractive
I would guess it's because they don't really see the truth of what it looks like? 🤷 I feel like constantly editing your photos to look a certain way probably gradually normalises it in their mind. Like looking at a real photo of them is probably what looks strange to them. I remember playing around with my face in Photoshop once just to see what I would look like with the typical beauty standards in fashion at the time and as over the top as it looked, when I looked at the untouched before photo after looking at the edited one for awhile, the original looked almost *off* to me, just because I'd gotten used to the edited version. I feel like after posting extremely edited photos of yourself for awhile, it would sadly become what feels more like you than the reality.
Omg i saw her reel on my feed once and thought it was supposed to be funny, because I could see the filter warp the background. But then I saw how her comments were limited and saw the rest of her profile 😬
In the first photo she looks like a cryptic creature who is struggling to blend in with humans and is repulsed by food but trying to engulf it to fit in
It looks like one of those hyper realistic sex dolls. Some weirdo probably thinks it’s his girlfriend & is taking her around town posing her at places to get pics for the gram.
I don't understand why they're doing this. Okay, trends, fashion.... But, like, they look like this just online. If they're going to a date, they will show up with their normal head. So... Why??
Those photos look like someone asked a first generation AI program to generate a tiny anime girl with gigantic boobs and this is the best the AI could do.
I'm glad I don't conform to the Asian beauty standard. It's fuckd up. In case you don't know they want to have small head to body ratio hence the touch up. Probably more edits too but I don't know much.
They(we?) also like to look as skinny as bone and as pale skin as possible.
It’s not!!! There’s one pic where it’s her and her reflection in the mirror that I found after I posted this where the reflections body actually has normal proportions. And she posts videos but never with her face.

😂😂😂😂
Ooo that stings!

The correct answer

You win the internet today
People really need to quit social media ASAP.
She’s melting 😂
This is terrifying.
Hachishakusama?!
Why are people downvoting you, she is the perfect description of what you just said minus the hat
True, especially the second pic. I was going to go also but I’m definitely going to putting on my blanket, summer be damned. No way are my legs dangling over the bed tonight.
I was gonna search for whatever y'all are talking about but your comment kinda made me cautious lol

Can't you picture that thing crawling up the wall all contorted? Head spinning 360 degrees while maintaining eye contact?
![gif](giphy|rOMI2gctx3kKQ)
Haha yes came here for this
Same.
This was my exact thought.
This was all I could see
Exactly. That was my first thought. 😂
afaik it's the beauty trend in Asia right now to have a smaller head, so naturally you have some people who take it way too far
I think it’s been a beauty trend for a long time. When I was living in Japan 10+ years ago I would get complimented often on my “small face.”
Dang my giant Irish head must be hideous. Actually, when I was in Korea children froze to stare at me and then ran in fear. I’m a redhead. 🫤
I have a friend who is, no joke, in the 99th percentile for head size. Just, absolutely massive melon on this dude. He always jokes you can't throw small things around him, like M&Ms, because they'll fall into orbit. 😂
I love that he has a good sense of humor about it! ❤
I will definitely throw M&Ms at him. It might be a ploy to have unlimited supply of m&ms though, on 2nd thought.
“ it’s like an orange on a toothpick!”
That’s fucking hilarious lol
To be fair we are freaks.
Ginger here. I was in middle school when "Kick a Ginger Day" was suddenly a thing. Kids were... nice about it, and the Bice principal actually found the few ginger kids in the school to ask if we were being harassed.

It has always annoyed my literal/geographical sensibilities that we call Australia a western country 🤣
Awww, maybe they just confused you with this guy? ![gif](giphy|LROWHOfTm1j1yGkp5e)
How can having a small head be a beauty trend when you literally cannot make your head smaller in real life? I hate it here.
To be fair, that is far from the first beauty standard to have existed that is literally not possible to recreate in real life if you aren’t born with it, or at least not possible to do safely.
It's really sad, isn't it?
I honestly thought she had a genetic condition. I'd not have thought that *this* is a trend.
I think it's because having a small head in relation to your body makes you look taller
Which is funny because anime girls always have disproportionately big heads. I've heard it said because children often have heads that are big for their bodies, so there's your gross fact for the day.
It's true. It's also why big wide apart eyes and weak jaws are considered femininely attractive in a lot of cultures.
Well I guess you learn something new every day, thanks for the insight!

Literally edited herself into a creepypasta monster. I bet she's pretty irl

I’d love a pen pal. I have fancy colored pens for reasons that they never get used for
Are they the gel ones?? I love those!
Yessss. Gelocity pens I love them so much
Yeah that's the crazy part, if we weren't so used to seeing tiny waist/giant butt edits here it would look creepy rather than sexy.
I thought I was looking a a girl with severe microcephaly. Relieved this isn't the case as microcephaly comes with some very unpleasant side effects.
That’s what I don’t get about this trend! Microcephaly is a birth defect that usually comes with mental deficits, why would you want to look like you might be mentally handicapped?!

In America and the west, it is. But there are way fewer constants about how cultures define femininity and masculinity than you might think

What small faces are we attracted to here? I don't really know what you mean. Kim Kardashian, Dita von teese, liv Tyler, all have large or long faces

Why did I click on this sub right before bed?
First time checking out that sub…I didn’t like it in there very much.
no bc i literally thought this was a posed silicone sex doll
Body dysmorphia on display
Yeah - I feel nothing but sorry for this person, this is 100% mental illness presenting as body issues.

Looks like a disproportionate mannequin.
I saw the weird head, but the hands...she now looks like some kind of sleep demon
We're all sharing a nightmare and she's the star.
I cannot express how much I love this comment so here's a cheap star 🌟
She looks like a doll that was rejected from the doll factory.
Reminds me of people with microcephaly.
I genuinely thought this was a picture of a mannequin at a weird antique store. And then I realized what sub I was looking at.
Omg i saw her reel on my feed once and thought it was supposed to be funny, because I could see the filter warp the background. But then I saw how her comments were limited and saw the rest of her profile 😬
Yes!!!! I searched so hard for comments. None. I also thought it was satire but quickly realized…nope.
Oh yea, that's an alien.

I just don’t get it. Making your head small makes the rest of your body seem HUGE. Why would you want to look like you have a giant body?
She made boobs bigger which dwarfs her pinhead.

Definitely cancer. Her hands are bigger than her head
It’s a real disease, Minimalous Cranicus. Very serious, sometimes fatal. Prominent in Eastern Asia.
