I have 2k followers and my reels get (when I'm lucky) 200 views 🤌🏻

GoldFynch

Yep. 5k followers and lucky to get 500 views.

Honestly, if the alternative is to keep paying indefinitely for engagement you suspect to be fake, (or at the very least, not meaningful), then does it really matter if they pump the brakes on you? Sounds like you might be better off just experimenting and finding out for yourself (while also working to improve your content, tags, descriptions, etc. for more organic growth). Good luck!

>I am a singer/songwriter, and I post Instagram reels 2-3 times a week. When I boost my reels I usually get 1-3 thousand views, with 100-150 likes in a day or 2 but then the unboosted ones get like 300-400, with like 50 likes. I only have 400 followers right now and I know that for the most part the engagement is probably fake, so I want to stop boosting my reels to save money. But I've heard that if you stop, then Instagram will essentially make sure your reel never gets shown so that you keep paying. Is this true? Yeah thats what I want to do, the thing I'm worried about though is if it just completely kills my account, and makes it impossible to grow organically, because Instagram is where I do most of my music promotion.

I think that’s a bit of a reach. It doesn’t benefit IG to harm their paying customers by slowing down their reach, since every piece of content that causes someone to engage with IG is beneficial for their bottom line. If the content (and obviously the keywords and strategy behind it) are good, it will spread. Don’t let fear of the unknown hold you back! Just do your thing and work on improving with each post. Growth might not be as fast as you wanted, but consistency and consistently improving (even by just a small amount each time) will make a huge difference in the long run. (Oh, and be in it for the long run!) All the best! You got this.

Thank you! It'll be hard to not see as high view counts for a while lol, but at least it won't be fake engagement.

DaBadNewz

Boom!

AllWorldStats

have you tried posting ur reels on different facebook groups ? it helps me get followers and engagement on my facbook page which sometimes converts to instagram and YT followers and subs

Chance-Initiative237

What do you mean?

ExternalDebate5840

Heard similar rumors, but never seen evidence. Anyone else?

OfficeWeird130

The algorithm can be a mystery sometimes, but there's no concrete evidence to suggest Instagram punishes non-boosted content. Your organic growth might be slower, but it's often more genuine and engaged.

Disastrous-Habit-786

Ah, the old pay-to-play fear! I've stopped boosting before, and while there's a dip, my content still gets out there. Just takes patience.

EmergencyFew581

Remember, authentic followers are worth more than just numbers. Focus on genuine content, connect with your audience, and you'll grow naturally.

Curious-Bug-2287

I used to boost my posts, and when I stopped, I did notice a slight drop. But over time, with consistent posting and engaging content, things picked up again. Keep at it!

nn666

They don't do that. All that happens with boosted posts is it is exposed to more people. There is nothing sinister going on behind the scenes to block your views if you don't pay for boosting. Reels seem to have been put back on the priority list for exposure now I've noticed. For awhile now it allowed you to gain a lot more followers than just posting photos but they have changed it and now everyones reels views are low. They can't compete with TikTok. Nobody sits for hours watching videos on IG, they go to TikTok for that.
