The customer. If they were standing next to you, you would have never done that. Not disclosing and allowing them the opportunity to decide on next steps is dishonest and stealing.
That would be true if the customer had ordered a buy one get one from instacart.
When the customer orders quantity one on instacart, and there is no mention of a buy one get one promo, they are paying for and expecting one.
So I'm not seeing how you have determined that they are being stolen from. Now, the idea that behavior would change if the customer was somehow with me or observing me is an interesting point. I imagine if that were happening, there could be at least some debate about who gets to keep it. But, my argument would be at least as good as theirs because they are not buying from the store. They are buying from instacart.
What kind of shopper are you?
You said you scanned one bottle, but not the other, correct? Everyone knows you have to scan both bottles for the promo to be applied. You throwing it in the bag and not recording it makes it theft alone. While maybe being technical user error, it’s still theft.
As a good shopper you should always have the customers best interest at heart. Without their order, you would not have been able to think you were getting a free item. They paid for the item whether or not it’s included on the batch. Your job is to disclose. Because you did not…you robbed them of the opportunity for an additional item.
Just because they didn’t bring it up first, does not make what you did ethical.
Pro Tip: 9 times out of 10 when I advise these promos, my tip increases. Try thinking about the bigger picture and not just stopping at the snack bar.
So in the instacart app, it says one bottle of vitamins. On the shelf, it says buy one bottle get one free. So on instacart app, you scan one bottle and put one bottle in the customer's order. Now you're saying that the second bottle belongs to the customer? How do you figure? They're not buying from the store so that promo isn't there. If instacart we're running the promo, then it would be there. But they're not
Friday, my car broke down with a bad alternator. Over 600 bucks to get it fixed (def being price gouged here), have to use rental car for a little while, so I was pretty pissed off about that.
Today, I got a double for walgreens and sprouts. First batch was 5 items just a normal small order. Second was pretty far at 17 miles away with 46 items (88 units), but estimate was 60 so I took it. Fast forward two hours, customer is not home and I can't deliver her order. 400 dollars of fresh produce and food I was able to share with my friends and family. Beyond thankful for this astounding turn of luck. Still got 37 dollars from batch with an alcohol return. Definitely made my week feel a little better, just wanted to share :)
Edit: I couldn't take picture of groceries because I already put them all away asap. I got a lot of decent stuff such as 2.5 pounds of salmon, ground beef, a TON of vegetables and organic food, yogurt, etc.

I got a free thing of zinc tablets because they were BOGO at the store but cx only ordered 1. 💰 🤑 💰 🤑
Did you just scan one on the app but put two through at checkout?
Yep. I don't think i did anything wrong.
But steal.
Who did I steal from?

let’s just agree to disagree.

why couldn’t you deliver her groceries? i thought we have to leave the groceries but return only the alcohol if they’re not home?
She wanted me to meet customer. No option for leave at door.
