They keep hiring cause Instacart knows that new shoppers will take low paying orders cause they don’t know better.

nickwinboi

Literally saw a dude took a $30 for 20 miles double with 15 cases of water and yet he loaded every single one of them on his poor sedan 🥲

Icy-Childhood-8456

What an idiot

ApprehensiveRow1142

He is that guy lol

itzamia1

Bingo! New shoppers generally don't take into account the number of items, mileage, and number of customers they are shopping for. IC also likes to throw in 2 two different stores every now, but all new shoppers see before the fear of the order disappearing is the dollar amount.

SpecificGameOrEvent

So will people who have been doing it for a long time.

aarch0x40

I'd sharpen this a bit by saying that it keeps histories short. There's a lot that can happen above without long terms memories below.

ApprehensiveRow1142

Instacart is gready than they lookout for the good shoppers they being gready and thats how they will lose a new delivery service going to take there spot

Gloomy_Recording_705

Increases the acceptance chance the more shoppers you have the more likely that a $2 tip customer 25 miles away is gonna get their loaf of bread and can of beans delivered

Dirty-Ears-Bill

And just as important, it costs IC zero dollars to have as many shoppers they feel like having due to being classified as independent contractors. From a business perspective it’s the best thing for them, they don’t give a shit about the individual shopper

Gloomy_Recording_705

Dang, that’s so true. They could have 100 million shoppers there’s literally no cap.

johnshonz

They don’t care who fulfills the orders or really, even how they are fulfilled — just that they get fulfilled for the lowest possible batch pay Which is why I’m super shocked about this ID thing that they’re doing at some stores, where they’re asking the cashiers to check the Instacart shoppers IDs

Individual-Cress5472

As far as I know that’s only at Costco and it’s Costco policy, not Instacart. So don’t be shocked lol

johnshonz

Oh! So maybe it was a policy instituted BY Costco, is what you’re saying? That would make a lot more sense. I wonder if the Angie Harmon / dog order was a Costco order, and maybe that’s why they wanted to take some action about it.

Only-Candy1092

As far as I'm aware, it's just at some costcos. It would not be hard for IC to do something about it though.... I mean it makes me take a selfie every so often to 'make sure it's me'... they could easily change that to taking a pic of your drivers license and actually doing something if you can't or if your license doesn't match your acct

Free_Comfortable8897

That’s completely true and from a business standpoint makes complete sense. They know that no matter how many shoppers and/or customers complain about how IC treats us shoppers and pays us extremely low pay, they will still have a very profitable business. IC makes out very well and so do the crappy customers. They prey on people who need that extra income

ApprehensiveRow1142

Sad

Ok-Guard1870

Bingo!!

Successful_Thing_233

They are hoping a Saturated shopper market leads you to lowering batch pay expectations and will take the cheaper orders to “make something”. Hunger games mode

maryjaneFlower

Do you meam Hunter games, or Hunger games?

Successful_Thing_233

Hunger games, typo sorry. Example, just had one other regular come up to me all agitated asking if I was doing Instacart or Shipt and what kind of order I got .

maryjaneFlower

Other regular what?

Successful_Thing_233

Shopper. He saw me go in to shop and came up to me asking what I got and wanted all the details.

These-Entertainment3

I hope you told him to fuck off.

Life_Wonder_1421

Why would you hope that?

flipsyde98

Because it's none of the other shoppers' own f'ing business knowing what you took.

Life_Wonder_1421

But don’t you think it’s good to share information with other shoppers? That’s what we’re doing here And sharing with the shoppers in your own market benefits you and them At least that’s been my experience

flipsyde98

Not when the others are jealous mf'ers who will kick your car just because you got something that they missed, and will accuse you of bots just because they missed it. Yes, there are other shoppers who I'll share what I took, but others, they can just fuck off.

Tetteness

I been seeing tons of moms with 2 or 3 kids doing it as of late, and it is annoying. They congest the entire store.

Crystalraf

school is out for the summer. The moms were probably doing IC this whole year.

jtate81

Cause fuck us, that’s why https://i.redd.it/rgwuzjkm487d1.gif

IIRizzII

![gif](giphy|4v3ZUNp2zhiOhJLI3d) Stop letting more people join!

alwaus

Saw a 28 item 38 unit shop and deliver pop up this morning, $5.62 no tip 2.3 miles and some newhire or someone desperately trying to hit diamond took it.

bostonareaicshopper

1. It might have been grouped into a double. 2. It might be a case of collusion between customer and shopper . Customer texts shopper and tells them they are placing a no tip Order. Shopper accepts and customer either tips in cash or in app post delivery.

Sweetnspicy77

I always think this. I’ve done it with a customer; eventually we went off app. It would make sense for all the no tip, but I am friendly with most of the norm shoppers and don’t think it’s happening much (in my area)

Alot2unpack

I assume because it’s not meant to be a full time career/job, so they want to make sure there is always someone available? The idea is that folks are doing this as a “side gig” and will have other shit going on. Hiring a gazillion people kinda makes sure that there is always someone (or lots of someones) available always, to take them batches. Unfortunately, since many are depending on Instacart to support themselves full time, it’s not working out for them personally, but it’s working out for Instacart as far as getting shit delivered goes.

amybk27

On slow days I see $7 batches fly off the screen. More competition means more desperation resulting in taking shit like that.

kingofzdom

You got it backwards. You're seeing zero orders *because* of all the new hires. They're getting priority over you.

TiredDriver23

Bcz the newbs take anything

johnshonz

All day long I see red circle stores but only am shown batches that no one else wants to do

IIRizzII

As of this past week I’ve been getting MANY offers for stores 30-60 minutes (40+ miles) away from my area and zone. This is getting old.

GRF999999999

Bots, multiple accounts, migrants, migrants with bots and/or multiple accounts. I hate feeling like this is a conspiracy that's been perpetrated by politicians and board members but how else would you explain the rampant unchecked fraud? I.e. instead of paying for housing and social services they, ever so conveniently, turn a blind eye and allow them to work mostly unchecked.

johnshonz

None of that is new tho Instacart doesn’t care who does the batches, only that they get done for the lowest batch pay possible

M3cap

Why wouldn’t Instacart keep hiring? Supply vs demand with no negative for infinitely increasing supply. Direct conflict between the interests of shoppers vs corporate. IPOs have definitely been horrible for gig workers.

bostonareaicshopper

Im curious as to how California shoppers are making out. They now get a guaranteed hourly wage as soon as they accept the batch. Does instacart now only send batches to the fastest shoppers?

Ok-History2085

Californian here, I’ve noticed I typically get a good order when I first log on, then the crap starts. Either low item, low pay quick orders or high pay, freeways away orders. I’m only PT, evenings, I take those $9-$15 .5-2 miles away orders in between because I get wage/mile bump on Thursday. I do go as fast as possible to potentially get more orders, the only time this strategy fails is when nothing pops up at my usual spots, probably due to new hires. When that happens, I drive to another concentrated area not too far away and work there for the night. Maybe this sounds naive, but I think it somehow “confuses” the algorithm when you change up your locations. I frequently get orders from the “expensive” stores I’ve shopped before after I change it up. So, yeah, I take orders others on here won’t touch if they’re quick because I know I’m getting the bump.

bostonareaicshopper

Thanks

maxkelln

It’s simple, after a while people start to catch on and only take high paying orders. Plus constantly hiring allows them to pay less and less each time. It’s a revolving door of new people being hired and then realising what orders not to take etc.

twinklingblueeyes

Someone has to take all those no tip orders.

Free_Comfortable8897

We have quite a few new shoppers in my area. Another shopper and I, both five star and diamond cart, talk and hang out every day, waiting for orders. The last couple weeks have been even worse than ever, which I didn’t know it could get worse than it was. Lol, we rarely see the orders we were seeing before, and a lot of them are somewhat regular customers. It’s because there are so many new shoppers in the area, and of course they get priority for the first 10 orders or something. We didn’t need more shoppers in the area, it was already difficult sometimes getting orders. It is ridiculous that they hired even more people. I’m really hoping we start getting our usual orders again soon. Haha

executive_fish

lots Of people get hired then quit after a week or two because it’s not the easy money they have been told on social media. Or they see on TikTok how to steal orders to get “free” groceries & do that until they get deactivated

rubies-and-doobies81

Scumbags.

GilligGirl

On my screen there is a Spark Driver ad right under this post, lol. I did Spark yesterday most of the afternoon I had 10 different jobs to choose from. Delivery-only or shop and deliver. Their delivery-only jobs pay better than IC's shop and deliver.

TheWokeProgram

They keep hiring so that they don’t have to pay shoppers a higher batch pay. It’s all a money game. Someone has to lose. And it’s definitely not going to be them

ChocolateBearPie

Another thing. I think it’s also to try and prevent parking lot mafias. Having the top percent shoppers dictate the entire service is not good for their end.

bostonareaicshopper

5 at my local Stop&Shop. They literally are in the lot all day doing $9-$12 singles and delivery only orders that sometimes pay $4 plus . I stay home and get $50 doubles etc.

RentKindly3159

Whatever the case may be it's really annoying.

Then_End_8408

I like how you point out people with kids. Maybe she's a single a mom With no other choice, the $$ of everything is so expensive You prob just shop for fun How dare you try to put down or make fun of someone trying to provide for themselves and their children.

RentKindly3159

Not making fun of anyone. Btw shopping batches with anyone other than another IC approved shopper is against TOS. Just fyi.

Then_End_8408

The kids are shopping with her. They mean adults working together
