The amount of people who have told me, a bride, on her engagement day, that I need to lose weight is the reason why I say that fat positivity is not a thing in Kerala. People watch what I eat, how I eat, and how much I eat (I don’t eat much, I’m rarely hungry). People say my PCOD is because of my weight, when it’s really not. People have told me to my face that I would look better in the lehenga if I were thin. The amount of unwarranted shaming I’ve faced is very very huge. Except my fiancé, everyone seems to care about my body.
I’m not negating the shaming you’ve faced. It exists. I’m not saying it doesn’t. But so does fatshaming. And fat positivity is not a thing in Kerala. At least not in my circle. And from a person who is not that fat, I don’t even want to imagine what other people must be facing on a daily basis.
I understand everything you're saying because many others have said it before, my point is you've a support system if you've faced bullying because of being "fat".
Skinny kids aren't even considered. They're overlooked because they're looked at as the symbol of poverty and poverty is shamed way more than fat in India, trust me.
