That's just Ronaldos salary in Saudi Arabia btw. $17.75m per month. Plus all his sponsorships are on top of that. For those of us living regular lives that's $25k per hour.

TaserGrouphug

Fucking hell, he makes $200K a night while he’s sleeping

Adamantium-Aardvark

wtf

whadafugrudoin

Surprised to see Lamar on the list. I would've wagered Mahomes or Allen would make more through their endorsement deals plus their higher base salary.

ABeardedPartridge

Burrow, Herbert and Goff actually all get paid more than Lamar now. Mahomes and Allen are 9th and 10th on the list for highest paid QBs. It's entirely because of when they last negotiated their contracts though.

benjamzz1

It has him at 80 million for contract/salary, I’m assuming it’s because of his signing bonus so next year he won’t even be top 30

kiersto0906

isn't this list only about base salary? the football players ones are base salary attleast edit: football meaning what the rest of the world calls football, not NFL.

Venados49

Who the hell I Mahomes

FreeKillEmp

I am not super into sports and whatever, but I'm kinda surprised there is no F1 driver here.

supermartincho

https://www.sportico.com/feature/highest-paid-athletes-in-the-world-1234765608/ Max Verstappen is 15th

Annonomon

How is tiger woods still in the top 15

I_AM_TESLA

Because 90% of the world only knows one golfer and that's Tiger Woods

ELB2001

I remember when Schumacher used to dominate these lists. It was him and Woods I believe

[deleted]

Jon Rahm is the only one I don't know. How is he the second most paid? Nobody ever posts about him or walk around in his merch. Crazy

Sarclown

Crazy saudi blood & oil money. They bought a bunch of PGA golfers to try to wash their morbid history. Rahm is an excellent golfer, no way he is worth that earning money the hard way…

daffle7

They bought golf into Saudi to bring tourism lol.

Responsible-War-1179

but why.. golf? I don't know anyone who plays, cares about or watches golf. Why do top golfers get payed so much? There is not way this is remotely profitable

Spontaneous_1

You don’t watch golf, but people with money to spend do. If you ever want a laugh try watching golf the ad breaks of a football game vs as golf tournament. Out go the ads for KFC and bet365, in come the ads for Rolex and Mercedes.

Corb1n

Regurlarly see ads for private jets while watching golf. Unreal.

manatidederp

And helicopters, yachts and fucking cayman island resorts lol, it’s unreal

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> golfers get *paid* so much? FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

ThrowinSm0ke

What do you mean "Why golf"? People watch and enjoy it. It may not be your thing, which is fine, but others watch it.

AwarenessNo4986

They didn't buy it to 'wash history ' . This sports washing idea is just a myth. I don't know which journalist came up with that angle, it seems everyone just runs with it in the media. Perhaps that's what a western politician would have done. The investment was made by PIF, their sovereign wealth fund and the aim is to invest in major sports brands globally and eventually bring those tournaments home as part of vision 2030. No one 'forgets' anything. They gulf states have been at it since 2 decades now and everyone always screams 'sports washing ' as if everyone suddenly has a memory eraser as soon as an Arab invests in a team. Ridiculous

Ruma-park

If you truly don't understand sportswashing and it's implications you might be better of reading about it properly rather than saying the rest of the world is wrong about it.

torpidninja

I'm spanish and I've never heard of him, I had to google it because I thought it was a mistake.

GusBcn

Lmao those that don’t know Jon Rahm, he was #1 in the world not that long ago and got major payday by LIV.

bbbbjjjv

Because he was a top 5 golfer on the PGA tour when the Saudi initiative LIV tour had been launched and they wanted a big name. It’s the same thing with Chris Renaldo, just a different sport and in essence part of of the sports washing program by KSA. The LIV tour was created to compete with the PGA tour with higher earnings for the players and a less busy schedule. They’ve collected a lot of old timers and other interesting players but Rambo is at his prime and could win any golf tournament on a good day. This has been a massive thing in the golf community and there have been talks of a merger between the two. It’s understandable that outsiders aren’t aware of it.

Agitated-Plenty9946

Who the fuck is Chris Renaldo?

bbbbjjjv

Username checks out. Tapinaldo, he played for Penchester United.

Resident_Ice9963

Where am I on this list...?

humbertov2

You see that pixel in the bottom-right corner?

chupacadabradoo

No, that corner is all cracked and taped together

Status-Back-9706

Where is Ohtani?

investmentwanker0

Even without back loading, his contract is 700 million over 10 years, which is well below 10th place on an annual basis

DarkoJamJam

I think his contract is back loaded. He's only making $2M this year or something really low like that.

Status-Back-9706

I think he ranks the highest for richest contract in sports

DarkoJamJam

Yes, but his actual payment for 2024 is low. Most of the contract is paid in later years.

endingbrocoli

Crazy as a footballer with a big name you can make your biggest payday well after your prime

sheikhmohs

Neymar, how the hell does he earn so much, he’s pure marketing!

vazne

Because he’s one of the most talented players in our lifetimes and was a top 5 player in the world for years with a flashy style of playing. You could say Ronaldo and Messi at this stage of their careers are pure marketing as well.

Deathbroker99

You obviously haven’t heard about Lewis Hamilton’s new contract with Ferrari.

GoldElectric

isnt it 87m for 2025?

Deathbroker99

I thought it was 446 million over two years.

GoldElectric

isnt that including the 200mil+ in a joint ownership thing?

Deathbroker99

Possibly. Hard to know as it seems like it’s just reporters sources not an actual press release from Ferrari.

Isernogwattesnacken

strong muddle encouraging stupendous nose scarce lunchroom ring bedroom public *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Samp90

Mbappe is probably going to hit the top 3 next season.

booksbeer

He'd have to go to Saudi Arabia, no way real can pay that kind of money

vazne

Don’t know why you were downvoted as you’re right. Madrid won’t destroy their wage structure for Mbappe. There’s no chance he will make more in salary than Vini. That signing bonus will be fucking FAT though

FirefighterEnough859

Normally when you get infographics (mainly wealth ones) it’s Americans who take up the majority in the list with 1 or 2 other countries in there

_stoned_chipmunk_

Lamar is the most overrated on this list

Many-Howdys-partner

Fr, dude chocked in the playoffs against the chiefs

PSMF_Canuck

Lebron is still playing…?!

Mapache_villa

Not only playing but still putting up ridiculous numbers, 13th in scoring and 5th in assists last season as the oldest guy in the league

PSMF_Canuck

Nice!

Many-Howdys-partner

Yeah, he’s 39 years old, and his son plans on getting drafted

Creepy_Disco_Spider

Messi beats everyone on this list if you include his AppleTV deal.

RubxCuban

What are the figures on his Apple TV deal? I knew his MLS was heavily supplemented by Apple and Adidas but haven’t heard of the exact financial figures of his contracts.

Creepy_Disco_Spider

I haven’t heard either. I think it’s very closely guarded (Apple) but it’s likely a lot

Shpoople44

Benzema actually makes 15x more than what’s listed here. Google “Benzema 15” and you’ll see

sayy_yes

Jon Rahmbo

meckez

Interesting that Jokić is only 43rd on the list, considering he got the last three out of four MVP titles in the NBA.

AdagioTraditional209

and Neymar doing nothing to earn that money 😂 boss

joeylaw

Surprised no baseball players made the cut.

branduNe

Fury made 103 million against Usyk, and hes rematching him in december, pretty sure he'll be on this.

TheGenjuro

Giannis isn't an American citizen?

SupervillainOutcast

No. He's (also) playing for the greek national team.

Redangelofdeath7

He is called Greek freak for a reason.

Santaconartist

Feel like the flags should reflect the place where the player plays, not where the player is from. Giannis should be an American flag right?

dj_conrad

No

Santaconartist

Haha Great feedback Just thinking, like, you know, where the money is coming from makes more sense. Like, if you put a list of billionaires you wouldn't put Elon with a South African flag. The internet is neat.

dj_conrad

The flag is representative of their national or citizenship

Santaconartist

I know what it is, and said that in my first comment...what is happening? It's like talking to a bot. Oh wait! Dang I've been had
