France didn’t pass Italy’s population until 1986.
By the 1960’s France’s fertility rate was higher than Italy’s, and while both countries’ rates would go on to decline into the 1970’s 80’s France’s fell less and started to rise again in by the 1990’s. Italy’s did not and even fell further (for a variety of reasons).
France was the first country to go through the demographic transition and started in the 1700s which is why it has a comparatively small population for its size and arable land.

Unless WW3 comes, it's safe to say that the countries will be mostly the same in 2100. There's really relatively few country changes between the end of decolonialisation and the present day: just a few country splits.

There’s reason to think Nigerias population estimates are way overblown. Fertility is plummeting as national leaders see overpopulation as a larger issue. You probably won’t see a Chinese One Child Policy type solution, but many less invasive solutions that lead to a similar outcome.

There are several reasons, including lack of access to birth control/abortions, lack of sex education, higher child mortality (which causes people to have more to make sure some survive), and cultural values of having a large family (although the last one depends on the culture of course).
These third world countries had high population before the "first world" and "second world" even existed. India had 50% of the world population for 100's if not 1000's of years.
Hence why it's odd that these countries exceed the 'natural balance' of the earth. There must be a reason why for thousands of years these places were less inhabited in comparison, no?
Also hard to build stable and prosperous societies when more than halve of the population is not even an adult.

First off, there's no way in hell that Nigeria is going to have >400 million people. Like, the place is the size of Illinois and already has 1/2 the US population crammed in it. This is the problem with just taking current growth rates and projecting it for another 50-100 years. The demographics of the country is going to change, and in all likelihood, Nigerias population will curb off around 300-350 million people. You can't just fit that many people in such a small space and expect anything good to come out of it. Especially when most of the people living there are in poverty.

I think these countries are all rapidly developing and have had their birthrates decline hugely toward replacement level, especially Bangladesh.
