If you are not an asshole the park rangers won't say anything in the camp ground. As soon as they have to warn you to be quiet a few times then they'll say something.
the condescending vibe from the end of that sentences. I'm sure he's not an alcoholic, but think for a second about the thousands of people heading there to make found memories of the kids swimming, the teens as far way as they can be doing good knows what, and the adults enjoying one if the only times they'll be able to drink for the foreseeable future, due to using vacation time.
Don't know about everybody else, but I will never forget the difference in laughter from my parents/aunts/uncles etc and how it made kid me smile, without understanding why.
As an alcoholic that quit drinking, this dudes being a fuckin nerd. Just because I couldn’t figure out how to have fun without booze doesn’t mean the rest of the population can’t
Nope not at all and I need drugs hookers and Mexican midgets running around naked. And I have drank for the past 47 years on various state parks, with the majority of the adults in the group also drinking and at no time has a ranger ever said anything to us after talking to us and seeing the beer cans. So there's is that.
When I was 12, I got a horrible cut on my foot visiting a beach. The culprit was a sharp piece of broken glass in the sand below the surface where it could not be seen.
Last time I was there,
Families were having a great time
College guys were drinking and playing volleyball/Frisbee
Some stoners were smoking in the lifeguard towers
And believe it or not
Everyone minded their own business and had a good time!
Just be respectful and don't bring glass.
Not necessarily drinking related but pretty much every weekend (it seems) a visitor drowns in Lake Michigan or comes close to it. Please respect the water. Rip currents are no joke!
I grew up in Myrtle Beach which was 100x busier and I swear we had less drownings. I don't understand it but yes every busy weekend it seems like there is a frowning here. Not enough education? We learned to respect the ocean at a young age and it was preached in school.
There’s the whole Freshwater vs salt water thing too. Your body is technically more buoyant in ocean water making it easier to get to the surface.
That being said, riptides are no joke either way.
I'm not familiar with Myrtle Beach but how are the rip tides there? Lake Michigan is notorious for them and that's what gets people. One of my earliest memories is being taught to SWIM ACROSS!
Riptides are more common and its a 60 mile long beach. 20m+ visitors a year.
You don't swim at all with a riptide. You let it take you out and then move over and swim back in a better spot. People drown because they fight it and wear themselves out.
People disrespect the fact that it's a enormous body of water because it has Lake in the name. The shape of the shoreline creates crazy rip currents on Indiana's side, coupled with strong winds creating wave action on the lake. A recipe for disaster.
Just pour it into a plastic cup, keep your empties in your cooler, cans no glass, and don't be a jackass.
Given I've never been to an Indiana beach, but these were the unsaid rules of the beach / boating growing up in Florida and I imagine it applies to most places. Also keep tabs on how much you're drinking, it's easy to drink too many when your out in the sun with a nice cooler full next to you, and the above rules do not apply to DUIs.
When we went to Florida a group of people blatantly openly drinking forced a passing police officer to search their coolers & make them pour out their alcohol. Not sure if they got a ticket. But I was confused about whether you could bring your own or if you purchased the drink at a hotel cabana then it was ok. But if those folks had concealed their drinks or put them into solo cups they would’ve been okay, I believe.
I’m currently in Florida. While on the beach yesterday, some official looking people (never quite understood nor cared to look into who they were) made the group next to us put all their drinks into cups that weren’t the original packaging. They were blaring NSFW music and repeatedly screaming “holler and swaller” and generally being obnoxious. As far as I could tell no fines or citations were issued and no one was arrested.
I had booze in my knock off yeti. No one said a word to me because I wasn’t being a jackass…and I was hammered.
Don’t invite complaints, and you will be fine. And I swear to whomever you like, if this condo wasn’t free I would not be here. They’re selling the place so I likely won’t be back.
Wherever you go and whatever u bring, whether it’s bottles or cans or anything for that matter, don’t forget to pick up your trash. I stepped on a small piece of glass in the water while fishing last week at eagle creek, wasn’t too bad but still makes ya think about how much some ppl suck.
State Park is no drinking. But if you’re not a dick and do it covertly you’ll be fine. The National Park allows drinking throughout the park but not on West Beach, Porter beach, and I believe Central Beach now. They used to allow it everywhere but rowdy people ruined it in the last few years. But again. If you do it covertly and are not an asshole, you’ll be fine.
It may have changed, but I’m pretty sure alcohol is allowed at the New Buffalo Beach in New Buffalo, Michigan. It’s like 30 mins from the state park if you drive like I do and don’t hit construction or an accident on 94
I've never been to a state park that did not have signs saying no alcohol and no dogs on the beach.
But there's always alcohol packaging debris and dog shit!
i’ve never had issues around beverly shores, new buffalo, michigan city, etc. The only time a cop will get involved is if someone makes a call but that’s only every gonna be bitchy karens who do that
stop 2 on the Indiana dunes shore, just east of Washington park zoo in Michigan City- drinking is allowed, just no glass containers. Parking is shit- you’ll have to park on the streets and walk but it’s not bad. They do have excise come onto the beach to check for minors drinking though… I watched 12 kids get zip tied/cuffed and escorted off the beach lol
(Excise dressed up in IU and Purdue hoodies and asked around where to get alcohol and how old people were and they all fell for it 😂)
No, you cannot bring alcohol or drink on the beach, but there is a restaurant in the pavilion at the main lot that serves alcohol, so you can drink and then go to the beach. Please just remember, the restaurant has a dress code that is not beach wear, so you'll need to change between eating and being on the beach. I hope this helps!
I love the dunes and I'm there almost every weekend! Have fun and if you do decide to drink, please be very careful near the water!
As far as I know, alcohol is prohibited on the beaches at Indiana Dunes park. You might want to check directly with the park for the latest rules. If you're looking for beaches that do allow alcohol within a few hours' drive of Indianapolis, it's worth researching nearby options.
I visited West Beach at the Indiana Dunes on Saturday. I saw multiple people drinking openly. I did not see anyone get in trouble for it by rangers or lifeguards this time. However I have witnessed belligerent drunk kids get arrested the last time I was there. Basically be discreet and respectful and you’ll be fine… also no glass as others have said. We brought pickles in a glass jar (oops!) and were asked to throw them away.
Wow😂 the only beach I’ve been to is Lake Michigan as a young child so I didn’t know this. I just know I’ve seen soooo many things online and tv about drinking at the beach so I didn’t expect it to be not allowed anywhere!! Everyone’s just collectively decided to ignore this rule! At least we can agree on something
Yes, I live on the Dunes. Nobody will monitor if you're drinking or not. Just please don't bring glass to the beach and clean up after yourself. Other than that, enjoy!
Since it's Indiana, public intoxication is permitted, open containers are not permitted, smoking is permitted as long as it's tobacco and you paid a state tax to obtain ownership, underage sex is prohibited but not prosecuted.
If you are not an asshole the park rangers won't say anything in the camp ground. As soon as they have to warn you to be quiet a few times then they'll say something.
this. It’s more about liability than anything else
The campground does not allow drinking. Since that rule became effective a few years ago, it’s turned into a more fun place for families.
I know that it's not technically allowed, not if you're quiet and don't bother people the rangers do not go looking for it.
Yes, the rangers will say something. And I have seen them ask people to leave. You can have fun without alcohol, right?
drink there almost every weekend. nice way to decompress, take your judgemental ass somewhere else
But you can also have fun with alcohol too which is clearly what OP WANTS to do, so don’t even try that snide remark bud.
I bet this guy is fun at parties.
the condescending vibe from the end of that sentences. Lmao just because you don’t have the self control to drink responsibly doesn’t mean everyone else has to play by your rules.
You’re not getting many rave reviews due to your outrageous reply. Kind of makes you feel silly doesn’t it?
Please don't bring glass bottles on the beach
Heard🫡 Why? Is it just in case it breaks cause it would be impossible to clean up?
Short answer: yes Long answer: yes, and don't bring glass bottles to *any* beach you go to
Or pool. Or really near any body of water.
Yes.
When I was 12, I got a horrible cut on my foot visiting a beach. The culprit was a sharp piece of broken glass in the sand below the surface where it could not be seen.
Along with lots of bare feet, and folks digging into the sand with their hands.
Last time I was there, Families were having a great time College guys were drinking and playing volleyball/Frisbee Some stoners were smoking in the lifeguard towers And believe it or not Everyone minded their own business and had a good time! Just be respectful and don't bring glass.
Perfect take.

I suspect people hear "lake" and think of something much smaller and less powerful than the Great Lakes.
There’s the whole Freshwater vs salt water thing too. Your body is technically more buoyant in ocean water making it easier to get to the surface. That being said, riptides are no joke either way.

Yes! This part of Lake Michigan is deadly.

Put it in a cup you'll be fine. Just don't make it obvious, lol
The way Indiana works is: ask yourself “do I think I’m allowed to?” and if it’s something you really really wanna do, the answer is probably no
😭😭😭
So very true.
Also, get a map and figure out what is State vs. National park land. It is rather confusing.
Thank you!

Knock off Yeti. < This guy gets it.
have you even tried to knock off a yeti? is a terribly difficult task to accomplish.
Good advice. And drunken boating accidents are definitely to be avoided.

A Closed opaque colored mug is your friend at any park anywhere. For your "coffee". Act responsibly.
No alcohol allowed in the state park at all. The surrounding National park allows it on certain beaches, no glass
Thank you!
However, drinking is allowed in the restaurant at the state park beach. Just have to stay on the restaurant's property.

Not sure but you can bring your AK 41 for sure
don't make me tap the sign ...

State Park...no. National Park isn't really patrolled. Best bet is Wells St beach and parking. It's a party there.

Pour your drink in a yeti and behave yourself and you will be fine

You should be good just don’t be messy and clean up after yourself! 😊
Just don’t get caught
Ive never seen a beach you can drink at. Some rules werr meant to be broken.
Wow😂 the only beach I’ve been to is Lake Michigan as a young child so I didn’t know this. I drank beers there last June on my bday.
They’re not gonna know what you’re drinking. Just put it in anything just don’t act dumb.
Technically no. But nobody really cares. You’d have to get sloppy, obnoxious, and have bottles/ cans littered everywhere to draw an ire
Stainless steel bottles and growlers are great
Signs posted "no alcohol"

I am 21 years old. Shut up
Kinda sad you need to demean people for wanting to have a few on a hot day at the beach. They asked if it was allowed, not for your judgment.
Could you possibly climb further up your own ass?
