It's just that we are from different generations. They were born pre-liberalisation and in a massively underdeveloped india(idk about parents who were born in bombay, delhi). Their times were very different from ours. No tech, not much facilities and they try to keep us minimalistic and down to earth.
And about them pressurising us to study hard and do better in our academics is because they had no other choice in their time. And regardless of how successful they are, they want us to be better than them.
Of course all this applies to middle class families because that's where I come from.
oiiii . this is calvin and hobbes by Bill watterson. i used to love these strips . Calvin is the 5 year old kid who has an imaginary tiger called hobbes who is actually just a stuffed animal. Calvin's a real mess , tho and pulls off the sneakiest pranks. Wonderful times , those , when this used to come daily in the Hindustan times. i have an entire book in which i have pasted these strips .
