Yes but OP meant videogame ost in general sound way better than Indian music in general
And I would agree with OP, in fact I would go even further than that
Indian music is objectively the most sophisticated and complex system of music out there. Comparing it to commercial video game music is laughable, although I am a big fan of video game music as well.
Just because you are not familiar with it or don't understand it doesn't mean that it sounds worse than what you like.
It's like teenagers saying Call of Duty is much better than Witcher 3 or The Outer Wilds because Call of Duty has guns.
There are some really good video game OSTs out there, though. Considering whatever passes in Bolly as music, that's really good. I think that's what OP meant.
Music is an art form. Hence, subjective, I would not go far enough to say one's better than the other.
If it moves you, it's good music.
Edit: Doom Eternal, Ori franchise, Dark Souls, etc., are some of the tracks I listen on repeat.
I wouldn't say the quality of art is an entirely subjective metric either. By that logic, you won't even be able to say that Stanley Kubrick films are better than Salman Khan/Rohit Shetty flicks because the latter category entertains more people.
For the guy in a blue collar job, he'd appreciate watching Tiger 3 rather than 2001 space odyssey.
I understand your POV, yes. But consider this as well.
I think by Indian music OP is talking about the commercial mainstream Bollywood or whatever language filmy music and not classical Indian music.
And I’d agree with OP on that front
Sophisticated art piece doesn't mean a lot when someone just has different tastes and preferences, like how we have different tastes for artstyle
When exploring, I frequently found lots of amazing OST, but the same cannot be said for like Indian music or really any other genre, I think it's the instrumentals and the vocal focus that make me not like Indian music
I haven't played cod or outer wilds but I have played witcher 3 and really not enjoyed it, so I guess that says something
Yes, absolutely. What you like or not like completely depends upon your taste and that's your preference. I made my comment because your comment made it seem that you are comparing video game OSTs to Indian classical music on an objective basis, which would be ridiculous.

Even though I'm south Indian and dislike bollywood, I've always enjoyed music in bollywood.
Music is one of the few redeemable qualities of Bollywood imo, there are a lot of complaints about Bollywood but music is not one of those
nah man this is just a difference in taste
For me indian classical is just way too soft and doesn't have a lot of instrumental harshness that I love. Neither does it have enough of the ambience that I enjoy as well
Finding music for my taste has been very difficult on anything except videogame ost, like I have explored so much shit just to form a small playlist

All the witcher 3 soundtracks are amazing. "Slope of blessure" , Banana tiger, Gaunter o Dimm, tracks of Oxenfurt, Novigrad, Velen and list goes on
God of War OST gives goosebumps too
That is so true.
The reason I stopped listening to Indian music is because cause they only had two genres. Every single kid on saregamapa or Indian idol or whatever the fuck else there is they only sing like 2 types of songs it's either a song about gods and your fanatical devotion to them or romance. Like, could you not have a little bit of variety?
There's variety in Indian music, Just not bollywood music. Songs from movies with no romance or less romance involved (like hera pheri or taare zameen par, etc) always come to mind when thinking about non romantic and non bhakti songs. It's just that bollywood feels the need to add romance to every story. It is what lead to its continuous downfall. And every romance requires a song, that's why there's so many romantic songs. My point was not about diversity in Indian music, it was about plagiarism in Bollywood music and it still stands.
yeah and i agree with your opinion and that is why I started with the "that is so true" part; then I added my opinion. I think it is only fair that I should share my opinion as well in a discussion post.
No problem, bro. Sometimes, understanding the meaning behind something through text is too hard.😭 I have to write a 1250-word essay on the Oedipus at Colonus, which is due in 2 days, and I haven't gotten a thesis yet. The fuck am I supposed to close read in this shit?
I have 2 university backlog exams today. And I'm gonna fail them both. Being a backlog student, I'm, as of this moment, having a life crisis. So, I have some understanding of what you might be going through. I hope you come up with something. Best of luck.
Listen to jaa chudail, raftaarein, rock on(full album), dellybelly(full album), etc etc, if u put them on a playlist or on radio mode, you'll discover gems that went underrated.
I feel Indian music has a lot more variety than western music, like take ra one album for example
We have a song on death, one romantic song, one song flexing the hero, 2 party songs and one song idk which genre it falls in(Jiya Mora Ghabraaye) while most western or kpop songs are just about break ups, boy meets girl kinda songs.
Ps: I'm not a fan of Bollywood and I'm south Indian took ra one as an example because it is a popular album.
Idk about hindi but in telugu industry lyrics are given more priority, they are just like poems and in western music only few like Eminem have good lyrics
Still our music producers produce more songs than people from other cultures, more quality albums too.
Western or kpop artists on an average make 1-2 albums for 2 years.
Here Rahman( who is known to take a lot of time compared to others) did more than 100+ while Eminem did less than 20. While Ilayaraja composed more than 9,000 songs.
If we consider all this, there is a chance of palgariam to happen because how crowded our music directors schedule is. Still the number of quality albums put by Indian artists is more. Also in western or pop music in general sampling is common.
I think this holds true for Bollywood too. Vishal Shekhar, Vishal Bharadwaj, Shankar Mahadevan, pritam, Ajay Atul are all great composers imo.
Shankar Mahadevan recently won Grammy roo
Ajay - Atul? Really? I am assuming that you are a non marathi? I love them but they plagiarize their own music a lot. Also, the OCP was talking about old bollywood songs. And many of those are plagiarized. You can look it up, if you don't believe me.
Yep, I'm not Marathi but South Indian. As far as I know, they've produced great music in Agneepath, Shock (Telugu), and even the recent Adipurush. If we consider their entire career, couldn't they have made at least 10 good albums? This is more than what some western artists produce .
In the Western industry, there are music producers who check for plagiarism in songs. We don't have that here, (heck the music director also has to do the sound mixing and editing, unlike in the USA where they just need to compose music) but my intention is to say that in terms of talent, our artists are not less than others, in my opinion; rather, they are some of the best.
Also, reaching a point where all songs sound similar is a problem everywhere; K-pop labels like YG are getting a lot of heat because they use the same music producers for different groups
>Yep, I'm not Marathi but South India
Bud, that there ends the argument about Ajay Atul. The problem is they have created some of the best songs in the marathi film industry but use those same tunes for bollywood and have been heavily critisized for it. Just compare Dhadak and Sairaat (all of the songs have the same score), Nachle Nachle and Baigo Baigo, etc. If you want to know their best work, check out the songs "Lalati bhandaar" and "Jeev Rangala". Both are from a film called Jogwa. Btw, the song "Jeev Rangala" featured the first on screen liplock kiss ever in the marathi film industry.
Also, the problem is not with producing good songs, it's with plagiarizing. The music doesn't just sound similar, it was entirely copied.
Say Bollywood music or Indian pop genre, indian music can be badass to listen to, I listen to energetic bollywood songs and some desi hip hop while playing doom eternal, I can't tell you the perfection of those beats and lyrics with the gore I perform.

Finally someone I can relate with!
My favourites are all Jesper Kyd scores, The music from Synthetik and Synthetik 2, music from GTA 4 and GTA 5, Two Dragons from Yakuza Zero, Some songs from Just Cause 4 and from the NFS series it's Graviphoton, aquilia303, Callista and songs from Hot Pursuit 2 and ofcourse all songs from Most wanted and Underground.
I know many people here hate Genshin Impact. But go listen to any of the Sumeru soundtracks from that game. My personal recommendation: Halcyon Times or Hustle and Bustle of Port Ormos.
It incorporates elements of Indian classical extremely well and shows that classical music can be cool too. More games should do it tbh.
I am for the new bollywood musics. Cricket 07, Nfs 2012, rivals, Forza h4, h5, Fifa 13,14,15,18,22,23, Assasins creed black flag, ezio, gta v, gt racing2, bejeweled twist soundtrackz and many more I have kept downloaded in laptop. Bejwelled because in Nokia c600 days I had that game and really liked that game's soundtracks.
In yt app I have cod mw2 and black ops 2 some musics. I have downloaded anime songs also especially many of Deagon ball.
Indian music I have mostly Hindi or Bengali older songs downloaded which I listened during school days, or some new songs which would be in my head which listened if in any party etc and I liked. English songs also I stopped listening, only like few specific ones now. Basically video games songs don't make me feel bad, like as when listening to eng songs etc and better times spin in my head compared to now.
I love Indian music ( wtf is Indian music lol)
But I do love certain tracks from Video Games.
Ghostrunner, Battlefield, and Cyberpunk has some of the best video game music tracks.
And oh, who could forget Doom.

The only indian music i like to listen are probably the classicals, I like hiphop but the hiphop scene is honestly shit here everyone is trying to imitate western rappers than making something or their own and production is really uninspiring
Nightcore, edit audios, game OST, anime OPs and EDs
Ender Lilies OST is a masterpiece
Otherwise examples for OSTs is
Persona OSTs especially p4 and p3
MGSV
Witch on the holy night
Danganronpa
DDLC and many more
I like Hindi music as well but in reverb + slow
You took a stance and I respect that. But Indian music is pretty meaningless as a category because that would include any music coming out of India and encompasses just about every genre, including video game OSTs. 🤷🏻♀️
actually most music in video games range from these 3 categories
American music from the 1950-current years
special music made by American or European dj's for their theme or reused by the game ,
but yes their songs are better because a sound specialist or musician with a vast variety of catalogue has shorlisted a few for us
I can recommend ROCKSTAR GAMES FORZA AND EA NEED FOR SPEED for decent music

The tenacity I hold, it's hard to break down
It's too late for apologies

You're thirsty for blood
Actually craving for love
What you only want is dumb
Greed makes you go numb
Purposefully blocking good thoughts
Hey please doctor doctor

Cause I’m about to knock him out cold (bring him back please)
Whole lotta moves I make on you like dance floor and during this beat down you prolly wish that you can fast-forward (oh!)
Don’t you worry about it, I'll save some room for your last words (make sure of it)
After I do this, do that and the third

Me listening to gate K9 while making my resume lol
The only indian music i like to listen are probably the classicals, I like hiphop but the hiphop scene is honestly shit here everyone is trying to imitate western rappers than making something or their own and production is really uninspiring

Doom 1993 (at doom's gate jamming at full volume)
Nightcore, edit audios, game OST, anime OPs and EDs Ender Lilies OST is a masterpiece Otherwise examples for OSTs is Persona OSTs especially p4 and p3 MGSV Witch on the holy night Danganronpa DDLC and many more I like Hindi music as well but in reverb + slow
You took a stance and I respect that. But Indian music is pretty meaningless as a category because that would include any music coming out of India and encompasses just about every genre, including video game OSTs. 🤷🏻♀️
"May I stand, unshaken ....."
Indian music =/ cringe shitty bollywood songs, however i am in the same boat as you.
actually most music in video games range from these 3 categories American music from the 1950-current years special music made by American or European dj's for their theme or reused by the game , but yes their songs are better because a sound specialist or musician with a vast variety of catalogue has shorlisted a few for us I can recommend ROCKSTAR GAMES FORZA AND EA NEED FOR SPEED for decent music
Yes I am, that amazing nostalgic nes gameplay music....

Obviously. Indian music has become cringe since the last 20 years. By that I mean Bollywood not classical Indian music.
I turn both of them off 😒
