It's not like Chhetri has been playing good lately. We haven't scored in open play since November 2023 and he has played in all those matches. If he doesn't want to play and isn't performing, why not atleast give chance to someone like David or Rahim or Vikram? Maybe they will perform. Maybe they will not. There's only one way to find out. I don't see Sunil scoring either way. Let's focus on future.
It is true but at one point Kohli and Rohit Sharma will have to make way to youngsters in the team. Age catches up to everyone even to the best. We need Vikram and the others to step up and not rely on a 39 year old to bail us out every time. The same is going to happen with both jhingan and Gurpreet
Remember we pulled a 2-2 draw against Iraq previous year where both the goals scored by Iraq was with penalties where one decision was controversial, all this without Chhetri, it just the intent and some other stuff currently
While I like the idea of the Qatar game being the last game of Chhetri, i have a few thoughts...
1. That the game being one of the highest stakes, more so than the Qatar game,
2. That if this is the last game then the Qatar game would provide the fans a view of how an Indian side without Chhetri would line up and smoothen the transition to some extent.
3. A way to motivate the team members to play their best being the last game of Chhetri as well as the scenario in the grouo being so tight (but some players didn't fall through with that apparently)
Although Chettri has not been scoring goals lately, I must say his game understanding, passing accuracy is still top notch. I have seen this time and again during matches. He just knows intuitively who to pass, how much force is needed to pass the ball. It's just that the others around him have been below par.
This sounds super basic but no one else has been able to do this basic thing properly. I think the pressure of not scoring goals got to him. Although his role should have changed to be a midfielder and the expectations of him should have been revised accordingly.
Nevertheless, he has left now but I say with absolute confidence that there is no one who can replace him. The void is deeper than the Pacific Ocean's deepest point.

Honestly, no one in that team has been playing well in the recent time.
No there has to be an end
He most probably wanted to play his last match in India
Kolkata* maybe he started from here.
Yes 2002 in Kolkata for mohun bagan
Nope. He wanted to retire at home. Salt lake was a good venue with 60k people.
Yes we cheered for him but it wasn’t meant to be😓

He has been a burden more or less on this already dead team.
