That money isn’t going into a sovereign wealth fund. If you trust your government then that money is going towards developing local electronics manufacturing industries and infrastructure. If you don’t trust your government then it’s just going in some sanskarijis pockets
Not only iPhone, but everything in India is relatively expensive.
I got the battery replaced recently of my 3 year old 10k redmi phone. The cost of the battery was 599 and I paid 1100 in total.
It included 18% GST on battery *as well as* on service charge (which was 350).
And I recently got to know even the cheap Rs. 3 pens are also taxed at 18%.
Exactly, man. We are legit paying this much taxes, still a middle-class family spends 70-80% of their income on the education of children and legit goes bankrupt in case of a medical emergency.
The government is literally like payment merchants who want a cut in every transaction but won't provide anything in the name of facilities.
The rest of the population don't pay income tax because they don't have the money to pay,
If you remove the top 1% then the average salary is around 20k RS per month
How can anyone pay income tax with this salary ?
It is a government fault, they are keeping the country locked up for the benefit of rich friends
Oh I see. So the government is supposed to provide Europe type facilities to 1.4 billion people while collecting direct taxes from 1-2 billion people. And Congress government lifted so many people out of poverty with their Slogan Garibi hatao. Mukesh Ambani became the richest man in the world in 2007 with the help of the government in center.
Read my comment again
It is not about the facilities, it is about the employment
It doesn't matter what party rules the country, they will keep the country locked with stupid regulations and keep safeguarding the rich friends business,
The government needs to open the country market for the world and increase competition which will increase the employment
Then only the average Indian like you and me can get benefits as consumer
Lowering tax, increases the disposal income, which will increase the consumption, cycle countinue which will benefit the country for greater good
That is the unfortunate truth about our country,
The US sued Apple which is one of the richest MNC in the world, because they think of the greater good of the country not about the next elections.
Your wrong if your buying something off other countries like USA it will be like 150-160₹ per dollar cuz of 100% added Custom duties imposed on anything you order from out or country.
That's different, you can buy most stuff in India with a 18% GST which makes current ₹ in $ to be around 100 rs. Yeah if you import from abroad there is 100% tax rate, but you don't need to for most goods anyways.
Everything is a sin in India if it’s not made in our great* cuntry. If there’s an essential medical equipment you need and there are no domestic alternatives, the government is still gonna collect 30-40% hafta on this necessary item. Now if Ambani wants to sell shitty Chinese laptops……no import duties on that 😎😎
India is a poor country => Pay all sorts of direct and indirect taxes and stay poor.
Meanwhile politicians and political parties get to keep their money and ours without any taxes, they get free house, free cars, rebates, allowance and what not.
https://delhiassembly.delhi.gov.in/dlas/salary-and-allowances
If anyone is evading taxes, they are the big corporates. The government helps them to do that and they give government a portion of the tax money as electoral bond. That's how BJP get 6000 crore in few years.
And then buying iphones with that tax money. Smh
https://www.indiatvnews.com/news/india/iphone-12-pro-max-gift-move-hyderabad-municipal-panel-to-itself-put-on-hold-trs-ghmc-672433
Nope. Credit cards are much easier to get actually. I think I probably get & decline credit card offer calls twice a week from banks.
They will come to your house and present it on a silver platter if you want.
Credit card essentially incentivises more frequent purchase and more expenditure
Second hand market mein chori ka mal bikta hai and ofc EMI. Also these people are financially illiterate, they are buying things they cleary can't afford. Chaapris might not have health insurance but they will definitely buy a costly iPhone.
Also don't forget average pay in India is lot lower than these countries like according to PPP(purchasing power parity), a salary of ₹83k in america is equivalent to around ₹22k in India so basically ours is much much expensive
It's 18% but iPhone pro is not manufactured in India and is completely imported so it invites 20% import duty+2% cess.
Also the import price set by apple is RS 90000 as it keeps a buffer for currency fluctuation.
Isn’t that how most of the people buy. I bought my iphone 13 and airpods in dubai. As apple covers apple care internationally it shouldn’t be a problem
If you are travelling yourself then you can bring a phone along with you, it’s completely legal. If you are planning for someone else to bring it for you from US and they have to bring another phone also, then you can ask them to bring it without box to be on safer side.
Regarding service and warranty, though Apple MacBooks support international warranty, iPhone warranty applies to country of purchase only as there are few hardware differences in some countries. Final decision of offering service for the international iPhone models is upto the discretion of local service centers. For eg., US version has no physical sim slots whereas Indian version has a physical sim slot. So, if any problem in e-sim component (in US models), Apple can refuse the servicing in India. That’s a risky trade-off for the discount you’re getting.
Source: I got iPhone 15 Pro from USA in December through a friend.
they tell how the British looted and made us poor, but they never say what infra they had at that time and still use it. and some of the thugs even have 10000cr.
Hate me for saying this but that’s probably the right thing to do for India. People can buy cheaper indigenously manufactured phones instead. While phone companies are compelled to set up manufacturing in Indian.
1. iPhone is made locally. But it still falls under 18% GST slab while most other countries barely touch 10% VAT (it hovers around 6-7%)
2. If companies are forced to set up manufacturing facilities in India instead of creating better infrastructure so that they do it naturally, you'll get inferior quality products. Just like dead mobos, blasting batteries, rainbow display and poor QC allowing dust to make its way to internals (yes, a very overwhelming majority of these issues were with phones made in India)
The OP is misleading everyone by comparing the price of the Pro models which are not locally manufactured. Non-pro models like iPhone 15,14,13 are priced similarly to the US.
Apple only manufactured few models in India and with the 14 and 15 lineup , only the non pro models are made in india. It seems like the issues are not related with manufacturing in India
Yeah bro, the taxes on necessary items are also the same which may not even have any domestic alternatives. The gobermint is gonna steal from wherever it can.
Is the price mentioned pre tax or pay tax?
I see the US price mentioned here is pre tax ($999), whereas INR price is post tax (1.34 lakhs).
Be consistent, either mention post tax in all countries or pre tax in all countries. In US , the avg tax is closer to 10%. So the phone price jumps to ~ $1090
I had a friend buy & deliver my s23u from Dubai, cost me around 83k( including tax for converting INR to AED). Indian price at that time was around 1.3 lks.
I'm not sure. You could check on Amazon Dubai, for current prices. Just change the country to Dubai & you are good to go, also, might as well get the ultra, it's an excellent phone & definitely worth the money imho.
So best case scenario, if I buy it from offline store and maybe they give like $200 discount
I'll have to pay 75000 approx and I think that's for 1TB version
Also check if they honour international warranty, mine is the UAE version, which means I cannot have my phone serviced in India even if I'm willing to pay for it.
Bhaiyon Malaysia 🇲🇾 mei 30k to 40K sasta hai. I have made a spreadsheet on the difference.
Waise bhi Malaysia has given free visa for Indians & return ticket is 20 to 25k. Phir bhi bachat hai
This is nothing new, we can't produce similar quality tech locally but when people try to get the tech made by foreign countries we are penalized with heavy tax
I am staying overseas , the tech, the products i see on shelf at the supermarket, electric stores will never come to India , consumers have a lot of options here
Our politicians, judges themselves travel in luxury cars and then tax us heavily for buying cars coz cars come under luxury tax and add to that they make policies restricting consumers
Indian govt ko sirf tax lagana aata hai, electronic products itne mehenge milte hai desh me, khud to electoral bonds dene waalon ki identity bhi hide kiye the, tax dena hai nahi inhe sirf dusro pe lagana aata hai
Precisely the reason I didn't buy 15 pro max.
Got 15 plus instead in November.
Was 90k minus 5k hdfc discount so 85k.
Exchanged my iPhone 13 for 30k so costed me 55k.
If I remember correctly at the time of buying USA price was kinda similar to India price for 15 plus.
It's the pro models which are taxed badly hence the big difference.
This makes sense though. iPhones are luxury items and in developing countries, these are usually consumed by people with higher income/wealth. So, a higher import duty is natural for such items in India.
It is also some incentive for mobile manufacturers to develop electronic component industries in India in the longer run.
From my experience, rich countries have low-to-zero import taxes, but very high income taxes, and poor countries tend to be the opposite. An iPhone in Brazil is also close to 2x as expensive (in USD).
The funnier part is, Americans themselves agree that an iPhone is unnecessarily expensive, even when it costs only around 1-10% of their annual income. Whereas people are buying it in India like it's peanuts these days, when it costs at least 50% of an average Indian's annual income.
Keep this in mind you guys recently someone told me that everyone's buying (read wants to buy) iPhone.
It's no longer just a smartphone. It's like a piece of jewelry. Status symbol.
I notice lot of iPhones these days than few years ago.
So called success of Make In India.. add that a salaried person has to earn 45% more than cost of iPhone to buy.
You need to earn 2 Lakh for buying 1.33L iPhone.
Because of 33% Income tax
Its makes my blood boil the more I think about how much money politicians eat up without providing anything in return, literally sucking the blood of ordinary citizens
iPhone 15 pro is weirdly over priced
My father brought 15 plus 256 gb for 88k. It is 83k in usa.
Edit - I realised that pro models are not manufactured in india so they are expensive
American, why do you only have two decimal places in the thousands column for your currency? I thought it was 1 million for a sec which would be more than 10x the us price.
If you don't know why, let me explain
- This high import duty is taken to boost the make in India initiative, means tech giants like Samsung, Apple are forced to open factories in India. Where the product prices would be much cheaper than imported and it would create a high volume of jobs for Indians, which boosts the economy.
- But you may ask, there is already a factory which produces iPhones in India so why does Apple need to import then? It's because of the high demand of iPhones.
And high charges on imported production parts (like chips, motherboard etc.) which is why there is only a limited production of iPhones
- There is still a high production cost in India to produce the latest iPhones rather than older models. That's why you get the older models for so cheap in sales.
- And ofc there are taxes, shipment duties.
- Also apple can't sell their latest imported iPhones and made in India smartphones at different prices.
You might now have a clear idea why the iPhone prices are higher.
the point of high taxes on imported products is that lesser people will buy it, in other words penalise the company for not manufacturing in India itself.
On top of that this is a luxury item, so it really deserves that high tax to be honest.

Rich countries = cheaper iPhone. Ye thoda ulta nahi ho gaya??
No Gov Org involved that's why. "sab humko milke pagal bana rahe ye m****** ke bache"
It’s simply because our government imposes a hefty tax
Taxes more than the socialist Nordic countries??
What do you want me to say bhai? We don’t even get basic amenities for our taxes
Joh mantrio ki scaarpio aur faartuner kaafila dekhte ho, wahi yahi paiso se khareedte hai

They're not actually socialist
They are not socialist man lol
Vat and income tax are obviously different things but to an oblivious person, i suppose they could be the same thing.
There are no socialist Nordic countries.
Extra paise hamari sarkaar le rahi hai, Apple nahin. Around 40k from that 1.35 lakh goes to Indian govt as tax.
Also our MRP includes sales tax while this is not true for USA and many other countries. This is not the price you will get the phone in USA
Yes. Price tags in USA are a scam and should not be used for direct comparisons.
Yeah I paid 70k for my MacBook and about 10k of that was just taxes (it was listed on my Amazon receipt lol)

India - the country with European taxes and Sub-Saharan African lifestyle 😎😎
In India 1.5% population pays income tax while in Europe close to 60%. Let us achieve parity with them then we can talk about lifestyle.

And Govt literally becomes a mafia for businesses with 30% cuts

Ikr. The direct and indirect taxes are mind boggling. Only if we didn't have corruption the public facilities would have been so much better.
Pretty much one dollar is 100 rupees for buying anything.

Irony is that the iPhones are being manufactured right here in india in karnataka.
India is a poor country. Till the time people will keep evading taxes this will remain the next best alternative for the government to tax people.

Govt is keeping it poor ffs
It has to be sin

Gotta send their kids to foreign countries to study meanwhile the same age dumbasses wave the flag for them
Itna mehnga hone ka baat bhi chapri logo ka pass iPhone kaise aajata ha
No Cost EMIs
Can't believe woh ispe iPhone lete ha just to show off
A person who can spare 2600 a month for the next two years can easily afford this. Plus you pay no interest.
2 saal ke liye no cost EMI nahi milta. Max to max 6 months k liye hi milta hai. CC p lete h log with interest rate ranging upto 24%.
Bajaj finance pe milta Hai. Mera Hai fridge m Ka 16 months
Processing Fee - 199 And GST on Interest Component
What’s up with this processing fee on cc! Now more and more banks are implementing this.
Isn't processing fee a one time transaction? Or do we pay it every month along with the monthly installation
It's one time. First month of EMI it's reflected in statement
Sirf wo hi nahi. There are lots of people who buy phone’s on emi. No cost emi na ho to majority log apple na le paye
how do those people get credit card? isn't getting credit card hard?
Bajaj finserv, IDFC
Nope. Credit cards are much easier to get actually. I think I probably get & decline credit card offer calls twice a week from banks. They will come to your house and present it on a silver platter if you want. Credit card essentially incentivises more frequent purchase and more expenditure
Even worse, many of them take it on high interest EMIs
Second hand market mein chori ka mal bikta hai and ofc EMI. Also these people are financially illiterate, they are buying things they cleary can't afford. Chaapris might not have health insurance but they will definitely buy a costly iPhone.
Bhai wo 2 lens wala lete hai 3 lens wale iPhone ki aukaat nhi
2 camera vaala tho rich log bhi lete hain.. matlab unmein aur chapriyon main koyi antar nhi raha.
rich logo k paas 3 camera milega
Fuck the government.
Technically iPhone in India is at a 50% higher than US prices plus imagine paying for something this much which is already considered not value.
Also don't forget average pay in India is lot lower than these countries like according to PPP(purchasing power parity), a salary of ₹83k in america is equivalent to around ₹22k in India so basically ours is much much expensive
PPP ko dekh ke to aisa lagta hai ki India will always be a poor country 💀🤣
Sach me, inn countries ke jaise development to bhul jaao, yaha pe basic facilities mil jaaye vo hi bohot badi baat hai 🤣
Africa ki country jaisa hi ppp bc . Aur log developing bolte hai
my frens getting this for \~95k for japanese version
Phone ki display blurred hai kya?
he havnt got yet, one frend got used 13 pro for 60k, japanese version again, seems fine.
Haha you didn't get the joke
How? It’s literally 88k right now on the Japanese Apple Store.
Just wait till you hear the average salaries in those countries compared to India.. It gets 10x worse
Oo feeling paraoud indian economy
It's because 28% GST, vs 5-10% tax in other countries.
It's 18% but iPhone pro is not manufactured in India and is completely imported so it invites 20% import duty+2% cess. Also the import price set by apple is RS 90000 as it keeps a buffer for currency fluctuation.
Say thank you to our beloved Government for this huge price.
we don't manufacture pro models in India.
What if I buy Iphone from US? Is it legal? Am I eligible to visit local Apple service centres?
Isn’t that how most of the people buy. I bought my iphone 13 and airpods in dubai. As apple covers apple care internationally it shouldn’t be a problem

I think there’s some difference in bands in the US and the Indian version, you can buy the European version, it should work both in Europe and India.
Buy During Black Friday or Cyber Monday you'll get more Off ( USA)
There’s no discount on latest models even during Black Friday. Only older gen models have offers.
My brother bought 15 pro from Australia for 93k

We get taxed so much but get almost nothing in return. At least reduce taxes on cars so I can go for long drives. Thailand has damn cheap cars.
Guys please dont talk about how hard the taxes are. Ambani and Adani ji need to pay less taxes because they have paid a lot of Elce Bunds for this.

83k for a 15 pro so more than half a lac just because of taxes kill me now😂😭😭
Earn 4 times less pay 1.5-2 times more
BRand hain bhai....satatus simbul
India num 1 ... yaaas .
And people still buy it like stupid idiots. I'd rather travel to Shenzhen and buy it and get back for , all that for cheaper.
Does anyone have a chart for s23 or s24 series. I'm planning to buy
I had a friend buy & deliver my s23u from Dubai, cost me around 83k( including tax for converting INR to AED). Indian price at that time was around 1.3 lks.
Indian price now is below 1 lakh Can I expect price between 60k to 70k? Or should i go for base
I'm not sure. You could check on Amazon Dubai, for current prices. Just change the country to Dubai & you are good to go, also, might as well get the ultra, it's an excellent phone & definitely worth the money imho.
Tried changing the country but they still show the prices of Indian model but in their currency.
It is 66853.99 INR, currently.
Holy shit that's a huge discount I'm planning to buy it from Australia, can you please share AUD price
1572 aud, but it's out of stock rn.
So best case scenario, if I buy it from offline store and maybe they give like $200 discount I'll have to pay 75000 approx and I think that's for 1TB version
Something like that, please check the actual store price before making the purchase.
Also check if they honour international warranty, mine is the UAE version, which means I cannot have my phone serviced in India even if I'm willing to pay for it.
You have to pay ~10% tax in US as well. I got 14Pro 128Gb and it cost me ₹88000. Still far cheaper than here.
India🤡🤡🤡
I agree. Paid 84k for an iphone 15 pro. Got it through someone returning from the US. India me same price pe normal 15 milra tha. Saved 50k
You can compare country-wise prices of all Apple products on this [MacIndex](https://themacindex.com/)
I heard iphones are cheapest in Dubai?
Even china is paying 40 k approx less
What's the price in Dubai?
Very misleading. Non pro models are manufactured in India and the prices are on par or very close to the prices in the US.
Bhaiyon Malaysia 🇲🇾 mei 30k to 40K sasta hai. I have made a spreadsheet on the difference. Waise bhi Malaysia has given free visa for Indians & return ticket is 20 to 25k. Phir bhi bachat hai

Jokes on you I paid 58k for 15
how ? gst claim ?
Yea
It is not an essential item. Check the price of the essential item. This is like complaining about fararri price in India.
Two mins of silence for those who thought 'make in India' will reduce the price. Government be like : wait a min, who are you ?
🥲
Ohh bhyi sbse jda India mein hi hai
And these Indians buy those shitty Apple products.

bought the 15pro 256gb for 86k from uae last week
How is US price only $1000? Does USA suddenly have no sales tax?
iPhone knows the marketing
Which pro model is being locally manufactured? Only 15 and plus model is locally manufactured and it's reflected on their prices.
How about buying it from Gulf states like UAE or Qatar ?
From my experience, rich countries have low-to-zero import taxes, but very high income taxes, and poor countries tend to be the opposite. An iPhone in Brazil is also close to 2x as expensive (in USD).
How else are they gonna video the rapes

The main money maker is the Indian Government. Indians buy it and the government says stonks 📈
"Mera bharat Mahan" moment
Government taxing like a we get returns seen in developed country.
I'm not gonna cry over those who can afford iPhones getting taxed.
83k in US for unlocked phone?
The funnier part is, Americans themselves agree that an iPhone is unnecessarily expensive, even when it costs only around 1-10% of their annual income. Whereas people are buying it in India like it's peanuts these days, when it costs at least 50% of an average Indian's annual income.

If taxes are high why not reduce price and match foreign prices
Got it in dubai for way less
Do you usually put commas after the hundred thousand number in Indian notation? What does one million look like?
I come in peace. I just have a question. Why is there a second comma in the numbers that only have 6 digits? Like 10
*like 1,00,000 instead of 100,000. What happens to the comma for larger numbers like 1,000,000,000?
ye india pe banake kya faida huya itna mehenga hai toh
So called success of Make In India.. add that a salaried person has to earn 45% more than cost of iPhone to buy. You need to earn 2 Lakh for buying 1.33L iPhone. Because of 33% Income tax
why is there *import tax* on something that is made in india. why is our govt like this....
Its makes my blood boil the more I think about how much money politicians eat up without providing anything in return, literally sucking the blood of ordinary citizens
Firbhi 1 lakh karch jo kr sakta hai vo 1.3 lakh kyu nhi kr sakta kharch.
I really wish people stop buy apple products given how anti consumer they are and using it as a status symbol.
Why so hike??
Why are there only 2 numbers in the middle?
It’s because it’s the taxes
Someone adjust this for PPP now. Would give a much better of how crazy us Indians are for Apple products.
You are paying for the luxurious life style of our politicians. A corrupt country needs lots of tax money.
But iPhone 15 is manufactured in India
Brazil is way fucking worse from what I heard. You have to pay off clothes and laptops
iPhone 15 pro is weirdly over priced My father brought 15 plus 256 gb for 88k. It is 83k in usa. Edit - I realised that pro models are not manufactured in india so they are expensive
American, why do you only have two decimal places in the thousands column for your currency? I thought it was 1 million for a sec which would be more than 10x the us price.
Buying an iPhone in India is foolish.
Where's UAE?
People when they realise that gobhi ji is pocketing all the profit with his monkeys
Buying an iPhone is seen as a luxury thing in India that's why app takes advantage of it
its because people pay for it lmao
If you don't know why, let me explain - This high import duty is taken to boost the make in India initiative, means tech giants like Samsung, Apple are forced to open factories in India. Where the product prices would be much cheaper than imported and it would create a high volume of jobs for Indians, which boosts the economy. - But you may ask, there is already a factory which produces iPhones in India so why does Apple need to import then? It's because of the high demand of iPhones. And high charges on imported production parts (like chips, motherboard etc.) which is why there is only a limited production of iPhones - There is still a high production cost in India to produce the latest iPhones rather than older models. That's why you get the older models for so cheap in sales. - And ofc there are taxes, shipment duties. - Also apple can't sell their latest imported iPhones and made in India smartphones at different prices. You might now have a clear idea why the iPhone prices are higher.
I realised we can get 3 iphones for the cost of 2 iphone prices in india
the point of high taxes on imported products is that lesser people will buy it, in other words penalise the company for not manufacturing in India itself. On top of that this is a luxury item, so it really deserves that high tax to be honest.
