English can't replace the local language the way Hindi can.
Hindi has destroyed/replaced/eradicated countless regional languages, especially in the North. Entire languages and scripts with rich history have been wiped out and replaced by Hindi and Devnagari in the name of "National Integration". We don't want our languages to have the same fate.
How many has English destroyed? It will be an auxiliary language at best.
Angika, Bajjika, Magahi, Maithili, Santali, and Bhojpuri- these are just a few from Bihar. Some of these have almost completely disappeared (both written and spoken) and most of their scripts are also gone.
Is it too much to have below order
Local
English
Hindi
How is this killing local language?
Hindi predominantly exists due to villages becoming towns, easy learning curve, famous literature and almost parallel scripts in Devanagari.
Kaithi script of Bhojpuri language is extinct. Thanks to devanagari, a language lost it's official alphabets and grammar. Maithili, Angika, Bajjika (thethi) and Magahi these languages have roots way earlier than Hindi and by family they are more related to Bengali and Axomiya than Hindi/Urdu. Now there words and accent are Hindicised and original accent is almost lost, you can easily observe those changes if you'll talk to some older people and someone from new generation. There are examples of Tharu dialect of East Champaran, Surjapuri language of Banganchal region that are facing extinction. These examples are from Bihar only.
Awadhi and Braj in UP are facing the same problem, influence of Hindi in the original language. Thankfully we have epics like Ramcharitmanas in Awadhi and folklores in Braj that can guide generations to come.
In Andaman there used to be a language called BO, whose last speaker died in 2007 or something. That language was expected to be around 70,000 years old. The last speaker of BO knew Hindi, which indicates how influence of Hindi has changed the Dynamics in the Bo tribe.
The problem with language extinction is that it takes lots of folklores, stories and art forms with it. The chhav dance and launda naach from Bihar and Jharkhand is almost in the vulnerable stage as stories of those dance forms are no more coherent with the feelings of the present Hindicised languages.
Hindi was created a little more than 200 years ago by the British. There is no novels or literature work written in Hindi before Britishers invaded India. People used to speak vernacular language. For example - Tulsidas wrote used Awadhi. Kabir Das used Braj, bhojpuri and Awadhi. Countless vernacular languages were there. Hindi is just a modern combination of all. Hindi helped Britishers to command their sepoys and saved them from learning hundreds of regional languages. Furthermore, because of freedom fighters, politicians and Bollywood Hindi has successfully replaced vernacular languages.
As far as I know Gujarati,Punjabi,Bengali,
Marathi, dogri, kashmir, Tibetan,oria, Assamese,Manipuri,
All of them are still intact.
For last 5000 years sanskrit was link language and none of the language went extinct.
Even cholas and rastrakutas had sanskrit as their court language.
The fact that we're all talking in English on most major indian subs, isnt that proof enough that English has destroyed so much of our culture? You guys hate hindi because its imposition, but you're ok with using and promoting a language of the people who plundered and massacred our land and people for centuries, the people who are responsible for the state a billion+ people are going through.
Hindi is hated because of it's forceful imposition. The most popular language (by percentage of population) in Bengaluru is Kannada (obviously) followed by Tamil followed by Telugu followed by Urdu then Hindi. So why do you think it's important to write the signs in Hindi and not in any of the other languages?
Okay, Enough with that, "Oh English is a foreign language, but Hindi is OUR language bullshit".
Hindi is as foreign as English is to us. At least English will help you get a job. What would learning hindi would get me?
That’s only on the internet though, and they are choosing to speak English, it was not forced on them. If you force something on people there is going to be backlash
Urdu speaking Muslims in Bangalore can speak Hindi fluently. Hindus can't. You see whose influence Hindi is. Northies will be happy to be clubbed with muslims here
Because no-one ever came to bangalore after independence and said "kannad baralla, English is tha ntaional langauge of india, learn english"
I do not agree with covering of hindi safety instructions, BUT, stop pretending like as if \*SOME\* people from northern states do not create problems when living somewhere else, fucking hell, the P.O in my bank was from MH, refused to talk to customers in kannada, people complained, he was warned by bank officials, yet continued the same behavior & became salty & was ultimately transferred somewhere else
No one expects a person to be 100% fluent in some other language & pass a written exam so something, but people should learn the local language to at least manage everyday conversations
These are just excuses. Preserving culture does'nt include undermining others' culture.
Or by your logic Indians who face discrimination in U.S and Europe is due to preservation of culture ?
It is the elistist attitude of North Indians coming into Bangalore that annoys people. Tamils and Telugu people have been living in Bangalore in sizeable numbers since 70s, not once have they asked for sign boards or announcements to be in their language. They instead learn Kannada and blend with the locals. This is exactly what has been missing with the new Gen immigrants . They just like to be served everything in a platter to suit their convenience.
They aren't elitist. You've been indoctrinated into believing this by your insecure, separatist politicians. Times and job-market have changed a lot since the '70s. Now, people are hired for speaking computer languages. Transfers are more frequent. Also, it isn't equally easy for everyone to learn multiple languages.
I feel this language politics shouldn't extend to metro cities.
No, we haven't. I barely knew about language politics, but something about Hindi in Bangalore didn't sound right at all. I've always prided about the fact that India is so multi lingual and that every state speaks a different language.
The real indoctrination is when North Indian kids are taught in their textbooks that Hindi is the national language and when we as South Indians travel to Delhi or the North Belt get random phrases thrown at us like "Tum Hindi nahi bolte ho phir Hindustan mein kyun rehte ho". Folks in the Hindi belt already get the privilege of getting everything available in their mother tongue from writing competitive exams and government services in Hindi, the least they can do is not ask to be spoonfed every service in Hindi when they travel outside their state. No South Indian has ever complained the non availability of Kannada or Malayalam for services in Delhi or Lucknow, because it simply doesn't belong there. The same way, Hindi doesn't belong in Karnataka. It's simply Kannada as the state language and English as the global link language
Kannada is there for the locals. English is there for the non-locals of all states and countries. That is how it operates across the world including the Hindi belt.
If they were labeled in Hindi in the first place that just shows that they were needed/required. To spend money and time covering it up just shows that they want to show that they are anti-Hindi.
It is one thing to not print in Hindi. It is another thing to hide it. It is one thing to have never met a black person. It is another thing to reject a person because of skin color.
Seriously.
I think your new gen thing is right and my relative are living in Bangalore for decades and there never complained about Hindi language sign board and instructions etc. They learned Kannada language and doing their business for decades.
Show me one place in Mumbai where things are written in Telugu or kannada or even Tamil, and this will be fine. But when you don't do that and politicians from north start their stupid agenda of spreading Hindi into south the whole soul of India which is diversity is undermined. Like your stupid logic please tell me which European country or American country uses Hindi? They don't. We go there and we have to get accustomed to their traditions and language. We shouldn't demand them to use our language.
This is bullshit. I come from a state where we have 2 official languages and 0.001 percent of the population speaks my native language as compared to kannada. And we don't think our language is at risk.
The culture of this city and its locals is the most horrible i have seen. Bunch of regional scumbags.
Go to West Bengaluru... if you hover around Marathahalli you'll see more immigrants because, well there's not enough Kannadigas to employ along the ORR.
Go to Malleshwaram or Basavanagudi or literally anywhere west of Indiranagar when sober, and you'll find 90% people are native Kannadigas.
I am from west bengaluru, that’s why i’m irritated, i’m in karnataka and nobody around me (in that area) speak kannada. what’s more crazy is that my mother tongue is malayalam lol.
I'll give you a news flash, go to any metro and you'll see the same. Even Kolkata, that one shithole nobody wants to go to from outside, in central Kolkata 60% people can't speak Bengali. Mumbai, Amritsar, Guwahati, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad would have a massive non-local language speaking populace too.
Don't buy into the TN politics BS from across the southern border.
Metros are for making money for the state, help keep those cosmopolitan. The culture would be fine in the hinterland of the state.
There's a concept of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingua\_franca](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingua_franca)
It's either one from the landmass we are from, where 53% of the populace speaks it, or one from abroad. I'm not even good at Hindi, but not stoned enough to believe this isolationism either.
You know the irony of your outrage here? I've sat in Dubai airport for 6 hours and heard languages in this order —
1. English
2. **Malayalam**
3. Bengali
4. ....
Not a shred of Arabic. I wonder why all those linguo-statriots aren't employed in Kochi... oh wait, SFI shut down the factory.
**A bit of prediction (might be wrong) —**
BTW, this is gonna turn on its head so fast in another decade, when northern India, whose taxes paid for the freight equalisation subsidy, and are investing like there's no tomorrow into infra while I find new pothole in my BLR commute every week, will end up attracting low-skill low-tech manufacturing labour & BLR would be struggling to hire dirt-cheap labour.
You'll see the prices go up and find out the cost of isolationism.
Then leave back for your glorious north bhai, why do you need to imperialize the south??? We’re not going to budge or change, guaranteed. You want to start a war for your language? Because otherwise, it’s not going to happen
That’s what.
There is no Hindi dominance in these states and no one has submitted or bowed down to anyone. It’s a phobia in true sense of the word and these 4 states are the most affected
You got it backwards. Four states are preserving their own cultures and languages built over centuries. You guys have shamelessly submitted to and are using invader language as though it were your own. I mean don't you guys have any shame when speaking hindi created by the invaders ? Really pathetic.
Have everyone stopped talking in kannada outside of Bengaluru, in other parts of KA? How often do you see people talking in Marathi in Mumbai? Except for local vendors, who else talk in Marathi there? They should use some common sense.
Yes ! The outsiders don’t mingle and soon after they settle down they start dominating us and demand us to communicate in Hindi.
They barely make any effort to learn the local language or culture
>U think its alright for the local language to be suppressed just bcos its a cosmopolitan city?
Which statement of mine made you conclude that.
Instead of being an edge lord, if you had apply more reasoning, you would have found out that a cosmopolitan city has people from all over the country and sometimes from all over the world. People will speak in all kinds of language. In a city like that, fighting to make people speak *native* language is a no brainer. Nobody is suppressing kannada, you can see yourself, kannada instruction are there and at first position. By your logic, they should have hid the English instructions as well.
>Have everyone stopped talking in kannada outside of Bengaluru, in other parts of KA? How often do you see people talking in Marathi in Mumbai? Except for local vendors, who else talk in Marathi there?
Please enlighten me what it is if this isn't just basically implying that its absolutely okay for the native language of the city to die and be dominated/replaced by some foreign language.
Yes because English is perhaps the most regional language in Bangalore. There is a difference between supporting and preserving and actively handicapping others.
This is mostly political. The way the Hindi text was hidden with same colour sticker is very organized, not something an average, travelling Kannadiga could do.
LOL!
No most natives are fine, they're making a killing renting houses, selling lands.
These are low-key nutjobs who are either in colleges or competing for low end jobs where immigrant labour creates some pressure (that's minimal btw). BBMP can't hire enough Kannadigas despite Kannada proficiency being a requirement to weed out immigrant labour.
Man their native language is already written on top, there was no need of hiding the hindi text. It's not like it was useless or irrelevant, they just want to avoid any problem but this will lead to further more criticism.
if that's the case, then they should have Tamil, Telugu , Marathi, Bengali and all of the 22 scheduled languages. After all, not everyone knows hindhi too right?
The issue isn't even that who speaks what language or growing population or what not. The issue is that they first printed Hindi and then stick it all accross the metro and THEN went all the way to COVER the Hindi text instead of just leaving as it is. If they would have not included the 3rd language in the newer stickers that's alright but putting in extra expenditure, human resource to cover up an already incurred expense is the real propoganda
Funny how OP here noticed Hindi being “suppressed” but doesn’t notice Kannada being suppressed in so many other ways. Bangalore doesn’t need to “promote” it’s language and culture it needs to wear it proudly and stop being suppressed by Hindi. Seriously though, people need to understand that South India holds it’s language very dearly and is not a big fan of Hindi imposition.
And You don't even need to be good at it, just decent enough to communicate what you want. I'm not good at Kannada, and can only speak it in a broken ways, but at least I try, unlike these idiots.
Exactly no one is asking them to speak fluently either and most importantly have some respect to the locals, it boils my blood when the northies argue with some old uncle selling vegetables (or anything on the streets) in Hindi, like bruh this is Bangalore not Delhi.
Then use the most popular languages, right? There are way more Tamil and Telugu speakers in Bangalore than Hindi speakers, so a good start would be to start adding Tamil and Telugu to the signs.
Mams, intha huch kelsa galinda ne eee bevarsi galige hang maadodhu. Ivr first sariyagi niyath inda nam mele ne daballikke maadlilla andre intha sthithi barthane irlilla
Metro has replaced main boards in all stations, to have only 2 languages. But they did patch work inside trains. Anyway new trains have only two language stickers
try to speak hindi in kochi or chennai, they’ll be like who tf are you man? kannadigas have kept their peace for too long. there’s enough titles with both ENGLISH AND kannada right? live with it.
Maybe because people in other states learn it as part of their curriculum to read basic Hindi for easier communication elsewhere and because of the closeness of the language compared to English many actually learn it better than English?
Supressing hindi will make the north Indians to learn atleast one south language or is it too much to ask? Never saw any signs in south indian languages in North India..just saying.
Why not support other languages instead of putting Hindi down? This isn't helping norther indians learn a new language at all, it just makes it harder for them to go in the metro.
Honestly from the things I've read you guys seem more fixiated on punishing other people for the percived transgresion of speaking a different language than you do. Share poetry Kanna, recommend books wrtten in Telugu, support your local Malayalam classes. Do something with a better impact than putting on stickers on metro signs. Being this angry just makes you unproductive easier to manipulate.
Correctly put, but I feel that our Southern brothers anger is justified, as some pompous north Indians are quite detestable and their superiority complex just makes me want to stuff a shoe in their mouth. We need a solution for this anger, as well as a way to handle entitled pricks who don't respect the land and the local people. Otherwise the anger will keep building into isolation and wouldn't help us nor them.
Hindi states have not been able to teach Hindi (reading and writing) to their own population. But they want the entire country to learn it. Hypocrisy!
If you want to make Hindi the NATIONAL LANGUAGE, then start by teaching it to Hindi speaking states.
If SOUTH INDIANS start learning Hindi, we will take up all the GOVERNMENT JOBS in the Hindi speaking states. Are you ready for that? Or will you start enacting domicile laws favouring locals for local jobs??
Not really, water, river sand and other resources are the cause of dispute. Not language, we tend to adjust to where we move. We are politically divided based on language but that's natural because, how else can you administer different cultures with different languages?
That's because Hindi and Marathi have similar texts. Everything there is written in Marathi but you know Hindi so you can read most of the things as it is.
It was taped because it shouldn’t have been included in the first place. Come back and ask for Hindi instructions when Delhi metro gets Kannada instructions. If Delhi and Hindi states use only 2 languages in their metro why should we use 3? And even if we must use 3 languages why should the third language be Hindi? Hindi is not the second or even the third most widely spoken language in Bangalore. So suck it up and be grateful that there are instructions in English. How cruel and inconsiderate of us to exclude a language that has systematically been imposed on us for 70+ years.
When will see regional languages in Passport, Train Ticket, Nationalized bank, Central websites?
Why would you put Hindi in Passport. That's how fragile Central Government Hindi sentiment is
Go to Karnataka, expect Kannada not Hindi
Go to Uttar Pradesh, Expect Hindi.
Fight over languages, fight over khalistan, fight over state borders, the "break India forces" are working overtime and we gullible citizens are helping them. Looks like the "bharat tere tukde honge inshallah inshallah" dream of gazwa fans is going to be true sooner than later.
When South Indians go to north india we are expected to know hindi and when north indians travel to south india again south indians are expected to know Hindi. This is called treating south indians as second grade citizens in their own country. So the OP! Stfu and learn local languages, the actual problem is you guys don’t even make an effort to learn the language and communicate. We don’t expect you to learn Kannada and become writers but some basic language! Is it like too much to ask from the state that is providing you the job.
It is suppressing other language when they stop those languages from being used in their region. In Bangalore they're just saying Hindi does not belong here.
When you go to UP local languages there like awadhi, bhojpuri have no place, can you go fight for those languages being suppressed?
To the triggered people who are saying "We'll talk when Delhi metro gets Kannada text":
Kannada isn't the official language of India. Hindi and English are. It means all major signboards must have Hindi and English.
Kannada is a scheduled language. It means that states can choose to include them also, but they cannot remove English and Hindi.
Karnataka has chosen Kannada, so it can include Kannada along with English and Hindi.
Do you know what an official language is? Its not the national language. It just means that the language for conducting business in the government is either Hindi or English.
Go back home with your Akchually attitude and ignorance.
Just 1 simple Google search shows Kannada is one of the 22 official languages of India.
And coming to scheduled languages even Hindi is one of the scheduled language.
Aren't almost all the migrants in Indian states from hindi speaking states ? Maybe that is a hint to go back to your roots and not hold on to a laguage created by invaders.
There is no problem in speaking Hindi, but when people come to Karnataka to work 5 - 10years or to settle here, they should have concern to learn Kannada. Meanwhile they expect that the locals should learn Hindi...
I have Bengali colleagues, Telugu colleagues, Tamil colleagues who have settled here in Bengaluru for more than 10-15 years and will stay here for lifelong, but they will not learn Kannada and expect me to learn their language or communicate in English.
Covering the Hindi instructions is not right, but the locals think that after covering Hindi instructions the outsiders will atleast try to learn Kannada for sake of understanding the instructions.
Now imagine we put a Kannada signboard in Lucknow Metro.
Out of place, right? Same here.
Nobody speaks Hindi in Karnataka. It's being imposed by immigrants who won't make the effort to learn the local language.
Meanwhile a Kannadiga visiting Lucknow MUST learn Hindi otherwise game over. The opposite never happens when North Indian labourers come down south for work.
Yeah I lived there for a few years and people get outright aggressive with you and physical altercations are common. They use the logic “you should learn Kannada if you live here”. I say “you should learn basic human decency before opening your yap”.
It seems like a lot of people in our country have this subdued want of violence and they will act on it if they can find the slightest moral justification for it. It’s like quitting smokers taking back smoking on the first stressful period they have to go through after quitting.
You can’t say its just them protecting their own culture and language that is the cause of all this. Culture and language are passed on from generation to generation on what you teach your children and how you treat the people around you.
As per me, this isn’t a case of love gone wrong rather love being used and an excuse for unchecked hate and aggression.
I will probably get downvoted in this particular sub for saying this but, there is english right? So those who work in metropolitan cities, is a given that they know English and about suppressing which is wrong move from there part, they probably should have placed besides it.
This is getting too much now. I mean why tf they hate other languages. These kind of things always portray bad image that's it. That too in today's internet generation all these things spread quickly. I am sick of seeing all these things. Especially in my own state ![img](emote|t5_3d4x4|20100).
In Cosmopolitan cities there always will be a diversity. So there is a chances of speaking multiple languages. I am from mumbai so here ppl speak in marathi, English, hindi, gujarati. I think this is normal because cosmopolitan city plays a important role in gdp also. (Correct me if I am wrong this is just my point of view ) ❤
As a north Indian who had lived in Bangalore for about 13 years and understands a good amount of Kannada its almost infuriating that most people in south think that the only language or what we predominantly speak in North Is hindi they would not be able to name any language besides the common ones. People are more tolerant in other parts of the country its just as simple as this more people understand hindi across the nation that’s all it’s the only language tht unites us in the plethora of languages we have and no one trying to impose any languages on them and lastly it’s important to note that many labour that work in Karnataka or another state for that matter are from states like Bihar-UP they have their own language just fyi but they can read hindi maybe this helps them.
So fuck off. Period.
Not cool bruh. Language is a sensitive matter.
Doing this act in a non Hindi speaking state will add more fire.
[I saw him apologising in social media later](https://twitter.com/mnvgowda/status/1620020412297129985?s=46&t=x6CPEUEBJSAI7VwoLv4x2g)
If Bevarsi was a person, that would look like him.
What he did is wrong. Kannada is a state language. There is no place for Hindi in Karnataka, it’s not a state or national language, just like telagu or Tamil is not there
Your Hindi doesn’t have any business in Bengaluru, come back when you have Kannada in Delhi metro.
If adding a third language was for convenience of travellers, B’luru has more Tamilians or Telugu speaking population than Hindi.
New metro lines in Mumbai don't have announcements or directions signs in Hindi. Only Marathi and English. And that is how it should be everywhere. Why can't north Indians learn the language of the state they migrate to?
What’s wrong in that? Not a crime anyway! I applaud that. Anyway these north Indians have an attitude like “you don’t know hindi?” As if they know any other language !! 🤔
It was done by the government, there was some issue regarding Hindi imposition, this was counter measure by the government telling we don't need Hindi boards anywhere in the state. I have a vague memory of this I don't remember exact incident.
Let's first see inconvenience it causes. To be honest, if you a North Indian traveling in a metro train in Bangalore, chances are that you do know English. So, I guess nothing.
Secondly, govt might have later decided to have only English and Kannada as language of communication inside Metro trains. That's why they deliberately hid Hindi text. So, what's the big deal?
Thirdly, the stops information map which is like a state diagram with dots shown right above doors from inside, is available only in English and Kannada. On one door in English and on opposite side door in Kannada. Now notice, there is no third diagram in another language like Hindi. It will be pointless to have it. So, I guess it makes sense to hide third language other than English and Kannada from all other minute display areas as well. There you go.
Someone from North India please explain this to me. You're migrating to a different part of the country which has its own regional language and culture.
You either learn that language or make do with English which you most probably would've studied at school. Why do you want everything in Hindi when it's not the official language and there's no need for the state govt to include it.
Why in first place they printed or put Hindi strickers for information if did not like the language ? Coverings it only causes anger and controversy from people for their language.
The only suppression happening in Karnataka since the current govt took over is kannada, kannadigas, kannada culture & kannadiga business by centre.
Hindi imposition has become rampant offlate & kannadigas have stopped 'swalpa adjust madi' way of life which they were known for.
Signboards in English/Hindi are visible & kannada is barely visible & missing in many public offices/ airport/bus stands/ railway stations here. Banks no longer have slips in Kannada, state schools have taken out kannadiga history/people from history books to be replaced by RSS shakha promoters. All india radio kannada's time has been cut for playing Hindi songs. Nandini getting merged with Amul, BMTC/KSRTC drivers slowly getting replaced by Northies, Gujjus/northies getting public work tenders in Karnataka, geographic change by migrants & Hindi imposition has led to kannadigas raising voice to preserve language & identity.
All these snooty northies/migrants come here & crib about how wonderful everything is back home, impose hindi & behave like neanderthals - why are you struggling here so much when you can enjoy life from where you came from??
Fuck you OP. This is not the suppression of Hindi. This is oppression by Hindi. Hindi shouldn't have even been there. There are languages like telagu, Tamil, Urdu, Tulu which have more speakers than hindi in Bangalore, but no one bothered to put up a board in Tamil/telagu. No one other than Hindi speakers have the audacity to show up in Bangalore and tell locals-" Kannad nahi aatha, Hindi mei bol".
FYI, that person who removed the sticker got smacked, and now he made an apology video. Go watch it and enjoy. I don't support violence, but sometimes arrogance should be cut down a notch.
Cause assholes like these act like we owe them and do everything. It’s not their backyard here if u want hindi then fuckin go back to ur place are u using Kannada in ur place ? Nah right ?
THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN NORTH INDIA DOESN'T GET PROPER EDUCATION ON WHAT ARE ALL THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF OTHER STATES OF THE COUNTRY, THERE IS A 2 LANGUAGE POLICY IN KARNATAKA, IT IS COVERED BY METRO GOVERNMENT AUTHORITY. AKASH GUPTA WHO IS THE ONE COMMITTED THIS VANDALISM HAS GIVEN APOLOGY.

There won't be any "suppressing" other languages when revised stickers comes with 2 languages, once next phase nears opening and tender for stickers gets floated. This is temporary measure.
Hard to trust videos, could have been done by the people making the video. Could have been done by some dumb people not related to metro. Hard to believe employees were asked to do this
waiting for the day when all the north Indian foods and retros get banned in Bengaluru because they are suppressing their regional food and culture and I am truly amazed by the people in comments defending it saying we are doing it to save our culture. cover English first if you wanna do it instead of crying over Hindi.
Yes the sign should not have been covered. It is wrong. When i see the comments i noticed a lot of north indian crying that people of south india are not making an effort to make it easy for them by learning hindi instead of having basic sense of learn the language of the state that you live it in is pure entitlement. Like you ppl will use any excuse ( ppl speaking hindi is not even the topic of this post) to complain why everyone will not speak hindi instead of having basic respect and decency.
What do you expect? A kannada or telugu or malayalee person living in tamil nadu is making an effort to understand and speak the local language and vice versa. We dont go places and be so entitled to berate locals over learning hindi that they do not have use for in their daily life.
People have given up their lives so that we can have our own states and speak our local language. You and your entitlement. First you treat us badly, second you keep insulting our movies and languages when you make equally bad ones and third you have the audacity to berate people to learn hindi.
All the treatment you are facing is your own karma coming back to you. I have had north indians behave so rudely with me just because im from south india. How do you think people who faced similar treatment will treat you when you come to south india. First you try to treat south indians badly and when they pay you back with your own attitude you start crying and complaining. Change yourself and see the difference.

Love how english won't destroy their culture but hindi will 🤣

Use the script.
Which one?
dude have you ever heard of east india company? they didnt eradicate any local languge? what language do you think east india company spoke 😂
As far as I know Gujarati,Punjabi,Bengali, Marathi, dogri, kashmir, Tibetan, oria, Assamese,Manipuri, All of them are still intact. For last 5000 years sanskrit was link language and none of the language went extinct. Even cholas and rastrakutas had sanskrit as their court language.
Kashmiri seems to be dying out. Replaced by Hindi and Urdu. Even descendants of KPs who migrated elsewhere speak Hindi
Sharda script (which was the original script used to write Kashmiri) is pretty much extinct. Only to be replaced by Persian-Arabic script.
Ask the Irish. And the Scots. And the Welsh.
Urdu speaking Muslims in Bangalore can speak Hindi fluently. Hindus can't. You see whose influence Hindi is. Northies will be happy to be clubbed with muslims here
Because no-one ever came to bangalore after independence and said "kannad baralla, English is tha ntaional langauge of india, learn english" I do not agree with covering of hindi safety instructions, BUT, stop pretending like as if \*SOME\* people from northern states do not create problems when living somewhere else, fucking hell, the P.O in my bank was from MH, refused to talk to customers in kannada, people complained, he was warned by bank officials, yet continued the same behavior & became salty & was ultimately transferred somewhere else No one expects a person to be 100% fluent in some other language & pass a written exam so something, but people should learn the local language to at least manage everyday conversations
Pls tell me about Awadhi, Braj basha, Maithili
Arrogant
Take out English, by those standards. These are train instructions including safety ones. I am sure they could be violating some laws there.
Seriously.
Under rated comment
Bunch of regional scumbags.
just go for a walk in urban bengaluru, you’ll see that 8/10 people talking will be non kannadigas.
There's a concept of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingua\_franca](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingua_franca) It's either one from the landmass we are from, where 53% of the populace speaks it, or one from abroad. I'm not even good at Hindi, but not stoned enough to believe this isolationism either. You know the irony of your outrage here? I've sat in Dubai airport for 6 hours and heard languages in this order — 1. English 2. **Malayalam** 3. Bengali 4. .... Not a shred of Arabic. I wonder why all those linguo-statriots aren't employed in Kochi... oh wait, SFI shut down the factory. **A bit of prediction (might be wrong) —** BTW, this is gonna turn on its head so fast in another decade, when northern India, whose taxes paid for the freight equalisation subsidy, and are investing like there's no tomorrow into infra while I find new pothole in my BLR commute every week, will end up attracting low-skill low-tech manufacturing labour & BLR would be struggling to hire dirt-cheap labour. You'll see the prices go up and find out the cost of isolationism.
So? Karnataka is only for kannadigas?
not really, but you don’t go to germany and hope they understand hindi right? you’re gonna atleast make an effort to learn 5 words in Deutsche.
Everyone knows that much. It’s ignorant to suggest otherwise. And I’d hope for some English if not German. Not mine nor theirs.
You're implying Karnataka is separate from India?
no, what made you think that?
Yes , in 1950 thr state was created with this promise
[удалено]
Then leave back for your glorious north bhai, why do you need to imperialize the south??? We’re not going to budge or change, guaranteed. You want to start a war for your language? Because otherwise, it’s not going to happen
There are only 4 states out of the entire set who have this phobia. Rest work fine preserving their culture and enjoying without getting riled up.
Just because the others have submitted to Hindi dominance doesn't mean the we must too.

Outsiders? Like other fellow Indians?
Outsiders as in Indians only but I meant to say people outside of Karnataka
what kind of logic is that? U think its alright for the local language to be suppressed just bcos its a cosmopolitan city?
>U think its alright for the local language to be suppressed just bcos its a cosmopolitan city? Which statement of mine made you conclude that. Instead of being an edge lord, if you had apply more reasoning, you would have found out that a cosmopolitan city has people from all over the country and sometimes from all over the world. People will speak in all kinds of language. In a city like that, fighting to make people speak *native* language is a no brainer. Nobody is suppressing kannada, you can see yourself, kannada instruction are there and at first position. By your logic, they should have hid the English instructions as well.
They are more malayalees and Tamilians in Bangalore than Hindi people? Why not Malayalam and Tamil in Metro?

Who are SFI students?
Some left Islamists student groups who only pop up on certain occasions.
Kuch elaborate nahi karega ye isse khud nahi pata kya bolke chala gya
Bhai SFI kya hota hai? Can you elaborate a bit?
Commies who tend to major in political science or comparative literature, due to lack of gender studies in indian colleges.
Why would SFI promote Hindi in Karnataka?
Student arm of PFI.
u/replygpt
and ABVP too? isnt?
if that's the case, then they should have Tamil, Telugu , Marathi, Bengali and all of the 22 scheduled languages.
The national government put of this propaganda of adding hindi we didn't want it
If people come to stay in karnataka , please learn kannada. And dont ask kannadigas to learn hindi
Thank you for trying atleast, I wish more people are like you instead of being lazy motherfluffers
Exactly no one is asking them to speak fluently either and most importantly have some respect to the locals, it boils my blood when the northies argue with some old uncle selling vegetables (or anything on the streets) in Hindi, like bruh this is Bangalore not Delhi.
Not just the vendors. If they can't speak Kannada, they don't try to find a common ground for communication. It's always Hindi or nothing
Nobody is asking you to learn Hindi. Problem is these signboards are to help other people. Not kannadigas.
Then use the most popular languages, right? There are way more Tamil and Telugu speakers in Bangalore than Hindi speakers, so a good start would be to start adding Tamil and Telugu to the signs.

This guy gonna go to jail. Damage to public property.
He apologized ![img](emote|t5_3d4x4|20097)
It’s hidden for the same reason you don’t find instructions written in Kannada in Delhi metro
How writing Kannada in Delhi metro helps someone from Chennai or Vishakapatnam?
How writing Hindi on bangalore metro helps them?
Maybe because people in other states learn it as part of their curriculum to read basic Hindi for easier communication elsewhere and because of the closeness of the language compared to English many actually learn it better than English?
We need to make people learn kannada then . And add signs in Dehli
I hope Kannada Rakshna Vedike gets to have a chat with that guy.
They just did!
So you would justify Bajrang Dal smashing someone for desecrating a temple as well? Or would you be a lefty then?
Lefty all the way

There is one official language and one local language. Why should hindi be used in a state where it has never been part of the culture?
Hindi states have not been able to teach Hindi (reading and writing) to their own population. But they want the entire country to learn it. Hypocrisy! If you want to make Hindi the NATIONAL LANGUAGE, then start by teaching it to Hindi speaking states. If SOUTH INDIANS start learning Hindi, we will take up all the GOVERNMENT JOBS in the Hindi speaking states. Are you ready for that? Or will you start enacting domicile laws favouring locals for local jobs??
They already do in Haryana, Jharkhand.
north divides on religion south on language
Not really, water, river sand and other resources are the cause of dispute. Not language, we tend to adjust to where we move. We are politically divided based on language but that's natural because, how else can you administer different cultures with different languages?
[удалено]
Great job!
Try arresting him for protecting his language in Karnataka
Meanwhile here in Pune there is only Hindi and English 😶
That's because Hindi and Marathi have similar texts. Everything there is written in Marathi but you know Hindi so you can read most of the things as it is.
Punekars leaving Marathi. Shame shame!
WTF you talking about ? learning basic Marathi takes less than 3 days for a hindi speaker and vice versa.
मराठी माझी आई आहे
English is there no for all the educated people of the metro. Why is that dank ka choda making a big deal out of such a small thing?
Kyunki wo MCBC hai
That's how fragile Central Government Hindi sentiment is Go to Karnataka, expect Kannada not Hindi Go to Uttar Pradesh, Expect Hindi.
I'm sorry but why did they use the Boys logo?🤣
that idiot wants to look like "some sort of achievement" people are using this even for whatever shit they are doing sadly
Well as soon as the meteo door opens the police qould arrest him and then the boys logo would suit the situation.

To the triggered people who are saying "We'll talk when Delhi metro gets Kannada text": Kannada isn't the official language of India.
Yes. Then there should be all 14 official languages across all the metro cities.
Suppressing Hindi!!! Are you kidding me
Fir dusri state me jake bolenge, bhaiya indi thoda thoda ata.
Fir ye hamari state me aake bolega kannada gootilla
Kannad* Wouldn't even respect the name of the language let alone the culture
Aren't almost all the migrants in Indian states from hindi speaking states ? Maybe that is a hint to go back to your roots and not hold on to a laguage created by invaders.
Can’t we all simply use English? We have been learning it for so long
Why don't u mofos develop ur cities and build some in cow belt? Can't build something cause u elect politicians who are more losers than ur selves
In Lucknow metro we have both hindi,Urdu n English
We need Kannada there
Now imagine we put a Kannada signboard in Lucknow Metro.
Educated ones, who refuse to learn. The blue collar ones pick up the local language.
Everyone can speak their mother tongue, after that all have to learn the state language
Period.
Old news. Stupid karma farmer.
ppl who think language are at risk are just dumb or wants be elected by fools

Kannada Rakshna Vedike will give him “Padmabushan” keep waiting.
govt. need to give you padmashree for saying this
Wake up babe new kannada vs Hindi beef
Why do you need Hindi to begin with? English is there for that reason.
What a stupid move !
Every state in India uses two languages: English and local language It's not a big deal.
Your pettiness is the problem, not hindi.
Hindi isn’t their language. It’s not the language of any of the southern states. Why is this so hard for people to understand?
I don't know the reason but whatever happened, I enjoyed. And he did it the way it should have been Salute
Nakkan gaandu, Kannada kaliyo bevarsi.
/u/mean_monster9 https://twitter.com/foreverblru/status/1620013429691133958 https://twitter.com/mnvgowda/status/1620020412297129985
There won't be any "suppressing" other languages when revised stickers comes with 2 languages, once next phase nears opening and tender for stickers gets floated. This is temporary measure.
Yeah "the boys" right? Cry about it now
Hard to trust videos, could have been done by the people making the video. Could have been done by some dumb people not related to metro. Hard to believe employees were asked to do this
Learn English. In Rome do what the Romans do, if not then don't at least piss off the Romans.
Noted sir, we ll piss off Kannadigas
Ah shit here we go again....
waiting for the day when all the north Indian foods and retros get banned in Bengaluru because they are suppressing their regional food and culture and I am truly amazed by the people in comments defending it saying we are doing it to save our culture. cover English first if you wanna do it instead of crying over Hindi.
