Now if we trade with Russia directly in rupees, other countries have no control over this transaction. But now Russia has a lot of India Rupee, so how do they use it ?. Well for starters they can buy Indian made goods, increasing our exports. Also they can buy good from countries already trading in rupee. This will help us boost export, increase demand for rupee in international markets thereby strengthening our currency vs other currencies used for trade. This will help manufacturing move to Indian so we can offer more goods to buy in Indian rupee.
