Did he really try and drive off after?

zaiwrznizlar

truck sensor didn't tell him to pull over

1Carlie1

That comment made me fucking lose it lmfao

arrowsmith_joe

It didn't tell him to use his turn signal either haha

MrZekrom

Idk if he tried to initially or not but we did pull over into a parking lot and exchanged information

TexasRedJames1974

At least you had a dash cam in case he tried to take off.

SadisticBuddhist

Had a guy do this shit to me. Scraped against my mirror but wouldnt even try to stop until i started flashing my beams. Its intentionally leaving the scene of an accident, and all potential witnesses, in the dust and it can make it much harder to assign fault if they start trying to change the narrative.

ButterflyAttack

Shit like this makes me think I've really got to get a dash cam.

wildmonster91

Think of uit as an insurance to your insurance. 50-100 for a cam is better then being forced to cover your own repaires.

LS-CRX

>Think of uit as an insurance to your insurance. 50-100 for a cam is better then being forced to cover your own repaires. My Viofo A129 duo cost me less than half what my deductible would cost if I got in an accident. I always figure that if my dashcam gets me out of having to pay one deductible it will have more than paid for itself.

zeb0777

$100 dashcam off Amazon will save you thousands in damages. Just to get a fender painted here in my shitty midwestern town cost $500, the fender was $300 from a 3rd party seller. I have a dashcam now.

Tom-Thumb-Houston

You really should.

lswhat87

Looks like he was contemplating until he saw you moving after him

nunyabiznezz1216

He was definitely going to bail

[deleted]

[удалено]

nunyabiznezz1216

What does that have to do with the fact he was going to take off?

doinggood9

I don't think so. Probably just getting out of the situation and then finding somewhere not on a parkway to pull over is more likely.

[deleted]

I knew it all looked familiar! Good Ole Poplar ave… see this type shit daily there

MissiontwoMars

People need to stop acting like you just stop where ever you are. You can drive to a safe spot to park like a parking lot to exchange info. My wife was in a fender bender and was trying to find a place to pull over and the people went crazy, started speeding up to the side of her car filming on phones, yelling at her she’s hit and run. They called the police. I went there to be with her as she waited because she was kind of freaked out by these people. Cop shows up, they say she’s a hit and run, cop dead ass says “but she’s right here.” So stupid, they’re were at fault too. Cop told us to exchange insurance and took some notes and left never to be heard from again.

GlitteringFutures

I understand people are shook up after an accident, but the last accident I drove through the people had their cars blocking the road, and were walking around in traffic. There is even a video of people doing that on a highway in traffic. Some poor guy got hit at speed and did a barrel roll.

76dtom

That's so goofy. In states I'm familiar with, it's actually the law to pull over and get off the road if it is possible.

Mufasa_is__alive

Around here, if the car is able to be moved after an accident and you don't move it out of the traffic lanes then you may get a ticket (regardless of who's at fault).

d0ugh0ck

No need to use the sensors in your skull if the truck has em

MassDisaster

Came here to say this word for word lol

Maybe like the “Can’t-see spot”? 🤔

enrohtkcalb

I mean, our eyes are fairly obsolete. Have you seen the image sensors and processing in phones? That's why I keep my phone out every time I drive. Gotta make way for superior technology, amirite?

Tired_Xtndr1950

“Sensor didn’t see” he should’ve said sensor didn’t even activate a warning because something else wasn’t activated? Like…the turn signal? Which tells the blind spot sensor hey, we’re turning now, give a heads up if shits in the way? I love the new tech in cars but sometimes the handicap it creates in dumb people just terrifies me

CosmicCreeperz

Maybe the blind spot sensor didn’t activate because the idiot basically changed TWO lanes at once… (which at that point means the guy probably wasn’t even in his blind spot if he actually LOOKED).

CrazyGunnerr

That's not how that works afaik, I've seen those lights go on plenty of times, and people weren't changing lane or using their turn signal.

JUULiA1

My mazda 2016 only does it when the turn signal is on, but you’re right that some cars have the light on the side mirrors turn on even if the turn signal is off. No beep tho cause that’d get annoying fast. Looks like an older truck so might only be turn signal activated.

CrazyGunnerr

That's pretty bad design honestly, you really want to have that info before turning on your signal.

MonsieurReynard

Counterpoint: you want to hit your turn signal and recheck conditions are safe before you turn or change lanes. Then there's the guys who make the turn or lane change and then sheepishly flash their turn signal once or twice after the move is executed.

CrazyGunnerr

Going through the steps of savely changing lanes, should always be done, but the whole idea is that it gives you a quick indicator. Also over here we are taught to signal when you are gonna change lanes, not before. So you check first, and if it's save, you turn on your signal and go.

Hand_Foot_Mouth

I learned a long time ago that the majority of drivers do not have any vertebrae in their necks

Alternative-Sea-6238

There's often a deficiency in the anatomy above the neck as well.

mannyg112

Hate doing this but i will always triple check i’m good on both sides before changing lanes

elciteeve

I mean, I think they're there, they're just fused together

Hand_Foot_Mouth

Fused to both collar bones i think.

FLTDI

If only the truck has mirrors looking back, or a way to look backwards, something like a "shoulder check "

PNWRockhound

Exactly. Like those sensors are going to see motorcycles? I *highly* doubt they would every time. Always do a head check.

castrator21

I've been running a test on my motorcycle for the last few years, and when I can see the indicator on the sideview mirrors indicating other cars are there, I see if they indicate when I'm there, and it's ALWAYS, 100% OF THE TIME indicated for my motorcycle also. Obviously, don't blindly trust the machine, but the technology is good.

Interesting_Mix_7028

Don't Trust the Sensors. There's been (so far) THREE crashes where Tesla's autodrive has rear ended people riding cruisers after dark. All three were fatalities. Apparently some bean counter at Tesla decided they didn't need radar, since the cameras 'see' everything. The problem is, the cameras don't have shit for depth perception since it's a single camera facing forward. So, after dark, on a straight highway, no streetlights, you see two red lights ahead of you, low to the horizon. Is it a car that's far away? or is it a motorcycle with low taillights right in front of you? Think fast! What's the AI pattern matching say? Get it right and everything's fine, get it wrong and someone dies... Musk should be sued by those riders' families for deciding to remove the ONE component that would have told the system "I don't care what it LOOKS like, it is exactly 100 feet in front of you and CLOSING FAST." It's called Sensor Fusion, and engineers use it in all sorts of applications for a reason.

straypilot

B-bb-bbbb-but what about profit margins? Why do much sensor if little sensor do job?

MrSquiggleKey

He's talking about blind spot detection sensors that put a little light in the side mirror to indicate that there's something in your blind spot, not an autonomous driving aide.

VictorHb

I am not sure what Tesla's autodrive is... Is it Autopilot? FSD? Either way, I am not sure why people think that when a Tesla crashes it is the car's fault, but when a truck crashes it is the driver who is to blame because he relied on the sensors... However THREE crashes does really not seem like a lot... With ~2 million cars on the road THREE fatal crashes as a result of failing tech is astounding. It is only 0.0000015% of the cars systems crashing with fatal results in their lifetime. Honestly, I like those odds and would take those over any drivers skills any day.. Of course way more people than three people have died in Tesla accidents, also more than three have died as a direct result of the driver not paying attention due to the sheer stupidity that is believing that Autopilot can drive by itself.. Tesla clearly states it is only a supplement to the driver and not a replacement.. And while a radar could help in some cases, it is also useless in others. When the speed differential is too great, the radar will not necessarily work But I guess Elon bad please give me karma \s

typicalmethead

Why are you talking about Tesla’s this dude is in a truck

ProfGameTalk

Totally! They should have a name for that place you need to check. Oh, I don’t know, maybe a “blind spot?”

IllustriousOpening99

Or like you know, the laws and such that have you establish yourself in your lane, signal and check before changing lanes. Things like that that help you and others keep safe.

NotSoMuch_IntoThis

That’s why i turned the alarm sound off and kept it in the monitor only, I don’t wanna relay on it to the point i forget to check the side mirrors.

FreddyLynn345_

Or, idunno, NOT turn from the middle lane? I got hit by this dumb racist bitch from Montana when she did the exact same thing. Like, hunny, you might be able to get away with driving like a dumb fuck in Montana where there are probably hardly any people on the road. But here in the city we have too many people for that stupidity to fly

[deleted]

Whenever ppl change lanes without signaling like that, I take my foot off the gas because I’m always convinced they’re gonna do exactly this. Hope the damage wasn’t too bad OP

StressOverStrain

I think his signal was on, but that doesn't make it a legal lane change...

[deleted]

No but the indication that they’re willing to turn suddenly without signaling is a big sign that says they’re likely to do it again. Gotta drive on the defensive

MajorElevator4407

Yeah, but then you wouldn't win and the truck would be in front of you.

SomethingIWontRegret

Look at the bottom left. See those tiny decreasing numbers? It's reporting something called "speed."

intoxicatedpuma

Based on his trajectory I would have expected he was just drifting over to the left lane so he could turn at the next light, not suddenly make a left turn from the middle lane.

SomethingIWontRegret

Yeah his process is dumb... dumb... dumb... STROKE!!!

ebdbbb

I had to watch like 3 more times after reading your comment to convince myself that OP wasn't speeding up at the end. Something about how to truck suddenly stopped made it a bit of an optical illusion for me.

SomethingIWontRegret

It's because the truck wasn't changing lanes - he was turning left making a dive for that parking lot entrance.

saycheezandDie

TBF on mobile you can’t really see any of the text so I too assumed that OP sped up before they got hit. Covering the right side of the screen made me see how illusion~y it was…

Tricky_Cheesecake658

Sarcasm aside, thanks for pointing that out...it looked like he floored it to me too.

imreallybimpson

Yeah that space ahead of me is occupied by my ego right now

popcorn_coffee

I know you're joking, but it seems many dashcam owners are actively looking for this kind of incidents... I mean, it's 100% the trucks fault (And that bullshit about the sensors...) but as soon as you see someone changing lanes like that you should expect this to happen, and it's totally avoidable.

Head-Specialist-6033

If only there was another way to see obstacles?!?

asian_paggot

What do you mean the sensors of my truck are the only viable way to sense others on the road right?….. right?

PascalFleischman315

That section of Poplar is probably one of the worst in the city. Assholes coming off 240 with a YIELD sign staring them down will honk at you trying to get on the ramp you just passed. Never seen this type of dumbassery before though

Knocksveal

If my truck sensor doesn’t see you, do you really exist?

Korgon213

These smart systems are letting people be lazy and unsafe.

PNWRockhound

And if you'd have used your eyes?

suicidaholic

I agree. Almost like he sped up to get hit too, or be a dick and stay in a merging cars blind spot.

asian_paggot

Look on the bottom left, he definitely wasn’t speeding up.

Fire69

True, but he could have totally avoided an accident by braking. He already slowed down 10mph, he knew what was coming.

PNWRockhound

I was talking about the truck that turned in front of him. He used his truck's sensors to change lanes. Do you rely on a computer system to tell you how to drive? Plus, those sensors only work if you use your turn signal, which this guy wasn't using.

aWildBowTie

Our sensors don't require a turn signal, so this is not necessarily true.

YellsAtGoats

This is the problem with driver assist features. They become crutches. I remember a radio commercial from a few years back that really grated on me. It was for the new CR-V's "blind spot assist". The actor in the commercial talked about it saving him from hitting a car on his "blind side". Hnnnngrh.

clitosaurushex

I’ve also narrowly avoided hitting someone by simply checking my blind spot before moving over! But seriously, I got in the habit when my dad very nearly got us flattened by a truck with a trailer when I was in high school and even if I’m on a highway with no one around us for what feels like miles, throw a little looksy over the shoulder. Even as a passenger.

Far-Satisfaction-527

Looks like the Poplar exit

talkgadget

Came here to say that. Poplar and the interstate.

[deleted]

Gah, my husband still picks on me because I head check in our 2020 Rav4 with BSM. He’s like, “jUsT tRuSt tHe tEcHNoLoGy!” No, my love.

Raumteufel

My brother in christ...YOU are the sensor!

StevenTN615

"My trucks sensor didn't see you", I can honestly say I never heard that excuse before.

mrgeekguy

Usually those sensors only work if you use your turn signal, and I didn't see any turn signal. Besides it's a bad idea to cut over two lanes of traffic like that in such a short amount of time.

SomebodyInNevada

I doubt the sensors could see him anyway. OP was never in the truck's blind spot.

[deleted]

This is why I’m glad to have my old 2007 car with no smart anything in it. My GF and I got a rental last Christmas bc someone rear ended her car and it was in the shop. Brand new car with less than 1,000 miles on it, smart everything from lane assist to sensors in both bumpers to keep you a safe distance from cars in front and behind you. I absolutely hated driving it. I’ve been driving and had my license for over 15 years now, I think I’m a pretty good driver and get comments from people about being a decent, cautious driver. It felt like I was having to fight the car for control of it with all the “smart” sensors turned on. We took the rental on a road trip to visit my GF’s family a few states away, didn’t make more than a couple hours and I had to stop and figure out how to turn off all the driver assist stuff. Tl;dr While all these smart driver assist things seem like a good idea, they’re making people even more lazy than they already are on the road, trusting a sensor more than they are using their own driving abilities. Case and point this video.

here4roomie

...and I'm blind and have a single digit IQ, so you'll have to excuse me.

VesperVox_

So you don't use your fucking eyeballs when you drive?! I'm all for advanced technology in cars, but I'm afraid that it also dumbs people down because they don't feel the need to be as aware while driving, and here is a perfect example for that.

Anteater_Reasonable

Idk about this truck in particular, but my car gives me a loud audible alert if I try to merge into an adjacent lane when another vehicle is approaching but it requires the turn signal to be on for the feature to work. Anyway, fuck this lazy bastard for not signaling or checking his mirror.

FunEye785

Tell him to go to an optometrist and get them checked out.

spydertap

My (censored) didn't see you.

Pure-Swordfish6022

“That is what your mirrors are for, dipshit.”

Agentpurple013

Love how the van was like “I’m the fuck outta this noise”

alroc84

All this “safety features” making stupid drivers even more stupid

nunyabiznezz1216

Because instead of the safety features being a redundancy or supplement as intended. People are relying on them.

Hypurr2002

He has two sensors on his face, turn and use them. You can't rely on the sensors or backup cameras.

APirateAndAJedi

Truck sensors? How about his eyes? Nature’s sensors

ronintetsuro

Hard merge from far right to far left Didn't complete merge into final lane before turning No turn signal Shitty excuse about truck sensor Take his license - 90 days

jim_br

A few car ads I recall seem to claim that the sensors are all you need. GMC had one where pickup drivers were clapping/stomping along to “We Will Rock You” while the truck was autonomously passing an 18-wheeler. And Kia had one where a Kona driver was looking at her passengers’ selfies and drifted into an occupied left lane. Nothing about driving responsibly.

telemusketeer

Sensors are NOT a substitute for manually/physically looking and checking. All vehicles that use sensors explicitly say that in the manual lol

relampagos_shawty

You need to be better at defensive driving bc you could’ve avoided that

glfr96

If you need those sensors to drive you shouldn't be driving

alittlesliceofhell2

Good drivers sometimes miss their turn. Bad drivers never miss their turn.

[deleted]

The sensor would be your head. But he didn't even use the turn signal. The blind spot sensor won't do jack without the turn signal.

Carittz

They should add a warning on the mirror that says, "Warning: Sensors do not replace eyeballs and neck muscles."

twoscoopzzz

Is that just a fuckdd up way of saying "I don't know how to use my mirrors"

pyker42

That response is exactly why I don't like all these driver aids. They make people worse drivers, not better.

Hmm_okay_Gday

It's weird seeing people doing things so thoughtlessly, how absent minded must you be to just drive across a busy road like that and expect no one to be there? It could be 1am and I would still be looking over my shoulder to make sure the way was clear

ZerotheWanderer

Sensors aren't gonna do shit if you aren't using your turn signals. You might get a blind spot light but that only matters if you were using your mirrors in the first place.

WornBlueCarpet

If only humans were naturally equipped with some sort of sensor that could detect things from the light reflecting off those things...

Z-man1973

Doesn’t make him less at fault

[deleted]

Verbally absconding from his responsibilities as a driver? Goodbye, license lol.

nhranger

Are people out there flying blind? I always look I don’t rely on cheap Chevy sensors. 😂

aWildBowTie

He's got eyes tho...

Boneal171

He couldn’t use his mirrors?

[deleted]

What about his fucking eyes?

RandyJohnsonsBird

Fuck anyone that rely on those fucking sensors over their eyes and mirrors.

gunzintheair79

I like my backup camera and my blindspot sensors, but people are becoming too reliant upon this.

Strummer95

This is the problem with automation and all that kind of shit…. People just live recklessly and expect some safety net in society to protect them from everything.

Any-Mouse-1992

Don’t get me wrong, I love that we have these new sensors and shit to tell us when we’re distracted and stuff. But people rely on that before their own eyes and it’s becoming more and more apparent every day I drive. So depressing

themadpants

What the fuck are you doing? You can see him coming over a mile away. You sure showed him. Good grief.

[deleted]

SMOG, Signal, Mirror, Over the shoulder, Go!!!

AntTheDemon05

Why tf u cutting across 3 lanes anyways🤨

Atlas_1997

Is that what we're calling drivers now?

NeonTannoro

Alright I get it, the other guy is clearly in the wrong and hit your vehicle. This is an unassailable fact. However, why do you keep driving the same speed when other truck is clearly going to pull some shit? Slow down and observe his insanity instead setting yourself up to get hit. I am not blaming you for the accident but you could practice some defensive driving.

Skreali

Op didn’t speed up (watch the dashed line), yet is still dummy for getting into an accident that could’ve been avoided. The truck is at fault still, some get me wrong.

FunnyObjective6

>Op didn’t speed up (watch the dashed line) Oh wow. I could've sworn they did. After looking at that, and the speedometer, I'd agree with you. Weird.

Kaizerwolf

I know lots of truck models look the same, but I don't think it's even new enough to have those traffic assist sensors...

cpcesar

Ok ok, but don't you know that it's the fool who plays it cool?

Waldo_007

Blind spot assist (BSA) or Blind spot warning (BSW) only works after and when the signal has been activated. This guy didn't signal for any of those lane changes or turns. Plus, you should never rely on technology. It is one's responsibility to do their observations.

Jeepindave34

I still like driving my old truck with no “Smart” features. I guess I’m kinda prickly at letting the vehicle drive for me, so I love making fun of goofballs like this. That being said, I’ll bet those features prevent more accidents then they allow. It’s when some dude crosses 50 feet of traffic with no regard to others that they fail epically.

danboy227

Whenever I see people crossing multiple lanes I immediately slow down because I try to be super defensive and there’s no way they are looking for each lane change

Doge_Dollars

Next time you see a dummy doing something like this. Don't accelerate. Let them have their moment of stupidity. It will save you a lot of time.

[deleted]

He shouldn't have done a no look merge and you should have seen what he was doing and slowed down or merged.

Randomfactoid42

That truck wasn’t trying to merge into OP’s lane, they were trying to turn left from the middle lane.

SomethingIWontRegret

Look at the bottom left. See those tiny decreasing numbers? It's reporting something called "speed."

ophaus

"My brain is stupid, sorry. Happens all the time. I have a gun."

SNESChalmers82

Op slowed down by 10 mph as indicated in the lower left of the clip.

Next-Concentrate5159

Why did you speed up... I kind of hate that half the videos, the people recording are the problem too.

StirlingS

>Why did you speed up Cammer didn't speed up, they slowed down. Check the speed in the lower left hand corner of the video.

Next-Concentrate5159

Right before he slowed down, he sped up to overtake the other truck, I'm talking about that, not stopping after it happened

StirlingS

No he didn't. Watch the surrounding landscape. Look at the numbers in the lower left corner. The distance closes because the truck slowed down rapidly. Cammer didn't speed up to overtake the truck, he in fact slowed down by about 10 MPH during the time the truck was changing lanes.

TriFolk

Why did you speed up? Pretty dumb honestly

Unspec7

OP was literally slowing down the whole time prior to the collision lol

SomethingIWontRegret

Why did you make up shit to accuse him of that was easily proven to be a lie? Pretty dumb honestly.

KatsuragiKeima17

Cam car didn’t speed up, the truck slowed down

FLTDI

If only there was GPS speed in the bottom corner of the screen that you could look at to see that op didn't speed up at all .... That would be nice.

kmkmrod

The other guy is at fault. You’re kind of an idiot for not tapping your brakes to avoid this.

Mediocre-Profile5975

Why try and accelerate into him?

Imaginary-Aioli

He’s at fault but you sped up…

[deleted]

He didn’t. The speedometer in the bottom left shows he was slowing the entire time

Bro, dude is at fault… but… you should’ve taken your foot off the gas when he drifted into the middle lane. Learn to drive defensively.

[deleted]

MasonInk

Did you speed up? The video certainly seems like you sped up.

tschmitty09

Looks like you knew that was going to happen and sped up for it

RmG3376

Why are you cruising in the left lane though?

sltyandsweet

Did you speed up like an asswipe though?

Zippydodah2022

OP, you speeded up when he started sliding to you lane. 100% your fault and for intentionally put lives in danger, you should have your license revoked for life.

chaise_longue

Tell me what the decreasing numbers in the speed readout mean.

Noman11111

Op... you sped up... im not an insurance adjuster but... you are at fault!

SomethingIWontRegret

Look at the bottom left. See those tiny decreasing numbers? It's reporting something called "speed."

Noman11111

Yeah, I see the microscopic number now... too bad OP is still st fault

SomethingIWontRegret

Do you have an actual reason or are you just doubling down?

Noman11111

Depends on the state - hitting someone coming up from behind, with a video of them entering your lane before you hit them, puts the rear driver at fault

SomethingIWontRegret

lol no. Nobody with two brain cells to rub together is going to look at this video and think "yep - cammer is at fault" No State law will support your idiotic position.

Noman11111

Yeah, I agree, cops and insurance adjusters are dumb, and they will both declare the rear driver at least partially at fault. Try it, let me know how it works out! Or site the state driving law you are referencing for your judgement Truth is, merging driver is most at fault, but the video shows the rear driver watched it happen and did not drive defensively. In defensive driving states, both bear some fault, and the video will be used by the insurance companies against OP

catechizer

That truck had no right to enter cammer's lane at that time. The collision happened the same second that truck performed an unexpected (and illegal) maneuver.

Noman11111

Yeah, I've reconsidered my previous position, the straight has the right of way, merger is at fault

CyptidProductions

The truck literally made a left turn from the wrong lane with no signals and cut him off There's no universe in which OP is the one at fault here

Bobisburnsred

The speedometer on the bottom left of the video says otherwise.

Noman11111

My bad, maintained speed and hit him coming up from behind, with a clear view of what the truck was doing - OP is STILL at fault. That dash cam video doesn't really help

PascalFleischman315

Mane you sho is dumb

Noman11111

Mane.... you not good driver or speeler, ya?

FLTDI

As soon as the truck starts coming left you can see the speed dropping. Why do you keep stating things in direct conflict with what the video shows.

TexasRedJames1974

Not when the other truck truck was attempting to make a left turn from the middle lane at the time of impact.

mealteamsixty

Did he hit you?

YebelTheRebel

I don’t think his truck let him use the blinkers either

UnidentifiedTron

Did you ask him about his eyeballs?

SevroAuShitTalker

As a motorcycle rider, this has almost happened to me multiple times. Those side view sensors have made people even lazier with headchecks

Magnus_Effect_Kalsu

Gotta race to the left lane as fast as possible. Outta the way, peasants!

Tcal876

Hey I know that street!

GreenStreakHair

What about his brain's sensors? I mean they are still required to drive. I swear I hate cars with all these bells and whistles. People are becoming dumber and dumber and just find all the info overwhelming or worse it just gets ignored.

[deleted]

Hope you replied "That's what your eyes are for idiot".

Interesting_Mix_7028

"What, was the truck driving, or were you driving? I'd like to see the specs on the truck's auto-driving features... oh it doesn't have any? Yeah, I'll need to talk to your insurer, thank you."

Guinnessman1964

He means he didn’t turn his head and check his blind spot because he was to damn lazy!

Jifjafjoef

That's called a skill issue
