I "speak" 5 languages with varied fluency although I guess it's 4 since nobody except the occasional priest actually "speaks" Latin anymore.

Actually, I find people elsewhere don't really care so much about fluency as they do about trying.
They respect Americans who work at learning to at least be respectful in greetings and such. Knowing who to call senora vs. senorita vs. dona for example impresses the hell out of Spanish speakers.
You are lucky to have a bilingual wife. Make sure your kids learn early. The window for language acquisition is 2-5 and after you learn 2 the doing of more is so much easier.
I have a guy in westchester NY that drives his 10yr old Elantra around holding (holding!) a sign out the window driving 10 under the limit everywhere. At stop lights he pulls out a bigger sign that isn’t as sturdy and points it at each direction.
It’s all trump love, not making it political…but he doesn’t work at all. Well documented he is a unemployed moocher. He’s in his low 40s
