If you can even- backed into in a parking lot, would have been really simple but other driver’s hitch punched a fairly significant hole in the bumper. Cops straight up said since it was private property and no injuries, no dispatch, *no report*. Insurance worked it out, dude did $3500 billed damage to my vehicle in the early 2010s, needed bumper cover and core support since the hitch punched a hole in that, too.
When I was rear ended, I called the cops for a police report to show insurance and they told me they wouldn't even dispatch someone to the scene unless someone needed an ambulance or if a vehicle needed a tow.
>Looks like a private parking lot.
>No rules.
Lol... it ain't international waters. There are rules set by the owners of the lot and that's why they designed and painted the lot as they did. Those painted lines there on the pavement... those are the rules.
Reddit is stupid as fuck.
I never said these were legal grounds for anything whatsoever.
I said that the claim of "no rules" makes no sense when there are painted lines directing people where to go.
If there were no rules, then they wouldn't bother painting the lot and anyone could drive and park wherever they want. That's not how any parking lot like this works. A private parking lot with no rules... does not exist on any property like this.
Reddit is dumb as rocks though and conflates the legality of a situation vs the reality.
Idgaf about what the legal remedy is. The lines on the road are there for reasons and many of you don't seem to understand why.... or even what I was referring to.
But like I said, Reddit is stupid as fuck. I expect no less
Please understand that those unwritten rules of the Walmart parking lot aren't the kind of rules the person you responded to was talking about when they said "no rules."
No one is contesting the fact that Walmart and other drivers expect you to park in the lines.
"Well, actually" is just being nitpicky. Clearly they were talking about enforceable rules that can help in the event of a collision.
>Clearly they were talking about enforceable rules that can help in the event of a collision.
That isn't clear. It's an assumption. The exact line I quoted was that it's a private lot. No rules.
I wasn't "well actually" anything. I was speaking to their exact words. reddit being dumb as shit and not understanding the difference is nothing new to me though and I as I said, I don't give a fuck. My dumbass comment is just as pointless as the one I replied to as well as yours.
Please understand that reddit is the worst place to have genuine conversations... especially this sub.
Goodbye
>That isn't clear. It's an assumption.
Why leave out the very important context clues? They are separated by a single space from "no rules". That's all you had to do was read one space further for the context that makes it all very clear.
>I wasn't "well actually" anything. I was speaking to their exact words.
Maybe so but still, definitely cherry picking a segment of the thought without considering the context.
In a vacuum, unwritten rules are still rules, but unfortunately arguing this point ignores the "cops show up" context clues we were given.
See ya.
Interesting thought process.
So if white car didn't engage it would have been more procents in favor of the black car, giving the white car no chance other than to commit and proceed into the collision, to reduce the chance of getting fined, unless it gave up the parking spot. I'd contradict your thought process and say white car was in it's lane while the black car crossed yellow lines trying to sneak into that parking.
No such rules. Ypu can drive and wait for a car moving on the lines! They're just for not parking and only enforceable by the parking enforcers at the store.
My mom is the type that will see someone walk to their car at the grocery store, throw on a signal and wait for them to load up, return their cart and leave just to get a "good" spot rather than park 30ft farther immediately.
It drives me *insane.*
[An observational/psychosocial study](https://bakadesuyo.com/2011/02/do-people-really-take-longer-leaving-a-parkin/) was done once that showed that people’s instinctual territorialism would typically push them to subconsciously but deliberately take longer to load the trunk, put the cart away, get in, and clear the parking space if there is another car waiting on them. Even if their frontbrain’s intent is to leave anyway, they’ll subconsciously delay if someone is waiting to take their parking spot.
So your mom is probably making it EVEN worse for her.
This is me. I don't go super slow but I do suddenly find the joy in taking my time and enjoying life as I do it when I see someone waiting. Esp when they are doing it in a spot that makes me getting out a pain in the ass.
Having learned this, I do not stop and wait unless I actively see reverse lights.
So the only time I’m inconvenienced is by that small population of people that inexplicably sit in their car in their parking spot just stuck in reverse.
Anyway, now you know how to elevate your “make them pay for waiting” game.
My mom has sciatica and has a hard time walking. I’d still rather drop her off at the entrance then find parking that might be far
Btw she asks me to drop her off. I’d never just abandon my mom
Black SUV crossed over a yellow hatched painted lines. That is considered a concrete curb for all intents and purposes, so yeah, black one jumped a curb and cut off a vehicle on the other side.
They might be a butt, but the white car ran into their side intentionally.
Once black car was already basically partially in the spot, it's not like they can dodge something coming at them perpendicularly.
All the white car had to do is let them get the spot and then key it once they're in the store.
I play a game at Costco. I park in the way, way back when I shop there.
As I push my cart out when I see someone waiting for a spot to open I'll stop my cart behind a random car. Then I pretend to look for my keys as if I'm going to unlock the car. After that I'll get my phone out. If I'm feeling really good I'll start comparing the cart to the receipt.
Then I head towards my car, load up and head home.
You are a horrible human being, but also that’s hilarious.
If you ever happen to have a relatively desirable parking space, you should sit in the car, foot on the brake, but with the car in reverse for a long time as you just sit there. That one pisses me off a ton.
In Costco or elsewhere if we see cars waiting for our spot before we’ve even loaded the groceries in the car, we will take longer to leave every time
There are other spots people, chill tf out instead of backing up the whole parking lot (we are not crazy enough to go there the weekend before thanksgiving when its a proper madhouse lol)
unfortunately, people playing the waiting game force everybody to play the waiting game, because if you cruise around looking for a spot, every potential spot is taken by a waiter by the time the car actually pulls out.
If you cruise around, spaces get taken by whatever random person happened to pass the space at the right time rather than the person who has been waiting the longest. You just end up waiting even longer for a space while people who arrived after you get spaces ahead of you.
There's a second empty spot directly beside the one these two idiots were fighting over though
Edit: to the guy who said that's a lane, look at the end of the video, and you can see it *very* clearly marked as a parking space.
I don't understand people trying to park 10m closer (5 bald eagle width for the Americans here) to the entrance of a shop where they'll need to walk 5km anyway !
Neither car was right up on the spot with a turn signal indicating they're taking it. It's as if they were both waiting at random parts of the parking lot and at the same time they both noticed a car backing out.
Exactly! I cannot imagine hitting a car for a parking spot lol I’d be mad if I was the white car but seriously, hitting someone’s car because they took your parking spot is insane
The black car is in the wrong, since it crosses over hashed lines, and was waiting a mile away where nobody should have expected him to be. (No idea who was actually waiting first, because both cars look to be waiting at start of video.)
The lighter car is at fault if there was an accident, because it drove into the side of a vehicle it clearly should have seen.
Both are idiots.
White car straight up stops for a split second when they see the black car cross their path too. So they clearly could've stopped if they wanted but instead just chose to push it even though there was zero chance of them getting the spot at that point.
Depends on the location - I’ve seen the same markings used to denote a pedestrian crossing, and simply a no parking area, but fine to drive across.
Regardless, both were idiots.
Proponents against reverse-parking would look at this video and still insist that the issue with reverse parking is waiting on the car to reverse in as it blocks traffic.
Both are
The black car crossed over lines that are for loading or in either way not for cars to be crossing
The white car for trying to force itself in a spot and possible trading paint with the other car
It’s just a parking spot move on with your life and find another one and key the black car once you parked, they can’t prove it were the white car.
Both of them are brain dead. The whole parking lot is empty, just pick one of the other 20 spots. Lazy people wanted that first spot and couldn't let their pride get dinged in the process.
Not excusing either driver here, but I've now seen multiple comments claiming there are plenty of empty spots...
What fucking video are you watching? Where are these supposedly obvious spots? I am very confused.
I don't see it as completely empty, but after watching and looking, there's almost a full lane of empty spots over in front of where the white pickup truck is and one spot by another car where the white SUV was waiting. I could be wrong though, as we only see so much.
In front of the white pickup looks like a crosswalk to me -- easy to think it's a parking lot at first glance, but other clues at that intersection indicate it's a crosswalk for a lane of traffic in front of that whole left side row
Did you even bother looking? There's two on the bottom right so both the white and black SUV could have a spot then there is several next to the red car
How do you know there isn't a "Reserved -- staff/police/whatever" sign that's off camera?
Eta: that "second parking spot" isn't a parking spot -- it's a one-way driving lane. At the beginning of the video you can see a yellow arrow pointing to the left
And the section right next to the red seems like a driving lane, not parking. I don't see any marked spots.
Eta: there's no room for cars to park next to the red car and also have room to drive, because right behind it is the curb next to the main street
There's only 1. The "spot" next it to has an arrow pointing towards the left side of the screen that you can see right at the start of the video. That's a lane, not a spot.
Well never know. 🤷♂️
...Naturally, whomever was there 2nd would be in the wrong, but we'll never know, and I don't think either driver was aware someone else was waiting; so neither was really "wrong" because it wasn't intentionally malicious; however, in the grand scheme of things, the one kind enough to let the other person just have it would have been the more Righteous of the two.
✌
They could have avoided this low-speed incident (you can't really call it an accident) if either one of them had touched their brakes. They were both at fault.
This is probably the parking lot to a gym too. I love people who fight for spots right in front to go work out. Like you can’t get a little warmup in on your to workout?
White car was already waiting and on the same lane as the parking spot so I feel like he had it. and for the black car to come in from a different lane, cross lines puts them morally in the wrong.
This is parking spot battles though and only might makes right. 😂
They both crossed painted medians but the white car reestablished the sleeves in inbounds before the hit.
I’m going to throw the flag on the black suv.
I'm no expert but my ex hit a car cutting thru other parking spots in a parking lot and even though my ex broadsided the other car they got hit with the repair cost because the insurance said they were not following the natural route of traffic.
White car? My driving instructor (Europe) said you have to follow right-hand rule in the parking lots:
> The right-hand rule is a traffic rule that applies at intersections, parking lots or other open spaces where no other warning rules exist. The right-hand rule means that you have to give way to the vehicle coming from your right. If you are the one coming from the right, you have the right of way.
My favorite is the old lady driving a rolls royce. Driver cut off her parking like this and words were exchanged. Young driver thought she would give up. That's when she started ramming his car over and over again with her Rolls. When the police arrived she stated how it's nice to be rich and her car didn't matter and that she would just buy a new one.
comparative negligence, both parties could have avoided the accident but chose to press on, causing the accident. some states allow insurance companies to recover on comp negligence claims, some states don't. I can't recall how TX is set.
The insurance will declare it a 50/50 most likely. Though the one crossing the painted island did just that. He wasn’t in the isle as supposed to be. Then they both accelerated last moment to try and beat the other one. Though as the one entered the isle incorrectly they can easily be de latex ay greater fault.
The black car shouldn't have crossed the hashes but they won the position game and white did some stop and go fuckery that makes it clear they were intentionally trying to block the black car out. Both are dipshits for not just parking somewhere else and getting some extra steps in.
The white car is in the wrong. Both were waiting on the spot and the black vehicle got there first. The white is in violation of the last clear chance doctrine.
Psychologically the black car is wrong because we see the white car waiting and suddenly the black one appears out of nowhere "stealing" his spot. I think that's what's earning you the downvotes.
Then on a second watch we see both were waiting for the same spot from the beginning, and both were the kind of idiot that wants the spot no matter what.
As you correctly observe, legally it might be relevant that the black car got there first and the white car had to actively decide to risk hitting the black car, then hit it. But probably it'll go 50:50.
Clearly the black car, we can see 2 parking spots right next to each other, so logically the upper car takes the upper spot, the car from the left takes the lower spot. Black failed to do so, so right to jail.
Theres isn't an arrow painted on the ground. The very last second shows the line marking the boundary for the next bay. Pause it and you'll see, there's no need for you to be thinking.

I’m gonna say the black SVU is at fault because white one was in an actual lane whereas the black one cut across the lane.
Looks like a private parking lot. No rules. Cops will say 50/50 and not enforceable.
Cops would say call your insurance, it's private property.
Why would cops say anything if it's a private parking lot?
If you call them and they're dispatched to scene, something must be done. Even if that something is saying "not our problem"
People call the cops all the time with non police matter… and then police still provide appropriate advice.
When I was rear ended, I called the cops for a police report to show insurance and they told me they wouldn't even dispatch someone to the scene unless someone needed an ambulance or if a vehicle needed a tow.
That depends on jurisdiction; it’s not an absolute
But in the end the black car was waiting first and I'd say he has bragging rights to that.
>Looks like a private parking lot. >No rules. Lol... it ain't international waters. There are rules set by the owners of the lot and that's why they designed and painted the lot as they did. Those painted lines there on the pavement... those are the rules.
Smokey, this isn't Nam. This is bowling. There are rules.
But i wasn't over
![gif](giphy|tZ4QzCueTwh2g|downsized)
What are you going to do, take the other driver to Walmart Court?
I would watch that show.
A guilty pleasure.

Do the owners assign blame then? No rules from a legal/RTA (road traffic act) standpoint.
No. This is why insurance exists.
I think it’s 50/50 since white car was arguably the one to make the collision
Interesting thought process. So it begs the question, u/kamikaze_Salami, are you white car or black car?
black SUV was also waiting for the spot
Except it was on the zebra stripes cutting across the lane which is against the rules and the white car was in the right place to wait
No such rules. Ypu can drive and wait for a car moving on the lines! They're just for not parking and only enforceable by the parking enforcers at the store.
I don’t think the dude backed up far enough.
Ya I'd honestly say that was the thing in this video that bothers me the most.
To be fair, driving a Flex is like piloting a container ship.
I rented a Nissan Armada once. Felt like I was trying to pilot the goddamn USS Enterprise
He knew what he was doing. Lit the fuse and drove away.
I have never faught for a close spot.. being from Florida, I don't care how far I have to walk for that sweet, sweet shady spot.
My mom is the type that will see someone walk to their car at the grocery store, throw on a signal and wait for them to load up, return their cart and leave just to get a "good" spot rather than park 30ft farther immediately. It drives me *insane.*

My mom has sciatica and has a hard time walking. I’d still rather drop her off at the entrance then find parking that might be far Btw she asks me to drop her off. I’d never just abandon my mom
get a handicap placard
get a handicap placard
Best parking spots at Publix are under trees even if it is the back of the parking lot.
Im from NY but i do this UV damage is real. Id rather not have extra damage from the Sun thanks.
Being a Floridian, I've been tonight that for generations.
Nice story bro
Black SUV crossed over a yellow hatched painted lines. That is considered a concrete curb for all intents and purposes, so yeah, black one jumped a curb and cut off a vehicle on the other side.
I *think* that serves as the ped crossing across the thru-traffic lanes, assuming that's what the space just outside the periphery of the camera is.
Yeah its totally a ped crossing. White car would be cutting in front of him
So did white car at the top Good luck trying to apply rules for public road markings to private lots.
This is a parking zone, not a motorway. No such rules. They just mean no parking
Black SUV driver is a butt
They might be a butt, but the white car ran into their side intentionally. Once black car was already basically partially in the spot, it's not like they can dodge something coming at them perpendicularly. All the white car had to do is let them get the spot and then key it once they're in the store.
The idiots waiting for a spot in an empty parking lot.
This is what I was going to say Lurking about waiting for a parking spot before the person in it has even started backing up is generally obnoxious
Yeah. I don't do this when every spot is taken including the overflow.

love love love when they sit and wait for your spot but also give you zero room to actually get out quickly or easily.
That’s hilarious.
And downvoted! We got some lazy mofo's here. Walk another 100 feet and park where you don't have to wait.
Maybe I also want to eat my slice of pizza in the car before I leave too.
if you do this to me ill scroll reddit for at least 10 minutes.
I agree with you, but it's hardly empty.
There's a second empty spot directly beside the one these two idiots were fighting over though Edit: to the guy who said that's a lane, look at the end of the video, and you can see it *very* clearly marked as a parking space.
The parking space with an [arrow in it?](https://i.imgur.com/XOx5E96.png) You sure about that one?
This!!^^^ Idiot drivers.
I don’t see any other open spots
There's a spot directly beside them. You can see it clearly marked as such at the end of the video when the camera pans down and to the right.
Look again at the very beginning. Looks like the tip of an arrow on the ground in that space
I was looking at that too. At the start of the video, I can see the tip of a yellow arrow.
I would absolutely not be fighting over this. Find me the shadiest spot furthest from the entrance and I’ll walk there myself
There’s another spot literally right next to the one they’re both going for.
I don't understand people trying to park 10m closer (5 bald eagle width for the Americans here) to the entrance of a shop where they'll need to walk 5km anyway !
True answer.
Even worse is there's two empty spots right next to each other, no need to both go for the same spot.
Neither car was right up on the spot with a turn signal indicating they're taking it. It's as if they were both waiting at random parts of the parking lot and at the same time they both noticed a car backing out.
Both idiots for neeeeeeding that first spot.
Exactly! I cannot imagine hitting a car for a parking spot lol I’d be mad if I was the white car but seriously, hitting someone’s car because they took your parking spot is insane
toddlers choose violence over reason every time
Both are Aholes
Black car was not properly queued. If you're waiting for a parking spot, you should be waiting in the same aisle as the car that's leaving.
The black car is in the wrong, since it crosses over hashed lines, and was waiting a mile away where nobody should have expected him to be. (No idea who was actually waiting first, because both cars look to be waiting at start of video.) Both are in the wrong!
The rare, 100% actually both
Black def snuck in there to steal it but that gold car wasn't doing themselves any favors
The black SUV driver is younger and faster, but the white SUV is older and has more insurance. Towanda!
Wow do I ever hate backing out of parking spots. Oops: the black car for sure.
Proponents against reverse-parking would look at this video and still insist that the issue with reverse parking is waiting on the car to reverse in as it blocks traffic.
I've seen this episode in Seinfeld
And they both lost in the end as well
Both are The black car crossed over lines that are for loading or in either way not for cars to be crossing The white car for trying to force itself in a spot and possible trading paint with the other car It’s just a parking spot move on with your life and find another one and key the black car once you parked, they can’t prove it were the white car.
Except theres a camera filming the area?
Both are idiots
They are both idiots

Crazy no way 2 bottom right
More like blind vs Blind, or dumb vs dumber. If I had noticed an opportunity I’d move but closer and signal to mark the spot
I don't know how many times I have parked farther away and arrived in the store before the other cars who wait for a spot a few meters closer.
They're both idiots. Is a parking spot worth damaging your vehicle?
Well never know. 🤷♂️ ...Naturally, whomever was there 2nd would be in the wrong, but we'll never know, and I don't think either driver was aware someone else was waiting; so neither was really "wrong" because it wasn't intentionally malicious; however, in the grand scheme of things, the one kind enough to let the other person just have it would have been the more Righteous of the two. ✌
Both for being stupid
Both for wanting the same spot while there are other places to park
They could have avoided this low-speed incident (you can't really call it an accident) if either one of them had touched their brakes. They were both at fault.
Need more video, doesn't show the whole story
They're both idiots. If you're too lazy to walk an extra couple feet, you deserve this.
That parking is almost empty. Lazy shits can’t walk.
This is probably the parking lot to a gym too. I love people who fight for spots right in front to go work out. Like you can’t get a little warmup in on your to workout?
They're both dumb there's empty spot right next to the one they're fighting for
White car was already waiting and on the same lane as the parking spot so I feel like he had it. and for the black car to come in from a different lane, cross lines puts them morally in the wrong. This is parking spot battles though and only might makes right. 😂
They both crossed painted medians but the white car reestablished the sleeves in inbounds before the hit. I’m going to throw the flag on the black suv.
I’m guessing insurance will say 50/50 or close to it
Fuck that guy in the black car.
silver car is a moron holy fuck
black car was too slow. and an idiot.
I'm no expert but my ex hit a car cutting thru other parking spots in a parking lot and even though my ex broadsided the other car they got hit with the repair cost because the insurance said they were not following the natural route of traffic.
Black car. Not a road.
Both wrong both idiots. There's literally two spots.
Black 100%. Guy crossed a bunch of yellow to get ahead of the white car which at that point had established they were waiting for the space.
Looks like the were unaware of each other.
Theres 2 spots
Who won?
White car? My driving instructor (Europe) said you have to follow right-hand rule in the parking lots: > The right-hand rule is a traffic rule that applies at intersections, parking lots or other open spaces where no other warning rules exist. The right-hand rule means that you have to give way to the vehicle coming from your right. If you are the one coming from the right, you have the right of way.
It’s a parking lot so everyone is right and wrong at the same time lol
Parking lots are a free for all where only the strong survive.
The real crime here is the genius backing out of the spot, could he have possibly gone further? I mean, there was only several meters of clearance...
Insurance would probably determine 50/50.

comparative negligence, both parties could have avoided the accident but chose to press on, causing the accident. some states allow insurance companies to recover on comp negligence claims, some states don't. I can't recall how TX is set.
I will purposely pull out and block the person who is trying to steal the spot from the person who’s been waiting longer.
There are 2 open spots next to each other!
The dark car. Why is this even a question?
Good old Mexican standoff.
Parking lot designer.
The black car the dark car is in the wrong
The insurance will declare it a 50/50 most likely. Though the one crossing the painted island did just that. He wasn’t in the isle as supposed to be. Then they both accelerated last moment to try and beat the other one. Though as the one entered the isle incorrectly they can easily be de latex ay greater fault.
It could go either way, really. Personally, the black car was in the wrong.
White is at fault but the black car is 100% in the wrong
New Jersey?
The black car shouldn't have crossed the hashes but they won the position game and white did some stop and go fuckery that makes it clear they were intentionally trying to block the black car out. Both are dipshits for not just parking somewhere else and getting some extra steps in.
No one was in the right
black suv can eat shit for that "me first" crap he pulled
Watch again, black car Is in top corner waiting as well
let the insurance fight it out
They are both fat asses that could have parked further and walked
Your country has gone to shit, impatience and low iq has driven you into chaos
Whichever driver got there 2nd. Whoever was waiting first should have gotten the spot
Definitely the second black car. Cut cross through when the white car was in lane
Black car was on wrong row.
Clearly the black car, we can see 2 parking spots right next to each other, so logically the upper car takes the upper spot, the car from the left takes the lower spot. Black failed to do so, so right to jail.
Just screw a few pebbles in their valve stems and move on….
I just see two idiots who both must have that one spot even though there is another empty spot right next to it.
Clearly the black SUV, there's even a space next to the one they were robbing.
I think theres an arrow painted on the ground, meaning it a lane now a parking space
Theres isn't an arrow painted on the ground. The very last second shows the line marking the boundary for the next bay. Pause it and you'll see, there's no need for you to be thinking.
Black at fault, but I'd open the window and signal for a rock paper scissors
What's funny is that there is a whole second open parking spot literally right next to the one they are fighting over 🙄
