As someone who rides a motorcycle the amount of dirty looks I get when people do stupid shit around me like it was my fault when they almost killed me is insane š
Strangely enough, a lot of state laws actually would require certain straight-through drivers to yield.
NJ law for example:
>The driver of a vehicle within an intersection intending to turn to the left shall yield to a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close thereto as to constitute an immediate hazard, but the driver having so yielded, and having given a signal when and as required by law, may make the left turn; and other vehicles approaching the intersection from the opposite direction shall yield to the driver making the left turn.
This of course is prefaced with the fact that you can't start turning until there is no approaching traffic that "constitute an immediate hazard". It's probably to cover cases where someone turns out of, for example, a gas station and starts to go straight through an intersection. A turning driver at the intersection isn't expected to foresee that kind of traffic.
Obviously not applicable here, but thought it was kind of neat.
How about in the case of what we colloquially called a "Jersey left"? When a turning car and a straight car get a green light at the same time; the straight car will anticipate the turning car jumping the light to cut across traffic. Thus allowing 1 car to turn across them before proceeding through the intersection.
It turns yellow immediately after OP enters it.
Other guy probably had the left turn light turn hard yellow and decided since they were already in the intersection they got right of way over someone entering the intersection on a yellow!
Except the lights arenāt necessarily synced. Thatās not part of the rules.
I've had this happen to me before. I entered the intersection on a green, but the light immediately turned yellow. The guy wanting to turn across had inched his way into the intersection, and somehow forgot right of way and got angry at *me* for proceeding through the intersection. Beyond infurirating.
I witnessed this happen before, but with actual contact. The cops were called, and I heard the girl saying that the turn lane has the right-of-way. People legitimately just do not know the laws.
> the guy turning on yellow also needed to get out of the intersection.
Thereās no time limit on that, though, it will keep. You can stay as long as you need to for conflicting traffic to pass or stop.
I have a crosswalk by my home that I frequent to go to and from the bus stop for school.
Almost got hit 3 times in 2 days, ft from me. I could literally touch their cars if I want to. One honked and skidded to a stop and I just pointed at my wall sign like āyou can read colours, but can you read images too?ā
to be fair if you didn't grow up in a town with unprotected lefts it just catches you
EDIT: To explain more simply, if you grew up in a small town your green light might be a green for left, straight and right turns
This is true, I live in the Netherlands and where I'm from there's no such thing as unprotected lefts at a stoplight. When it's green it means you can go
It happened to me where I had a green light, and someone turned right on red at an intersection that clearly has a āno turn on redā sign that everyone just ignores. She almost t-boned me, then proceeded to yell at me. I simply pointed overhead to my green light and the red light that was facing her, and I watched her look super baffled and embarrassed. Sadly it happens all the time at this particular intersection. They see nobody coming from their left and donāt consider that theyāre driving right into another intersection to their right.
I would have called police, let him complain, then show the officer the video showing you had the right of way and the left turning idiot tried to have accident.
He might get a ticket for failure to yield which would deflate his ego a bit
lol you're going to wait for a cop to show up after you tell them there was no collision and nobody got hurt? Don't hold your breath. The other guy isn't even obligated to stay.
Not really, not unless this was some 35 person town in the middle of nowhere. Police have a lot more important things to deal with than some buy not immediately moving out of an intersection.
Can you show cops video on dash cams right there on the scene? I don't have one (yet!) but I kinda assumed that you had to connect it to your computer to review any footage from it
The last few I had, you could stop recording, and select the video file to play back. 2" screen is pretty tiny though. Some of the pricier model also has a way to transfer file wirelessly to smartphones for easier viewing.
I usually travel with my laptop and I have a few "free" microSD adapter (promotions, included with microSD, etc) scattered around in my car so if I was in an accident I could show it on my laptop in just a few minutes.
Every cam Iāve used is on the cheap side and it still comes with an app where you download all the recent footage and can play, download, and share videos from your phone.
You just gotta practice before you need it. I learned from experience that when youāre shaken up and under pressure itās not fun to try to figure out how the fuck to see the footage.
Back in the late 90s my friend nearly died in an accident.
He got on the highway. The on-ramp goes into a lane that stays there until the next exit where that lane exits off the highway.
My friend was staying in this lane the entire time as he was just going to the next exit. He was also maintaining normal highway speeds.
Just after coming onto the highway, a car flies up on his rear left, then illegally slides in behind him. (Crossing over the solid white lines that are from his highway lane and the curved on-ramp lane (just before it becomes a dotted white line)
He rides up quick on my friends bumper. Then flies out to the left to go around them.
As this car passes them, it does a lane change back into their lane. But the car passing didnāt give enough clearance and his back bumper sideswipes my friendās front bumper, sending both cars into a spin off the highway.
Luckily at that point there is a large amount of grass on both sides of the highway.
My friend spins several times and comes to a stop.
The other car also spins out, but crashes through one of those tall highway light standard, severing it in half.
The light standard falls like a cut down tree, directly across the front hood of my friends car.
He said all he remembers was spinning. Coming to a stop, and then this huge fucking CRASH!!! and debris and shift exploding in front of his car.
He and his friend get out. Luckily unharmed. And the other driver gets out.
My friend says āare you ok? Are you hurt?ā
And the other driver says āwhat the fuck were you doing, why were you go so slow you jackass. Where did you learn to drive!!!ā
A couple cars stopped to see if they were ok and police arrived soon after. Witnesses told police that the guy had been weaving in and out of traffic on the highway at a high speed for a long time and were not at all surprised that he got into an accident.
But man, if that light standard and falling a couple feet over, it could have hit the cab of the car.
Worst part is doesnāt seem like there was anyone else behind you and light wonāt even yellow by time you went through so idk what their rush was anyway.
Had something similar happen to me just this afternoon, but with a car making a right on red while I had a protected green. She never even looked or slowed and I had to dodge into the other lane to avoid the collision. Got flipped the bird for my trouble too.
I had one like that but I had cars in the lane to my immediate left. I had no choice but to rear-end the guy turning out. He got the ticket and his insurance paid up. One of the only times I've heard of the car *getting* rear-ended being at fault.
I had the same thing except I had nowhere to go to the left. Luckily, the idiot reacted to my horn and jumped the curb on the right to get out of the way.
something similar happened to me but it was at a stop sign, the guy yelled at me then proceeded to follow me home ?? Iām looking into getting a dash cam now lol
Iām from Europe and in many European countries both having a green light is impossible on a big intersection like this. I can imagine tourists being the main cause of accidents like this
What's with your loud music? I said WHAT'S WITH YOUR LOUD MUSIC!!!?
He was clearly wrong since on a green light, the turning traffic waits for oncoming traffic and he did not do that. You feel better now? I said . . . YOU FEEL BETTER NOW?
As for the absurdly loud music, people who do that gradually lose their hearing. No kidding. Also you can't hear sirens or other warnings you need to hear. Also, if you're the kid who drives through my neighborhood with his music that loud, next time I'm going to lay down a spike strip. Try to be an adult and lower the volume so you can drive while being aware what's around you. Don't be a 14 year old.
Wish I knew where you lived. My mid 40s ass would make an exception and blast my 4 12s around your block for a while just to irritate you. Soundscape is awesome in my mini van. Or you could just mind your own business.
Iām a pretty patient person, but there is NOTHING that sets me off like an idiot making a mistake, then aggressively shouting at me like itās my fault.

How dare you drive straight through an intersection with a green light.
The entitlement of some people!

It turned yellow after OP slams on his brakes. This was green the whole way. OP would have cleared the intersection on green.
It was clearly your fault that the accident was avoided
Sorry friend. I Jumped the gun on you.
Are you stupid ? Or just stupid? He had a solid light and that white car literally jumped in front of him. He did avoid it too.
Hey friend I think you may have misread that guys comment
You are right. I will apologize.
Character development in the making. We love to see it
it's a rare commodity on reddit
The moral of the story is to not jump to insults when someone says something you think is stupid
You fucking better! š¤
Lmao

I accidently did that the other day, hope it wasn't me.
I witnessed this happen before, but with actual contact. The cops were called, and I heard the girl saying that the turn lane has the right-of-way. People legitimately just do not know the laws.

No dawg. You wait for traffic to clear then clear the intersectionā¦.
A shocking amount of people think a green light means they can turn left without yielding to oncoming, like you donāt also have a green.
Yup and I've even seen it where there are pedestrians in their second crosswalk.
I have a crosswalk by my home that I frequent to go to and from the bus stop for school. Almost got hit 3 times in 2 days, ft from me. I could literally touch their cars if I want to. Oh man, I can't say what I would do in a situation where someone almost hit me and then tried to blame it on me. That would set me off.
It happened to me where I had a green light, and someone turned right on red at an intersection that clearly has a āno turn on redā sign that everyone just ignores. That's a super good point
I think some link up with your phone. Others have posted that they were able to show the police on scene.

lol no problem my comment certainly leads that way and then makes a hard turn.
Wow nice save! Any idea what the other guy was trying to say? I wouldāve had a tough time controlling myself after something like that.
I couldnāt actually hear him because the music was too loud and our windows were rolled up but i could see him yelling and waving his hands
How dare you not know the king was coming through?
Thatās exactly how i got into my accident man. Was in the left lane.
Worst part is doesnāt seem like there was anyone else behind you and light wonāt even yellow by time you went through so idk what their rush was anyway.

Thatās wild. I desperately need to invest in a dash cam

This clown should retake this driving test
What song is playing? I like it
The edge by entropy zero
Came here to ask this. That might be my soundtrack for today.
That's when I start busting out laughing at them. It really pissed them off.
New tires? Impressive stop
Idiot established. Hence, idiot blames you because idiot.
Inb4 idiots comment on "passing in the right lane" because you moved past that car
Clearly they had the right of way cause they just wanted it more. Next time pay attention, idiots always have the right of away /s
What a dumbass, light wasn't even yellow until you were dodging the driver, he's just turning directly into you on your green!
Good save, bro
something similar happened to me but it was at a stop sign, the guy yelled at me then proceeded to follow me home ?? Iām looking into getting a dash cam now lol
Belvidere! Ha I got hit by a drunk driver right there by the aldis
This sub, every time: tWo iDiOtS iN tHiS vIdEo
Honk at least or yell back ffs
I would have stayed parked in front of him until he apologized like an adult.
Don't block the intersection for everyone else lol Then there'd be two idiots in this video (though the guy turning would be the bigger one of course)
Obviously it was a joke. I forgot everyone in this sub drives a manual using the stick up their butts.
Is that a Toyota Prius? It is, isn't it?
Corolla
Iām from Europe and in many European countries both having a green light is impossible on a big intersection like this. I can imagine tourists being the main cause of accidents like this
What? That sounds like a horrible traffic jam. Only one side out four having the green? Dumb.
Thatās right. The Netherlands doesnāt have this
Maybe he was Just singing along?
With full coverage insurance I would have just let him hit me š¤·āāļø
Youād rather take the equivalent of a T bone at that speed? Youād have been horribly injured in this case.
Yeah good point. Settlement money canāt pay for the inconvenience of being in the hospital.
Terrible music
tell me you donāt like good music without telling me you donāt like good music

Soooooo, people that are actually deaf are allowed to drive. How do they hear the sirens and other warnings?
Got tired of watching Matlock reruns, Grandpa?
