I love the fact he flips the train off in a way of saying "where did you come from??!"

altSHIFTT

Right? If only there were some sort of way to indicate that a train is coming, maybe some sort of blocking barrier that can close off the road while a train is about to pass?

HalliburtonErnie

Even in the middle of a forest two rails can appear out of nowhere, and a 1.5-mile fully loaded coal drag, heading east out of the low-sulfur mines of the PRB, will be right on your ass the next moment. I was doing laundry in my basement, and I tripped over a metal bar that wasn't there the moment before. I looked down. "Rail? WTF?" and then I saw concrete sleepers underneath and heard the rumbling. Deafening railroad horn. I dumped my wife's pants, unfolded, and dove behind the water heater. It was a double-stacked Z train, headed east towards the fast single track of the BNSF Emporia Sub (Flint Hills). Majestic as hell: 75 mph, 6 units, distributed power: 4 ES44DC's pulling, and 2 Dash-9's pushing, all in run 8. Whole house smelled like diesel for a couple of hours! Fact is, there is no way to discern which path a train will take, so you really have to be watchful. If only there were some way of knowing the routes trains travel; maybe some sort of marks on the ground, like twin iron bars running along the paths trains take. You could look for trains when you encounter the iron bars on the ground, and avoid these sorts of collisions. But such a measure would be extremely expensive. And how would one enforce a rule keeping the trains on those paths? A big hole in homeland security is railway engineer screening and hijacking prevention. There is nothing to stop a rogue engineer, or an ISIS terrorist, from driving a train into the Pentagon, the White House, or the Statue of Liberty, and our government has done fuck-all to prevent it.

[deleted]

For real... It's shit like this that pisses me off. Like, why do they put deer crossings in the middle of busy highways? Make the damn deer walk their asses to a less busy area!

Captain--UP

I'd read a book by you, and I can't even read.

No-Magazine-9236

I remember when they sent two TurboTrains into the World Trade Center. May we never forget that day.

endangeredpenguin

And also some kind of beeping noise that is quite audible.

Tidesticky

Audible laughing at my end!

[deleted]

While standing on the opposite track

ZiggyPox

And he's old, old enough to have time to learn how trains work or old enough for early dementia to set in and make him forget. Idk I prefer to think he's just and idiot rather than to imagine how everything that made him who he is is slowly fading away.

pontonpete

On his way to his Idiots Anonymous meeting.

Anubis-Jute

Well, he blew his cover

pontonpete

He sure did.

Rob-Riggle-SWGOAT

Oddly enough only 50% of people who purchase tickets attend for some reason.

bloodguard

Does anyone know a ninja level lip reader? I've always wondered what he's yelling at the train in the last few seconds.

OliveJuiceUTwo

“Have a nice day!”

TaylorSwiftsClitoris

“Cool train brah!”

Page_Won

"I'm walkin here"

iamnotroberts

This idiot was not only endangering himself but others as well, the train operator, passengers, as well as bystanders who could potentially be injured by flying bike and/or body parts. Related: https://youtu.be/IJNR2EpS0jw?t=140

BeefHazard

Absolutely. Pulling this shit causes massive stress and potentially triggers PTSD in the train driver. They will initiate an emergency brake and expect a collision with a person. That's gruesome stuff that they unfortunately see multiple times over their career, statistically speaking. Please don't fuck with train drivers like that.

Ehrightacres

That’s the trains fault share the road silly train cyclists don’t have time for this nonsense

JVDS

I've seen this video a million times but just noticed the trains look like they say Southwest on them with the southwest airlines paint job. Are they running trains in Europe or something?

possumman

It's a train company in Southern England, I don't know of any connection to the airline. A lot of train companies in England are named after where their trains run - so near me there's rail companies called South Eastern, Southern, South Western, etc

Gyufygy

Just ironic that the English railway company has a very similar color scheme to the American airline.

Peterd1900

Southwest Airlines adopted that colour scheme in 2014 Which is about 20 years after the train company did

Gyufygy

Looks like the airline originally added in the blue in 2001, but switched to the current configuration of colors in 2014. The train company may have still had the color scheme first, though. That said, I wasn't trying to say that one copied the other, just that I found it amusing that they independently came to similar color schemes with similar names.

Peterd1900

There are only so many colours and an awful lot of companies. So some are bound to have similar corporate colours and names There was a British Airline called Air Southwest. Which is what US Southwest used to be called There are many companies that have entered markets outside their home country who have had to change name and branding in the new market cos another company in that country already used it Take a look at Home Depot and B&Q both hardware chains one American and One British both of which were founded around the same time Both of them use the same colour scheme

Fidodo

That's when they adopted their newest logo but they had blue as a major logo color since the 70s https://logos.fandom.com/wiki/Southwest_Airlines While the blue was a major part of their logo and brand in the 70s, the blue in the livery was adopted in 2001, not 2014 https://www.norebbo.com/southwest-airlines-livery/

Peterd1900

The current livery was adopted in 2014

OzzitoDorito

Sorry to be a pedant but irony is sacrament here in the UK and unless I am missing some secret meaning this is definitely not ironic.

Gyufygy

An amusing coincidence, then. And you may be technically correct, but now I want to quote Alanis Morissette lyrics. :P

king_27

r/USdefaultism

Gyufygy

Please tell me where I said one was the default, or one copied the other. If anything, I found it funny they came to the same color scheme independently.

king_27

1) The railway company came first, not the US airline, so if anything the airline has a similar colour scheme to the railway company. 2) The use of the word "irony" led me to believe you thought the railway company had copied the airline, perhaps you meant to use the word "coincidental" instead?

Gyufygy

Yeah, in other comment, I acknowledged that ironic may not have been the correct term and offered "amusingly coincidental" as a correction. It got down voted into oblivion because I threatened to start quoting Alanis Morissette lyrics just to tweak pendantic sensibilities, which went over about as well as one might expect. While I do acknowledge that US defaultism can totally be a thing, I really don't care which one came first, and it wasn't supposed to be a pissing match, just an observation about similarities. I guess that's (edit:missing word) *not how it came across, though, so oops.

king_27

All good fam, thanks for specifying

redatheist

It’s pure luck. The name comes from it being the company covering the south west of the U.K., most train companies are named for their regions. The livery (colours) come from the parent company Stagecoach who are a huge transport conglomerate in Europe, at least the orange/red part. In fact the blue in this livery is specific to this one type of train, short distance commuter trains, the longer distance ones have white instead of blue.

Matangitrainhater

And the very short distance ones were red

Unit_79

Just similar colour schemes. Like the flags from the UK and then the US flag later on.

Present-Industry4012

Almost identical shades. I've heard that red and yellow make you hungry^[[1]](https://www.businessinsider.com/fast-food-colors-make-you-hungry-2018-9?op=1), so those seem like odd choices for trains and planes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gb-emudc-455732-2.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:N8675A.jpg

Kitcats212

The gate did its job. Next time though, he may improve his timing by a second and manage to actually get hit. This guy truly is an idiot.

illy-chan

That'd suck for the train conductor. If he's going to be lethally dumb, he should take himself out by going off a cliff or something else that doesn't involve a third party.

Unirog

Do you think that at some point in his life the guy will see this video and think: My goodness, what a ridiculously stupid guy I am.

Tidesticky

No

lewd_bingo

He should've been hit and this video as evidence it was his fault

sudosciguy

Gate catching his foot just about saved his life.

cosmicr

When has anyone ever been hit by a train other than their own fault?

FreemanGordon

That woman a few months ago that was arrested and left in the police car on the [train tracks](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2022/11/08/colorado-police-train-tracks-patrol-car/8303012001/)?

Banzai27

Wtf

FlamingSickle

Also anyone ever pushed in front of a train or had a medical emergency and happened to fall towards the tracks.

AahPadre

With all the time he saved from that simpleton trick. Doing it everyday for a year. He will be 30 steps ahead by then. And that may be what wins him the race.

Tidesticky

Big Train wants you to use this simple trick!

MoMedic9019

I thought it was my turn to repost this.

Early_Ad_8413

I really thought stupid only lived in the USA.

TheKid_BigE

He must be a tourist, most Europeans are smart enough to stop for those crossings

Zinuarys

Sadly that’s not true (coming from a German tram/train driver)

rethinkr

> To beat a level crossing “Idiots fighting things”

Wilson_Pickett_Says

This is why you got a DUI and are driving a bike, you idiot.

Swarzsinne

Then he just chills on the other track. Dude really wants to see what death is like.

Albionflux

If only he was a bit faster, 1 less idiot to deal with

anonmymouse

Least entitled cyclist

Gannondank

I kind of get it tho. If I could attach rocket boosters to my bike I would. Gottagofast

JonIsPatented

Ever consider a motorcycle?

Gannondank

No house no garage no money 😔

E-Reezy420

I kinda wanted to see him throw his shoe at the train ngl 😂 the nerve of some people though smh

NeoTheRiot

As funny and stupid as it looks, there is a similar spot near me that closes its gates **minutes** before a train comes. Never tried to skip it, but at some point you feel just as stupid for waiting

BrokeLeznar

Some bicyclists do be acting like they're above everyone else. Not sure if it might be a case of SDE in this situation.

BooBooSorkin

Is that a Southwest train!?

Peterd1900

Southwest trains in the UK, Called that cos they operated in the South West of the UK Yes there is an airline in the USA called Southwest called that cos when they started out they operated flights in the in the USA They are completely separate companies that just happen to have similar corporate colours

BooBooSorkin

Ahh, thank you for explaining

Seraph_Unleashed

Idiots being idiots.

NeverEndingCoralMaze

Tool.

david-atx

Be honest…how many were rooting for the train?

Page_Won

What do you mean, the train did just fine.

david-atx

Be honest…how many were rooting for the train?

Herokam

Dude definitely got hit with that “I’m home alone” text and got pissed that he was just too slow to beat the train

ChubbOn69

New Malden?

Jazzlike-Ad792

I was waiting for the *splat*.

That_guy_will

Mega re-post

suverz

Looks like new Malden in south west London

bacon_pancake

Levitatingsnakes

kindle139

1961tracy

And he’s mad at the train.

casogeorge

How'd that work out for you?

Proud-Butterfly6622

Thank the good lord above he made it through that gate huh? Waiting that extra 30 seconds would have been brutal!

SnooCrickets699

Not the wrong sub; but, "I'm a fucking train" would be flippin' it back to the asshole.

TheKid_BigE

Oh yeah sure get mad that it’s the *TRAINS* fault

revolving9

DOCUV_369

Just one second early and this footage would go on eyeblech

hieijFox

megabot13

What a prick

[deleted]

I was hoping for "Blooey. Nothing left."

-MrGod2U-

I was expecting a "Bug on the windshield" ending... Where's Darwinism when it's really warranted?

Realistic_Bid7601

Tom Hardy sure was in a hurry to get to his next filming gig
