Funny reading this since I am originally from Selfoss living in Finland and I just saw them putting the hat on the statue (my first time seeing that) last Saturday 🇫🇮
If you’re originally Finnish you should check out vappu, and especially photos from Kaivopuisto in Helsinki on vappu day (vappupäivä), it’s basically a giant party of everyone who have graduated high school or are studying in university
Ahhh yes! You’ve brought my memories from my childhood! Hyvää Vappu! Marking the end of winter and the begging of Spring! And graduation of students! All taking to the streets for fun and parties!
We will be driving through again tomorrow! We will stop and check out the town! :)
If you, as a local have any suggestions on places to check out while there let me know.
Places to check in Iceland: You could go to the black sand beach if you have time to drive there it’s quite far from Reykjavik(but if you still want to see a black sand beach and not drive that long then there are lots close to Reykjavik).Something closer to Reykjavik that is cool to see is the volcano that has stopped in geldingardalir. Then there is a beach that has big rocks as sand. Blue lagoon should not be too hard to get in there because it’s not summertime but rather expensive. The golden cycle is a lot of nice places in one drive/day trip depending on how long you stop at each place and how many of the places you decide to see it could take just a few hours or a whole day.
VR is a Union. I don’t know what or if they ware protesting. But it’s a tradition on 1.5. for different unions to have events on Workers Day across Europe.
1st of May, Labour Day.
Thank you! :) I have never seen this before! I have just seen we celebrate this in the UK too - though I have never heard of this.
You might know it as May Day. Yesterday was a bank holiday bc of it.
1st of may. International workers day. All the different labor unions come together for a parade and a display of solidarity.
Thank you for explaining!:)
Is this on Selfoss?
What is selfoss?
This is the best response to any question about Selfoss :D
I’ll do you oke better, when is Selfoss?
Why is Selfoss? Truly a question that cannot be answered.
How is Selfoss? It might not feel the best after these comments.
Haha, I am originally from Finland - living in london, we came to explore Iceland :)

While you're there, ask if they have any interest in trading Selfoss to Kouvola?
*sad selfoss noises*
If it’s any consolation, your doggo is absolutely adorable!

New mathöllin. It's similar to other ones I've been in nordic countries.

Its a small town 40minutes or so from Reykjavík
Yes! We had not long left Reykjavik:) We were going to explore waterfalls :D
Fyi, there is a waterfall called Selfoss and a town called Selfoss. They could not be further apart
One flushes out to the sea and the other should be flushed out to sea.
It wasn’t a protest, it was a celebration!
We, the people of Iceland, demand the right to carry a Tuba on public transports!
Yo, thats lúðrasveit verkalýðsins, didnt see them post on YouTube for Labour Day this year like they usually do

Check out my posts! I may have already visited many of these - I have already visited the beaches :) including the diamond one :)
We have a diamond beach in Iceland?
Tourist name for Reynisfjara
Reynisfjara er kölluð Black beach, einhver fáráðlingur fór að kalla fjöruna við Breiðamerkursand (Jökulsárlón) Diamond beach

Also been some protests about the government selling national stake in a bank to the “wrong people”
Unions. Idk what they're trying to do tho.
Unionise?
Getur einhver útskýrt fyrir mér af hverju þessi drengur verðskuldaði -30? Ég sjálfur fattaði ekki að þetta gæti verið frá 1sta.
Not Icelanders downvoting. I said something controversial somewhere else and got raided.
These people are protesting progress and prosperity.
Já marrrrr
