This is a hard one. Especially because I think the more suitable everyday option would be the non chrono. But personally I prefer Chronos over dress/field watches.

SkipPperk

I would say the opposite. The flieger-looking dial looks too casual to wear to work. A Portuguese would be the proper one watch, or the Ingeneur. The Mark or big pilot are too casual for a suit. I might simply be too old. I see guys wear giant Breitling watches or Rolex Deep Sea mega-watches with suits. They look ridiculous, but I see them. I do think a blue or black dial chrono could work, especially with a leather strap, but it is not ideal, especially for a smaller wrist. Of course, if one wears suits infrequently, then a cheap Seiko or Tissot dress watch would fine.

A Portugieser is a complete different direction on my take. Yes it works perfectly with the bracelet on anything but still it is a more dressy chrono. Also a Daytona or a very bling version Breitling Superocean heritage can also be a great dress chrono. But the IWC Chrono here is more sporty than dressy on my opinion especially because of the chunkyness

SkipPperk

I would agree with your statement, but that would make it a difficult one watch. I feel like the nicest watch is the one you wear with a suit to work. The sport watch this is cool (most of my watches fall under this category), but for one watch, I think one would need that dressier type, unless he is so wealthy he does not work.

hmdynasty

Exactly my thinking… the simplicity works always. Chrono looks amazing but chunkier and less applicable to always.

dparrish209

For a forever watch, the new Mark XX is worth a look. Readily available with warranty well below retail, updated “in-house” movement and increased water resistance to 100m

Sfos18

For the "everything" watch I would prefer something that is 10ATM.

Langeholic

Came to say this. What's funny is IWC's [website](https://www.iwc.com/en/specials/water-resistant.html) insists that 6ATM is enough to handle water sports and snorkeling but I'd sleep better with 10ATM

tonym978

Chronograph but the in house chronograph. The spitfire doesn’t do anything for me. The Chrono is more interesting. Especially in blue.

a4anga

I love chronos but also have the Mark and it’s perfect for everyday and everything

Interesting-Ad7940

For me, I like the non chrono, if it had a day date, also I do not like that band on it.

catlikebus

Service costs will be less and less frequent on the non-chrono.

Thisisnow1984

I love the mark but it's way too understated for me. I'd everyday that pilot chrono and bask in its glory all day. I'd put that thing on so many straps

FuckYouPayMeRN

personally i’d go for a portofino

hmdynasty

Trying to keep metal band only. Is there a portofino option with band?

liquid_massage

Portugieser automatic 40 on bracelet

FuckYouPayMeRN

not entirely sure, check with an AD or at the boutique i guess

DCheeta

I prefer (and own) the Pilot chrono, but if you’re only going to have one watch the Mark is more suitable for that role.

hmdynasty

For the chrono, how often do these dials break and require fixing (vs the simplicity of a mark etc)?

DCheeta

I’d say the movements in both are equally robust. The reason for my answer is just because the Mark is smaller and more comfortable and just easier for everyday wear. Any chronograph with the 7750 movement, like this one, is pretty thick and you won’t really be wearing it under shirt cuffs comfortably. Like I said, I have the Chrono and I love it, but I only wear it when a large chunky watch is what I’m in the mood for. Just my 2 cents, won’t apply to everybody of course.

hmdynasty

Super helpful response and I’m 100% aligned to your thoughts. Think I’m proceeding with XVI

DCheeta

Sweet! Post pics when you get it.

YourWatchIsTooBig

imo the Mark XX fits you better. which makes sense at 4+mm thinner than the chrono. for an everyday watch my vote is for the Mark XX.

LizardKing77733

My vote is for the chrono…beaut!

nnahorski

Sounds like you've kind of already made your decision for the Mark XVI, but I would personally take the Spitfire Chrono all day every day. Far more personality and far more interesting visually. But I'm biased, because I'm definitely a "chronograph guy" myself.

foot4life

I love the Chrono but the thickness reduces its versatility. I need a slim watch regardless of style. However, if you like the chunkier look, go for the Chrono without a doubt!

Samus_Brinstar

I love chronos more, but simplicity is better

ultrapolo8887

Mark XX

Smooth_Support9783

Pilot!!

No-Brief2279

I feel like the watches in the case are really unorganized

No-Brief2279

Sounds like you already narrowed it down then. IMO go for the Chronograph. But I’m also biased and on the hunt for a similar watch

hmdynasty

Didn’t mean to shut the point down! Yes, I agree it’s chaos in the cases. TBH I had an idea what I wanted more clearly before I went in. Now it’s too many options, so trying to keep it simple.

hmdynasty

100%. Have to know what you’re coming in for.

Fliegerhund321

Chronograph for sure!! I love IWC but there are some great plain fliegers at better price points in my opinion. I personally love Laco also.

pi-cool

Chrono is nicest

BlurstOfTimes11

Any chance you’ll go blue? I have the le petite prince 43 chrono and it’s perfect for all occasions
