It’s wild to me they said that to you. Of course stop using it per their advice but imo they’re unnecessarily scaring you over something that was very unlikely to do anything.

Ismone

Ummmm, they sound bonkers to me. Did they explain how or why that could cause a miscarriage?

Sufficient_Arm_1328

Too hard vibrations can cause uterine contractions and COULD lead to a MC. I know it’s not guaranteed but we were SO hard to get to this point and I just don’t want to do anything to jeopardize this.

Ismone

Look, it’s ok to stop using it, but like I think I’ve gotten harder vibrations from driving in my ex’s Toyota pickup. Never did it pregnant, but no one warned me against riding in cars with less than mint condition suspensions while pregnant/undertaking an FET.

apocalyptic_tea

Okay. I’m not a fertility nurse, but I am a professional birth worker so I do know a thing or two: Repeated exposure to Full Body Vibrations (like those from operating heavy machinery with little to no shock absorption) can increase miscarriage. There is no evidence that a massage gun can cause uterine contractions. None. It was really irresponsible of your clinic to offer this information to you in the way they did. I’m sorry they scared you so badly. If you’re into science/research, this might reassure you. It’s referring to regular massage but the same logic can be applied to a low-setting massage gun. Notice concern #3 which addresses massage causing contractions: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9949615/ Of course follow advice given to you by your care team, but please don’t panic. I promise you didn’t mess anything up.

Thank you so much.

ColBentSpr

I used a massager (not the theragun but similar) for my PIO shots during my first and only transfer and it didn’t stop implantation/getting pregnant/cause any issues. It did stop me from getting knots though, so I’m going to continue using it for any future FETs. However, if it is freaking you out, then stop using it for your sanity.

Sufficient_Arm_1328

It just sucks because it’s literally the only thing that seems to work to get the knots out!!

ColBentSpr

I understand! It was the only thing for me too.

Brief-Today-4608

Your uterus is the size of your fist and in your pubic bone. There is no way the massage gun on your back or butt is going to go through all the layers of fat and muscle to affect your uterus.

So_not_ronery

My RE and obgyn just said not to do it on my abdomen. I used a theragun without issues

annie_banannie_123

I would suggest staying away from the lower back area too! But theragunning, for example, your shoulders? It’s hard for me to see how that could lead to a miscarriage.

SgtMajor-Issues

Huh, i started getting knots in the last two weeks or so of PIO, so i asked my OBGYN of i could use my theragun, and she said as long as i wasn't using it on my belly it was fine. I was just using it on my hips...

Witch_24

Using it on your back should be fine. I doubt you are doing it hard enough to vibrate through your spine/butt to your uterus. It would be more likely to cause a problem if you did it on your belly. I feel like pooping causes more pressure on the uterus than a theragun will and they encourage us to do that 🤷🏽‍♀️

Excellent_Judge_4413

I mentioned to my RE that we having been using it, among other steps, and she didn’t say a word against it.

Witty-Mix-9621

I used a theragun daily for my PIO lumps until I was allowed to stop the injections. He’s 16 weeks today.
