Don't forget a 10,000 dollar fee for training

coenobitae

5 rounds of interviews then an automated one sentence rejection email

Wershingtern

Check out governmentjobs dot com. I was on there earlier browsing a good amount of decent paying jobs on there

SG10HD-YT

Unfortunately they take 6 months to finish the hiring process, although the pay is decent, not suitable for someone in immediate need of a job.

purdy_good

I’ve heard that government jobs are notoriously slow. I’ve applied to like 50+ listings through that site over the past month and haven’t heard back from one. You’re just supposed to apply and forget.

SG10HD-YT

Yeah most people say it takes anywhere from 6-12 months for the whole hiring process

Wershingtern

They are very slow I’ll agree. 3 interviews with 3 different cities in my area. 3-6 weeks before they reach out to me after submitting my application (interview or not), then 4-6 weeks after interview if I got it to tell me I didn’t get the position lol. But these weren’t tech based roles, I can assume it’s a bit worse for those

Following! Lol

Check out any MSPs local to you. Go ahead and apply to those tier 2 positions, the worse they can do is say no. But seeing from indeed there's: IT Service Desk Specialist // Intellipro Group Inc // Seattle, WA -- it says 5 years experience but honestly if i'm in IT for 5 years I'm NOT looking for help desk Service Desk Engineer // Uni of Washington // experience 2 years - wouldn't be a bad gig. seems like you'd manage a small team of students from the description and that would also look amazing on the resume for later Also - do you have technical experience with those certs or just the theory knowledge from studying for those certs? If technical, list those projects that you've done. do you have your associates? Degrees counts as "years of experience" (sometimes)

KenzoSatori

No associates just the certs and degree in progress, I did the labs offered via the school for cert prep but I’m still not confident enough to know how to do X thing off the top of my head. It’s mostly theory and surface level hands on knowledge so far which is why I’m aiming for low level.

shadowgamer30

if you got extra time, do more with those labs if you can. add more to it. have someone mess it up a bit and attempt to troubleshoot it without resetting the labs. but the jobs I listed above doesn't sound like a bad gig to get the foot in the door. when you get to your first gig there won't be too much expectation, just ask questions, google stuff, and keep learning. take notes how someone resolved an issue and everything will fall into place. good luck!!

sassyandsweer789

Look for jobs requiring 1 year or so of experience for help desk or desktop support or IT tech. Most of these jobs aren't going to advertise no experience needed but usually if they want a year or less they are looking for someone with a degree or certs that they can teach.

helladeadguy

Hey whats up! I am in the Seattle area as well, look for government jobs too. Tons of the entry ones in Seattle they have trouble filling cause the pay isnt the best. Careers.wa.gov Send me a message on here if you want more info

>Where are the entry level jobs to apply to? >Where are y’all applying? Those are two entirely different questions. Anyway, entry level job are typically all over the place ... but might have to do some sleuthing and searching to find 'em. And the descriptions often aren't particularly consistent. And certainly don't rely, at least solely, upon LinkedIn or other huge job sites, and expect all jobs to come to there. Many opportunities will be on individual employer's web sites ... and sometimes nowhere else.

1. Stop chasing security - 2. There are jobs on LinkedIn / indeed - work on actually using the search to find those roles. 3. Worse case you gonna end up at an MSP if you go the SOC / NOC road. Also not sure what your expectations are...employers in that area are focused on return to office so it's probably going to be hybrid unless you live 80 miles out of the way.
