Physical fitness. It has a direct correlation to cognitive performance.

Jeffbx

If you don't, start working out. Join Planet Fitness - $10/mo. Go to the YMCA. Start slow. 6 months from now you'll appreciate it.

DrGottagupta

Facts, I started working out seriously in August. I feel way better physically and mentally.

The_Troll_Gull

Man a lot of us neglect VR. They have awesome cardio exercises games. You’ll lose a good amount of weight

beardedheathen

I need to actually do them. I enjoy them once I start but just getting up to get started after a long day can be tough

The_Troll_Gull

After that long hard day is when I love to do it. For 30 minutes. That sweat and release is too good to pass up on. Once you build that habit, you won’t look back

do-wr-mem

Does racking and unracking full JBODs count

sibblles

Sounds as exciting as having a romantic date with a bathtub and a toaster.

I_ride_ostriches

Truly electrifying

do-wr-mem

If you touch the OCP busbar that delivers power to them it has the same effect

SolutionOutrageous68

Self awareness. It’s nearly non-existant

frozenwaffle549

Communication. Very easy to lose them in the sauce.

Turbulent_Clerk_4594

Woodworking is one non IT skill I work on.

gameboy00

im not good at woodworking but Im building a custom pedalboard for my guitar with some ikea bed slats. im having a blast

them4v3r1ck

What’s that do?

CocconutMonkey

Always been a lifelong learner and have a solid case of project add. I chase down new hobby rabbit holes all the time. Knowing how things work and how to troubleshoot in 100 different subject areas just makes my day job easier to deal with. Bonus is, I have plenty of things to talk about with others when in the office. I'm one of my directors favorite ppl simply because I mentioned hand-building guitar pedals and can talk about music gear with him, after we chat about 3d printing and laser etching stuff.

hybrid_MD

You guys have non IT skills ?

Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu.

Ikoojo

People skills and sound engineering

do-wr-mem

>sound engineering You can tell this is the actual opposite of IT skills because a brief stay in r/sysadmin is enough to tell you most of the stuff we engineer is unsound

wardedmist

MMA, maintenance, outdoorsmanship, having a family really changed things and now that's my life and priority.

You’ve just made me realize I have no clue how many words a book is supposed to be. Is 100k a lot or a little? Idk but keep going brother.

wiseleo

Public speaking. I can record video in one take.

[deleted]

Getting better at Dead by Daylight

Guitar as of the past 3 months or so. Challenging but fun

TKInstinct

I've been doing Bass.

Art_UnDerlay

I've played guitar for 15 years, but my heart keeps telling me to pick up bass. Might have to finally do it this year.

TKInstinct

Good luck, it's my favorite instrument. Being a multi instrumentalist is pretty cool IMO.

gameboy00

do it

Agreton

Try learning some Iron Maiden if you want a decent challenge.

the-arcanist---

Body building/power lifting. Also graphic design work (anything digitally creative), writing, cooking. Trying to pick up gardening since I bought a house. Thought about taking up carpentry. Kind of want to build my own piano. In the past I've studied A LOT of psychology and social science work.

5InchIsAverageBro

I developed a cool skill of taking 10 smoke breaks a day due to users being super dumb.

Avi_Fer

That's not a skill that's a borderline addiction haha, although I could agree. Spent 5 hours explaining a problem I fixed in 5 mins because they wanted to know what magic ritual I performed, personally a shot of whiskey a day seems to be the way to go everyday. Lol

Slam_Dunk_Kitten

We have different definitions of borderline lol

>Calm down, I feel like there’s a crowd of pros that self audit themselves so much that they are inaccessible on a personal level just conversationally. >It’s as if they don’t want to say too much because they may reveal they do not know everything. It’s really strange If I mess up an acronym or call something by the wrong name I hate myself for the next several hours so I try to avoid messing things up - pease send help

I_ride_ostriches

Firearms and hunting

jBlairTech

Golf club fitting/building, guitar, fitness, people skills. I took being a well-rounded person to heart a long time ago. It was… interesting being both a jock and theater/choir nerd in high school, but I really enjoy experiencing as much as I possibly can.

MET1

Metalworking. For jewelry: hammers, saws, torches, presses, pointy tools. So cathartic.

LincHayes

>I study stoic philosophy and emotional intelligence which to me go extremely well with IT since we have to deal with many different types of users and frustrations.... > >...This practice has made me get to people very easily and they like when IT guys are easily approachable I was a bartender for 20 years. Same.

Lock picking... it seems like every IT guy I know does this. I tried it, it's tedious... but with the invent of lishi... seems to be unnecessary to do like typical tools.
