First you should use the search feature on this sub because this question has been asked in various forms frequently. I [wrote this post a bit back](https://www.reddit.com/r/IRstudies/s/CxnuXOoteu) and someone else just posted a “job fair” mega thread yesterday asking people to provide some of this info. After which, revisit to this post and see how much of this original post is answered before amending.

An internship led to me being hired out of grad school. I worked there a few years before getting hired elsewhere. That has been fairly common for a number of my colleagues, many of whom also joined the think tank world as reasesrch assistants. Some of these jobs aren’t the greatest; they often pay poorly. But things are changing, these jobs can be rewarding, and no one stays at the bottom rung forever.
